Catalonia Playa Maroma

We've stayed at several resorts in the area and this one has given us the best experience to date. Like most other reviewers have wrote, it's a smaller, more intimate resort than many others. The staff provided service that I would rate higher than 5/5. The rooms were spacious and clean. We had a bit of a walk from our room to the pool, but the walkway was covered with "jungle" so it was pretty enjoyable. There was a nice mix of all ages and something there for everyone. Although the pool area was nice, it's a smaller pool area and there is no "quiet pool" area. That said, the beach was quiet and was actually the nicest beach at a resort we've stayed at. Lots of loungers, areas if you wanted sun or shade, white sand, no rocks, very little seaweed and you could walk a km in either direction. Food was good.

We had a very pleasant stay for 7 days. The service and food were quite good. The beach and pool manager Abigail was exceptional, made sure everything was enjoyable and up to high standards. Beautiful well maintained grounds with a fantastic beach. Highly recommended.

Had an awesome vacation here. It was clean, kid friendly entertainment was amazing and the shows even better! The beach was clean some seaweed but if you walk down a bit it gets really clear. You can walk for a long time on the beach, it’s safe and clean. The walk way to the entrance was like walking through a jungle, best beautiful experience especially at night. All the staff are very polite attentive and a special thanks to our concierge Guillermo who was fantastic, friendly and outgoing in every way!

We had an amazing time at Catalonia! The room was always clean, the buffet and snack areas were great, and there was a lot of wildlife to see. The a la carte restaurants were not amazing but not bad. The table service in the buffet was pretty hit or miss but you are getting your own food so you just may have to wait a long time for drinks. Most of the staff was VERY friendly and helpful. The beach is absolutely pristine and the pool is fantastic. The nightly entertainment was a lot less professional than I have seen at other resorts but likely because they are using the same team for every different show each night AND the same team does all of the beach and pool activities throughout the day so they are spread fairly thin. That being said, they did an excellent job throughout the day and there were always a ton of activities.
Two things that you should know is that the guests here are mostly French and Italian so there are not a lot of english speaking guests and there is not a free airport shuttle like some resorts have. Overall, we had an amazing time and I would highly recommend this resort!

I used a lot of reviews when making this decision for our family (2 kids: 4 and 6), so I thought I would write one as well. We are just getting back and had a wonderful time! Beach was stunning (occasionally seaweed, but the sand was pristine). Service was great, resort was safe, well organized and we loved the Beloved restaurant that came with “privileged” access. Not sure it was essential for a great trip, but it worked well for us.

Last fun part: it’s inside of the jungle! Cool tree canopies, monkeys, coatis and more!

We had dinner tonight at the Catalonia Playa Maroma in the Bloved Lounge Restaurant our waiter was Abieser Alvarez. Today was his first day and he did a fantastic job. The food was great, the service was fantastic, well done Abieser☺

Kevin Vazquez and Riccio in BLoved restaurant were amazing and his suggestions for dinner were perfect. The portions are great and you won’t be disappointed!
This hotel has by far the best food. Great value and staff. We will be back. This restaurant is one of my favourites this trip.
The buffet is also very popular and great. Full of variety and you won’t be disappointed.

Food is good for an all inclusive, but it's the staff that makes this place awesome. Domingo is the best, Karina is pretty dang good as well. The beach is always cleaned every morning and the drinks can take some time on a busy day/night. Patience pays off here. Also the building are spaced out so you will get you steps in.

I would like to give a big shout out to Brenda at the concierge desk. Our second bag did not arrive at Cancun after taking a flight with WestJet. Brenda was so helpful calling WestJet for us so we could get an update on when it would arrive. The beach at this resort is so nice. You can walk for miles in either direction. We decided to upgrade our room which also gave us access to the Beloved restaurant with outside seating and an ocean views. Great food and great service from all the servers!

We have had a wonderful stay at the Catalonia Privileged Maroma. All the employees have been extremely accommodating and helpful. Concierge staff is wonderful.Cleanliness
of the bedroom has been appreciated. Food has been exceptionally delicious. Loved the tacos at Adelita's restaurant, our dinner meals at the Grill , Japanese and Spanish restaurant were delicious. Looking forward to our meal at the Italian restaurant which has been recommended by fellow guests. Our romantic dinner at Beloved restaurant was delicious. The attention to detail by all the servers was appreciated. Thank you to Domingo for guiding us through the meal. We look forward to coming back in the years to come.

excellent resort, wonderful service, especially Rueben who welcomed us to Catalonia and was entertaining and very pleasant, a real asset to the resort. the beach is incredible and the food at Bloved is delicious.

