INCREDIBLE bookstore, like something out of a movie almost. The owner had two books by my Great grandfather that I'd never even imagined I could ever find. They were in great condition, one of them was released in 1921! I meant to just buy those two but walked out of the store with over 10 books and the price he gave me was bafflingly cheap. This is a "hidden" gem for sure and the owner is very knowledable and friendly.

Can't recommend this place enough!

Lovely atmosphere. Amazing variety of old and new books. For me, the biggest attraction was the "Fischer Corner" in the store where the late Bobby Fischer would seat and browse his selected books. This, indeed, was the reason I visited this bookstore.
Finally, I can't thank and praise the owner enough: he is such a kind gentleman! He answered all my questions on various subjects, especially re Fischer. I only bought a single book, and showed my genuine interest in his fantastic "retro-style" bookstore . In return, not only he was extremely pleasant (evidently, in his nature), he gave me several old chess magazines for free! He even gave me a gift! A little cup with the picture of a chessboard and pieces, commemorative of the Fischer-Spassky "Match of the Century" held in Reykjavik, 1972.
If you're a chess fan, a visit to this wonderful bookstore is a MUST! I'll post some pics as well.

A gem of a book store. I came from the UK to find a specific Icelandic book for a student. The owner couldn’t have been more helpful tracking the book down. My student was over the moon with the book, thank you! The ship is a treasure trove of books. A fantastic shop.

Absolute dream bookstore. It's a complete mess and that's the best part about it. Loose yourself in it's meander of boxes and overflowing shelves. Take a sit on a random chair somewhere and loose yourself further, in a book this time. There's also a checkers game and honestly even if you're not looking to buy any books, I'd still recommend going in just for the looks of the shop. 👏🏻💯

Always worth a visit if you like old books. If you take a stack of books, usually something can be done about the price. If you don't know where to start looking, ask the staff! Or enjoy hours of searching. Most books in Iceland that someone doesn't need anymore find their way to this place. And so should you

I enjoy visiting used bookstores when I travel. I was looking for an Icelandic author in English, but the kind gentleman found a real gem for me in Spanish "Ángeles del universo" Einar Mar Gudmundsson. I did not have much time to browse, so I was very appreciative of his prompt help (especially when I was not sure what I was looking for). There were 2 other icelandic book lovers shopping at that time and they helped me clarify what I was looking for. This is what I said "I think it is Lexnes, something about angels and there is psychiatrist they talk about in the book" I highly recommend to visit this bookstore when visiting Reykjavik.

Second hand store for mostly icelandic books but other languages available as well. Nice English selection right at the entrance. Awesome place for book lovers.
