Cheng's Garden

I'm not sure why all the poor reviews- this is for the Merle Hay store. We've been coming here for years and have never had a problem. The service is always quick, the food delicious, and always correct. I've never once had my credit card used fraudulently and that's how we always pay. The food is always hot, as they make it when you order. The only thing I don't recommend about this place is eating in, there isn't much in the way of seating. It's a family run business. I love seeing the kids playing and knowing that I am helping support someone's dream of owning their own business.

Great for take out. Our cousin loves spicy food, but has a hard time finding one that is appropriately spicy enough. He ordered a dish marked as spicy and he was happy with it. The non-spicy dishes were good too. They had good flavor and werent too oily.

I think Cheng's is probably the best Chinese food in this area - always tasty and always fresh. I am impressed by the consistency in tastyness that comes from here, like it's the same every time I order.
I recommend the garlic tofu or garlic sauce veggies - always awesome! The veggie fried rice is good, and they'll sub the egg for tofu instead. I normally pick up, but the times that I've gotten delivery it's been quick.
The staff is very pleasant as well when I come in. Of course there is a bit of a language barrier but I always order online so it's pretty great!

I know I base whether I am going to eat at a place or not on the reviews, so I wanted to make sure I left a really good one for Cheng’s Garden on Merle Hay. I ordered delivery and it was delivered very quickly, the driver was kind, and the food was delicious! This may be my new favorite Chinese spot!!!

Ok so I've ordered from Chengs lots of times and it was already my favorite chinese restaurant, but tonight they really blew me away. I ordered with the Beyond Menu app and accidentally ordered to an old address. Then i had my phone on silent so i didn't even answer the call from the delivery driver. So finally the restaurant calls and i answer and we figure out what happened and they just sent the driver out to my new address (10 minutes farther from the old, which is already 10 min from the restaurant, so a 20 min one way delivery trip) without a word. Of course i tipped the driver but they were SUPER cool about it. And the triple delight in garlic sauce is absolutely amazing. If youre ordering chinese, you should order it here.

It was delicious. Excellent egg rolls, good crab rangoons, excellent general tso chicken, excellent fried rice, excellent broccoli with garlic sauce. Huge menu with over 90 things on it. We were very impressed and will definitely be back soon.

Always great service, love the food, been ordering from them for two years. Never had the experience some of these reviews are saying NEVER. One bad or late experience shouldnt make you a hater. Delivery drivers make their living and support families too you have no idea what happened. First you didnt care for the fact that he said nothing and them slammed his english I wouldnt ever service you again It should be about the food which is really good here and not one late delivery experience you are a whiner

Please overlook the negative reviews based on the staff. My experience has been all of the good Chinese take out restaurants the staff is a bit surly at first. The food here is top notch and the lady that took my order was gruff at first but was really nice when she gave me my order.

I did not realize that the lunch special came with pork fried rice so when I called up to the store to ask about the rice and told them I didn’t eat pork they drove all the way back to my house to bring me chicken fried rice instead. I am blown away by their kindness.

We have ordered delivery online from Cheng's garden twice now. We love it! The food is great and we receive our food quickly. This is our new go-to spot for chinese.

Best Chinese food I have had from here in Des Moines. They delivered faster then what they said they would, the prices are very affordable, the portion size is very large for the prices, and its by far the best tasting Chinese around.

Will only be ordering from here from now on!

I ordered the General Tso's chicken and crab rangoons. Both were exceptional. Some of the best crab rangoons I've ever had. I would pick Cheng's as my favorite Chinese restaurant in the area. I highly recommend! :)

Love their food. Typically stop in and order and always ready VERY quickly. Also, be nice to the staff and they will be nice to you.

Easy to work with and the food is always really good. I normally pay around $20 for two people, but the servings are large and there are always leftovers.

Fast and friendly delivery. ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC FOOD!!! 😘 The location may have changed but the food is still AMAZING!!

This is the best Chinese restaurant in the whole Des Moines- Altoona area, food is really good and the portion are generous would definitely recommend...

I order from the Merle Hay location and am never disappointed. I recommend their spare ribs.
