Russell is a town full of history, and as a historical traveler, I recommend a stop here. This Fossil Station Museum reminds us of the sacrifice, and back breaking work of our early settlers to make our country the developed nation it is today. The building alone is worth the trip, to see the hand hewn and assembled native limestone, that was the hallmark of 19th century Kansas.

Wonderful little museum with lots of really interest artifacts. Architecture of the building - inside and out - was very neat too. Staff very friendly and helpful without being snobby or pushy. Had a good time walking around and reading all the area history.

Fossil Station Museum,Russell,Kansas was built in 1907 out of greenhorn limestone or "Post Rock" . This building was the old Russell County Jail.I went to Russell to see the Courthouse and other "old" buildings in town and this is by far the best.
