Restaurante A Baleia

Great place to eat some of the best food in town/ island. The Service is excellent and the host (Tony) is very helpful with information about the island. We went back a couple times a week. My favorite dish was the stingray either fried or grilled. This restaurant should be on your must try list. Thank you for the great dinners.

The owner is so kind and friendly that his behavior made us come 3 times to this restaurant! So the service deserves at least 15 stars! :D
I loved his honesty and recommendations, you can see that he doesn't try to sell you the most expensive dish but realistic choice for the day.
The food:
We had a tuna stake(ca 14€), fish of the day, octopus(ca 18€), steak omg!, shrimps, garlic bread, fresh cheese, local vine..
Not to go in to details, each choice every night was just perfect!
The fish is normally served with sweet and normal potatoes. I normally don't like sweet potatoes, I loved it here - I guess this tells something.
Tuna stake the best ever tried, same goes for the octopus.
Atmosphere:
The restaurant is not the fanciest restaurant, but it gives a very local vibe. I would recommend the place at the terrace with the view to the ocean and cows.

Amazing experience. Great food and cheeses, and the host was very nice and personable as well. I had the bean soup, cheese, spicy wings, and garlic bread, and they were all very good. Tenderloin and swordfish are not dry and well seasoned. Highly recommend.

My family and I went here while on vacation. The owner, who also waited on us was incredibly friendly. We had the Tuna, Swordfish and Francesinha which were all sensational. The caramel mousse was great as well. It even has a view of the sea! If I find my way back in the future I will be stopping by again.

Really cool place! The owner was very nice, helped us a lot, told many local stories and let us try local goods and drinks! I definitely recommend it for a nice supper 😊

The waiter was very nice. The food was good, I recomend you to try half steake. Maybe in picture doesn't looks very nice but taste was wonderful.

Good variety of tasty azorean cuisine.great service nice clean spacious environment.the owner Tony is a genuine gentleman. He went out of his way to help us with some car trouble . We are forever grateful and look forward to visiting again in the near future.

Best beef steak with an amzing sauce, a true delicacy. Tuna steak and seafood starters also great. Professional and very friendly staff, thank you for the great experience.

We had a lovely steak meal, bottle of wine and coffee. The host then gave us a lesson in passion fruit liquor and other local traditional aperitifs ! What a lovely man .. just such a special experience ! Such a great place thankyou

Excellent meal and great service! The man who greeted us (I assume the owner?) was so welcoming and kind. Also recommended us other places to visit. I had the “Baleia” style sirloin and it was delicious. My husband had fish with sweet potato. He normally doesn’t like sweet potato but was in love with this one!

Really good food. I had the fish with sweet potato and it was amazing. Excellent service too, the owner even gave us hiking recommendations, super friendly. Also affordable, we spent about 30 euros for two people. Highly recommended

Tony was a great Host! The service was super fast. We received great advice on the food but also on walks and spots we should visit. Garlic breads and swordfish were Amazing.
We talked a lot at the end and discovered great local alcohol.
The bill at the end was also surpinsingly low.
Definitely a place to go if you are on the Island.
