Aposto at the Scala House

If you’re looking for an elegant date night this is the place to be. Reservations in advance is a must. Cozy quarters inside an old mansion. Great atmosphere paired with great friendly service. The food and drinks are top tier and bring the price tag along. Menu changes monthly I believe and there was not 1 thing on the menu when we went.

We had a fantastic time here! The gnocchi was absolutely amazing. The only time I’ve had better gnocchi was in Rome, Italy! We loved the cavatelli too. Also great wine selection. We are huge foodies and were completely impressed by the service and quality. Will definitely be returning. Perfect date night spot. Thank you!!

If you want an exceptional dining experience this is the place to go! Our server made excellent suggestions for what dishes to try and what wines to pair with them. It was all delicious and we had a wonderful evening!

Sat at a little 2 seater table by a window overlooking the street. There was a decent amount of street parking available. Server was friendly and attentive and even added a candle to my dessert after overhearing it was my birthday.

We tried quite a few items while we were. Of the ones we tried, I'd recommend the fried polenta appetizer, zuppa toscana soup appetizer, cavatelli in a sausage red sauce, seafood risotto, and brown butter ice cream. The only dish I would not recommend is the orange pistachio creme brulee. The flavors did not mesh well and it was a bit disorienting to have so many whole pistachios baked into the dish.

If you've been craving an elevated, intimate dining experience you need look no further. Our first visit to Aposto will certainly not be our last... Everything from the service (attentive but very unobtrusive) to the cocktails were top notch and then we tried the food. Wow! Every bite was was worth savoring, we were even fortunate enough to meet Chef Cole during the main course. Undoubtedly one of our favorite meals together to date; we're already planning our next visit!

This restaurant was outstanding.
The pork, the gnocchi, the brussel sprouts, the pizza - simply delectable.

And the mint chocolate chip ice cream? Wow, so so good. And the chocolate peanut butter torte, excellent.

Our server was attentive but did not hover or constantly interrupt - she was just really lovely!

What a beautiful place with amazing wine and food. We had the pumpkin gnocchi, pork bucco and risotto. Delicious. Plus what a gorgeous photo I took!!

Our dinner was delicious, it is clear to taste and see the quality and thought put into each dish by the Chefs. Pro Tip: If you can, sit on the porch for dinner. We had a great time celebrating our anniversary at Aposto!

Absolutely fantastic experience for dinner at Aposto - some of the best Italian food we have had in awhile. Cocktails were well made, and all the entrees were delicious. We split three entrees, all were delicious - the bone marrow linguini, gnocchi with crab, and the pork osso buco. Service was attentive and friendly. Creme brûlée was very good for dessert as well. Will definitely plan to return.

Managed to score a last minute reservation at Aposto for our anniversary dinner. It was a beautiful night so we sat out on the patio. Great ambiance both inside and outside. Our server was very attentive and knew a lot about our dishes and the wine. She made a few good recommendations too.

For dinner, I had the mussels and the pizza fritta. The pizza fritta had a delicious combo of creamy goat cheese and savory garlic jam that was a real treat. The mussels were perfectly cooked and served in a delightful white wine sauce. My boyfriend had the bone marrow pasta which is now one of my favorite pastas of all time. Very unique, as you scrape the bone marrow out and into the pasta, the caramelized shallots adding an unexpected bite that brings the whole dish together.

I would recommend Aposto to anyone looking for a date night restaurant or to annoy one that is simply looking for a great meal.

Absolutely beautiful atmosphere. The service was prompt & friendly. All of the dishes were perfectly balanced with both delicate & bold flavors. A fantastic experience! I would absolutely go again to see what other wonderful menu items they create.

Great service and the food was really good. We had the charcuterie to start which had a great variety.
The risotto was amazing and the pumpkin gnocchi was also amazing and tasted like pumpkin French toast, but much tastier.

We absolutely loved Aposto! The Scala House is lovely and we love the Sherman Hill area. Being in a historic home made the entire evening feel cozy and the food was fantastic. My partner and I shared the charcuterie board, cavatappi (all house made pasta), goat cheese fritta, and lemon cake. We had plenty of leftovers to take home and really appreciated the great service. Their menu is seasonal so we can’t wait to go back when they change their menu for a new season!

Unreal experience every single time. The food, the service, and the atmosphere are unbeatable. I never leave reviews anywhere ever, but this place deserves every 5 star it gets. Thanks Joseph :)

Went for restsursnt week and had a great experience! We weren't sure which wine to get so the waitress let us try a couple to help decide. Had one of the best ceasar dressings I've ever tasted. Both our entres were on point, especially the home made cavatelli noodles. Desert and coffee were also very good! I'll be going back soon to try out their full menu!

Great ambiance of an old, historic home. Delicious Italian food, with seasonal ingredients. Service was first class as well.

Went here for dinner and thoroughly enjoyed every bit. Welcoming and gracious service, excellent menu and warm cozy setting. The charcuterie board to start was a great selection and the house paté on point, scrumptious. The main Pork Osso Bucco with polenta and porcini tomato ragu was fantastic. Great flavors and tender falling right off the bone. To finish the carrot cake topped off a wonderful dining experience. Looking forward to coming back next time I'm in Des Moines.

Went to Aposto for our first wedding anniversary and it was pure perfection! The food was unreal. The service was amazing! We ordered the mussels for an app and we are still thinking about how good those were! Could not recommend this place enough!

When they were cafe Discala, Tony helped me propose to my wife! I was able to go there again for my 10yr anniversary. It is always amazing food.

Loved the atmosphere and charming and knowledgeable waiter. And the food was lovely thank you gor foing your best everyday, it truely shows!
