Vinbudins are the only place to buy any form of alcohol in Iceland. Beer is all larger style and to a staunch IPA and Bitters fan, all identical and bland in taste. Alcohol is brutally expensive in Iceland. If there is something you really like, take it with you. Domestic Gin, vodka, whisky etc is equally expensive as imports though the gins are really good (if you can get tonic water)

The security guy looks like a Viking but is super friendly and gave a great personalized recommendation for Icelandic beer. 10/10 would get recommendation again.

They gotta lotta booze but they ain’t open late/ so you gotta getitogedder cuz it’s owned by the state/
If you don’t like the bars, you can come here and pay less/ I got a great deal on some Sangiovessss/
A little red wine is the best kind of medicine/ but don’t forget to try some stuff called brennevin.
I took it for a twirl now it’s somethin I’m liking/ the natives say it was like water for the Vikings!
Aye!

A delicious meal, in really neat environment, two floors to choose from for seating. Decent pricing, and some good menu options. I would go back, especially after a week of mostly living off of the sandwiches that most of the places in Iceland sell.

In true Icelandic fashion you can only buy alcohol at these shops. The armed guard was a little unusual to a Brit but the shop offered a good range of products at the best (only) prices in town. Work on the basis that it's around 15-20% more than buying from a UK corner shop. This particular store was right on the main street so very accessible. Beware much earlier closing time than in the UK

You MUST buy your booze here because these are the only places you can legally buy alcohol.
Supermarkets cannot sell alcohol.
If you buy at the airport duty free when you arrive at Keflavik airport it's almost half price.

If visiting Reykjavik and you happen he o be on a better budget, but love to drink wine - this is your place. Wine costs per bottle what you are paying per glass in restaurants.

Great selection of wines and spirits. All very expensive because of Icelandic laws and taxes....but good selection.

Vinbudin and similar places in Scandinavian countries are a necessary evil for tourists who like a drink. But this one is centrally situated, well stocked and with friendly staff.
