The Roost is a good breakfast place. BUSY, very busy. For two people on a Saturday morning around 10 am, we waited 40 minutes. Which is pretty normal I would think.
We did hear the hostess tell larger parties that it could be upwards of an hour, maybe 2 hours of a wait. The front area can make you feel like a sardines in a can with it being so packed.

I suggest if you are going downtown for any particular reason aside from breakfast, go get your name on the wait list and they can text you when a table is ready; and you can go do your errands or shopping.

The food is reasonably priced for downtown Lawrence. The coffee is good. The sausage is extremely delicious, probably some of the best I've had. The rosemary breakfast potatoes are also quite yummy.

The folks working there are kind, and attentive. They're rather efficient at getting everything cleaned up, and ready for the next group, as well as getting food and drink to you.

Came for brunch and had the Rooster with potato cakes and a half order of biscuits and gravy. Sausage patty was very flavorful and delicious, as was their thick cut bacon. Biscuits and gravy were some of the best I've ever had! Their gravy is so rich and flavorful. Biscuit was good and crumbly, so good!

This was the second time that we've eaten at The Roost, and we enjoyed it even more than the first time. The coffee here is delicious - this from a "fresh ground, pour-over" coffee drinker. I had the vegetarian patty melt. Not exactly health food, but I can't resist a patty melt! I paid the extra $3 for the side salad. Totally worth it! The spinach salad was delicious and loaded with walnuts and dried fruit and blue cheese crumbles. I opted for the garlic vinaigrette. My husband had the Reuben and tomato soup. He enjoyed it. I was enjoying mine too much to sample his. We couldn't resist a honey pecan sticky roll for dessert. I love a great meal and that's what I got. The server was helpful, knowledgable, and attentive.

Don’t miss this place. Should be 7 stars. Biscuit and gravy best I have ever had.

Update, went back next day and it was even better. Had the neighbor Brad bloody and it is amazing.

They got everything spot on. They started with the great service. Really chill hostess, introduced us to the waitress that gave great recommendations and great food. It's Kansas in the summer so there wasn't a lot of people but still a cool vibe and atmosphere. Wow...I forgot the reason I stopped here and they did not disappoint. The COFFEE!

Breakfast at The Roost. Hard not to notice this place when you see the great food people are eating at the tables out front. My partner ordered The Roost. The highlights for him were the bacon and the French toast. I ordered the mushrooms leek goat cheese omelet. I thought the food was fantastic. My omelet was filled with goat cheese. The breakfast potatoes have garlic and rosemary on them. Pumpkin butter was offered for my toast and that was amazing on the French toast as well. I didn't try the coffee bar options, but I was really tempted and plan to next time. Our total was $34 with tip for two meals and two sodas.

Excellent breakfast. Insider tip- arrive early or you may encounter a wait prior to being seated. Also, once you get into the restaurant, go straight to the counter, grab a mug, and pour yourself a cup of coffee while you wait!

The Roost proves time and time again why it's the best breakfast place in town, and I don't think it's even close. First off, the food quality is always exceptional. These are folks who care about the ingredients they use and where they source them from. I've eaten here dozens of times and never left unhappy. I pretty much always order The Rooster because those damn potato pancakes are like pillowy clouds of culinary perfection, but I decided to veer off course last Sunday and get the chorizo and eggs. Killer! And man was it a huge amount of food. Lawrence is a great Bloody Mary town, we're truly blessed in that sense, but I think the Neighbor Brad's from The Roost is the one to beat. It's stiff, like it should be, but the fresh dill really sets it apart. Plus, you basically get a free appetizer with the amount of cheese they stuff on that toothpick. Bravo to the owners for maintaining such high standards when they're so incredibly busy on the weekends. Forever my go-to spot when folks come in from out of town!

This place has a nice atmosphere and the food was superb! I had the turkey, bacon, cheddar omlet, potatoes with rye toast, paired with peach habanaro jelly. A good cup of coffee to wash it down. A 5-star 🌟 breakfast all around. The server was super friendly. It's definitely a must stop if you're in the area !

Stopped by for a mid-morning coffee and were pleasantly surprised by how good the coffee was! We were traveling through and randomly stopped in, we got iced coffees with almond milk and sugar-free vanilla and caramel, really really good!!

Wonderful Breakfast place, all the food has great flavor. They have a coffee bar, and you can get regular coffee. It's self-serve, you can choose your strength of coffee. The place is small, so there can be a wait to get in. They also have cocktails for their lunch time. This place is only open until 2 pm.

Fantastic first experience at The Roost! The biscuits and sausage gravy is one of the best I've had. Make sure you get a single order with your meal. The Kansan was excellent as well. Bacon crispy, eggs cooked well, and potatoes were flavorful.

The lady went with the corned beef hash. It was delicious and seasoned just right (some places are overly salty).

What a wonderful place! They stop seating about 1-2hrs before they close due to the wait list. The food is phenomenal and worth it! We put our name on the list (1.5hr wait) then walked down to the toy store and shopped around. The biscuits and gravy were the best I think I've ever had from a restaurant. So good that I bought ab extra order to go so I would have it the next day. ☺ They are also dog friendly on the patio and provided water and lovins. I would make the hour drive from KC to go again. High recommend!!

Absolutely fabulous dining experience! We were in Lawrence for some business and decided to eat at a local restaurant. My wife read some reviews about The Roost, and we decided to give it a try. The environment was eclectic, but not pretentious. The food was prepared at an extremely elevated level. The ordinary became extraordinary. We ordered a lot of different things so that we could try as much as we could and take the rest home for leftovers. We were happy we made that decision. Everything was hot, and tasted fresh, made-to-order. Hats off to the roost.

Coffee, coffee, coffee from around the world. Pastries made fresh daily & breakfasts made to order.

Want alcohol? Full bar too.

Seating inside & out. To go, counter or table service.

This very local eatery supports local farmers & artists. All the paintings ( mostly birds) are from on artist & great detail for each painting.

Stopped in for brunch on a Tuesday at 10am with a co worker. KU had just won a national basketball title the night before and this place was packed. There was a wait. But the food and experience was good. I would definitely eat here again, but hopefully when they aren't this busy...

Super cozy spot with fantastic food. Went on a Monday morning so it wasn't super busy . Got a spot at the bar right away and was greeted immediately. Coffee was excellent and the eggs Benedict hit the spot . 😋

Really cool little diner in the downtown area. Food was tasty and portions were bigger than expected. Staff was friendly and responsive! This is a great breakfast stop, we will definitely be back!

The menu items are lower cost relative to the quality, location, portions, and in comparison to restaurants on mass. You can’t beat this place. Service was awesome. They were crazy busy today and yet they somewhat managed to get us a table in 15 minutes.