Very good service! Staff are very polite. Food is great. Beach is very clean, no rocks, small waves, you get seaweed everyday but they clean it up every morning. Overall, recommended for family trips

We stayed at the resort 1/30/24-2/5/24. We did not have privileged, just as regular guests.

We had the best stay!!! The resort is absolutely gorgeous!!! The staff is welcoming, accommodating and professional. Everyone greets you as you pass them by. Every member of staff goes above and beyond to make your stay pleasant. The service we received here far surpassed any other resort we've been at. Special thanks to Barbara from the Adelita restaurant.

The room was spacious and updated. The room service was impeccable each day. There are 2 large water bottles in the rooms, and this is the first hotel we've felt we didn't have to chase staff for water. The living quarters are located in the center of the grounds, and they are 3 floors high without elevators, so if you have mobility issues, you should request the first floor. The entire resort has an "avenue" walkway connecting it from one end to the other. You should be prepared to walk a fair amount, but its so worth it. The walkway is shady and beautifully lined with mangroves and palm trees, it lights up at night and has soothing music playing from the forest. Getting off the beach and walking to your room feels magical. On one end of the avenue is the lobby, lounge area, buffet and theater with pool, beach and themed restaurants at the other end. The pool is spacious and super clean. There is a swim up bar in the middle and an activities area near it. There are both deep and shallow areas. There are many loungers and umbrellas and we always had a spot at any time of day. There is also music by the pool. But the star of this hotel is their beach. It is phenomenal, with palms used instead of umbrellas you have plenty shade and sun if you want it. The beach and water are clean, seaweed is dealt with before you arrive so there is nothing stopping you from having the best time. There are again plentiful loungers here as well.

The food: the buffet serves all meals and we found ourselves always happy with their selections. There is something for every taste without being pretentious or over the top. You won't find animals made of fruit, but you will leave happy. The staff here was awesome! The place was clean and the food was always fresh. We visited 4/5 themed restaurants. Adelita being out favorite and we went there twice. The first time, we accidentally missed our reservation by 30 minutes, but they were nice enough to accommodate us anyway. We were so happy with the food we came back a second time (this time right on time). Their deserts are especially fantastic. Our least favorite was the Japanese place, where the main course was a little bland, but their appetizers were really good. During the day there is pizza, crepes, ice cream, tacos, burgers, hot dogs, fried chicken and fish by the pool. The staff at every restaurant we went to were phenomenal!

The animation and shows: the animation team works super hard and they are all really fun. They went above and beyond to start a party everywhere they went and did it all with a smile. Out of the shows our favorite was the rock show and burlesque. On Saturday, the band did a mini show in the lobby and it ended up being the most fun. The singers are fantastic with both their energy and their voices. We had a blast.

There are coati raccoons roaming the grounds, but they are used to people and are very very docile. They will try to beg for food, and in some cases steal it. My advice is to avoid sitting by the food carts during the day and you will be fine. These little creatures are sure to entertain! There was also a monkey that made a brief appearance and iguanas.

Overall, I would highly recommend this resort to anyone! It's not a 24/7 party atmosphere and it's a very relaxing place. We would definitely want to go back there again. Thank you for such a wonderful stay!!!

Our ETC romantic dinner was exceptional. The romantic setup was memorable and delightful. What made it complete was the personal service by our waiter, Gonzalo Alvarez. He provided a complete experience with intimately personal attention to our group of 4. A big hug of appreciation from all of us. It was a perfect ending to a fun day at Maroma.

The room was good, though a bit loud during the day given it's proximity to the pool. Be aware that the ocean view may mean you also overlook the pool which has a DJ during the day (not peaceful). Bloved restaurant was lovely. Isaias Cruz was our waiter and he was wonderful. Very patient and accommodating for me and my 75 year-old mother. Excellent service everywhere throughout the week long visit.

Beautiful scenery, well kept rooms, beach, etc. but what stood out the most during our visit was the 10/10 service. From the housemaids to the bartenders to the waiters and waitresses it was the most tentative staff I have experienced. Can’t wait to come back!

Also, Teodoro and Katrina did a great job of taking care of us while dining at Toscana!

This is a fantastic place. Been here twice. The beach is amazing! Best beach in the area. Very clean, with plenty of shade under beautiful palm trees. The food is very good. There are lots of different restaurants, but make sure you make reservations for all the special restaurants. The best part is the staff, who are always smiling and friendly! Special shout out to Teodoro and Karina from the Toscana restaurant! Amazing service and very nice people. It’s not perfect, and communication is key for everything, but compared to so many other places, this place stands out for us.
