This unpretentious place is at a beautiful location, right on the seashore with a good view. The fish selection was amazing and the fish was very well prepared; so were fried limpets, that we had for appetizer. The service was excellent.

Wonderful place to have lunch on the island. Selection of seafood is vast and all very delicious. They have a salad bar which you can help yourself. Great view and nice vibes. Totally recommend!

This place was recommended by our hotel receptionist as the best seafood on the island. After spending 3 days in sao miguel I have to agree.
You get to pick a choice of your fresh fish to grill. We picked the sea bream which was so flavorful. They grill it with salt, pepper, and olive oil — you can taste the sweetness of the fish. We also ordered the octopus salad which was good. For dessert we tried the pineapple cake which is a bit sweet for my taste. Really enjoyed the food right on the water. Would recommend.

This spot is hands down the best restaurant on the island. You have a variety of fresh catch of the day and the scenery is just jaw dropping in open air and coastal seaside views. The ambience is quite lively and due to the open air it’s just a great place to have sunset dinner.
Recommend the grilled Barracuda and would not recommend the grilled Tuna as it was a bit too rough.
The prices are fair and it comes with a all you can eat salad bar.

SO many people recommended this place to us, and it still managed to exceed expectations! I love the setup here, you can go for a swim in the ocean right next to the restaurant, then stroll right in for a great meal. They don't take reservations, so come early to avoid a wait. The best things here are the octopus salad and the triggerfish- so juicy it tastes more like meat than fish! The view is also incredible, overlooking the ocean. Definitely worth a visit or two!

Place to which we came back twice! Delicious fish and their soup uhh! Great service and beautiful views on the ocean. Highly recommend to ANYONE visiting sao miguel this is the place with THE BEST fish on the island.

A magical place and quite wonderful restaurant. Very nice, attentive boss. We spent 4 great hours there. Definitely recommendable !

Bar Caloura is all about fish, and fresh fish at that.
It's different from your typical restaurant because there's not really a dish menu. You ask what fresh fish they have, and the waitress walks you to the display where the fish are and explains the characteristics of each of them.
The service was fast and the staff was lovely.
We had a fish soup and white cheese for starters, which were very cheap, compared to other restaurants in São Miguel.
Everything was extremely tasty and well prepared, especially the fish, which was perfectly grilled, served with potatoes, tomatoes, and pepper.
There's a salad buffet that you can serve yourself to as many times as you want.
All in all, if you're in São Miguel and craving for fish, definitely consider Bar Caloura.

Wow the bar was so nice with the view! The wine was delicious and the cheese as well. We had the smoked salmon salad and tuna salad. Overall a great experience and great service.

AMAZING!

The best restaurant on the island. Got a recommendation to go there and it was the best decision. Gorgeous place, with stunning views. It is a bit windy but that’s part of the experience. They have sitting inside if it gets too much.

Ordered lapas that were so fresh and tasty, followed by grilled mix of fish of the day. It was very tasty and full of flavours. The pork fish was really good as well as barracuda. The service was fast and friendly.

The wine is a bit on a pricey side but it’s everywhere across the island.

Will be definitely coming again before the end of the trip!

One of my favorite seafood restaurants in Portugal. Everything is fresh, delicious and staff is very nice and friendly. The location is also stunning. The local tuna steack is a must...

The food tasted amazing! The grilled fish and sea food was fresh, nicely seasoned and portions were huge (we shared both starter and the main and had plenty enough). The salad bar is a nice touch. Beautiful views, sounds of the ocean. Great experience

An absolutely excellent experience. Staff mostly helpful. We met Paulo and I have to admit that he is an asset. Excellent food, fresh fish different every day. We visited the bar twice and, of course, we plan to come again. You eat and you can only hear the sound of the waves. Reasonable prices as well for fresh fish and a view like that.

Thank you kitchen staff for letting us try the limpets!!! We highly enjoyed our dinner experience here. We chose our table and my husband and I shared a sangria pitcher and chose two of the “fish of the day.” We got the tiger fish and the barracuda. I liked the barracuda because it was a softer fish and he preferred the tiger fish because it had a more grilled texture. The hostess took us to the display case to show us all the fish to choose from which we greatly appreciated. Price was higher than other restaurants but it was fun to try more than one fish. If you want to make an economical choice I’d say choose an appetizer or two and share a fish of the day. We felt that was the way to do it since the fish is served “family style” with sides of potato, pepper, and tomato on the plate.

A place to go if you want to try some amazing fresh fish. It was our favourite restaurant in the island (along with A Tasca). Huge portions, so you won’t leave hungry. The staff is very friendly.

Very nice restaurant. The catch of the day was great. Was a bit windy and chilly outside but there is also a few tables inside. Get here early, it got busy really fast. They do not take reservations. We arrived around 11:50 and were the first ones there.

I really did like the fish we had. It was cooked perfectly and so fresh. I believe it was grey mullet. There could be a few more veggies on the plate and a larger selection at the salad bar. They had run out of Baracuda (which I wanted to try) and did not have chocolate cake they did not have in that day. However, our server was SO sweet. Atmosphere is SO great because of the view. Glad we were there in December because she said in summer it is an hour wait at least. Excellent fish restaurant.
