We came here to see the beginning of the ceremony of changing of the guards in the palace. It is recommended to check the website for the days on which the ceremony is held. And also arrive half an hour before the start to get a spot. After the beginning you can walk down the street to the palace.

Next to the Buckingham palace this is one place more you should visit during the the exchange of the guards! I totally enjoyed!

If you have experienced the changing of the guards at Buckingham Palace then this is the other end for the complete experience. It starts and ends here. Definitely worth waiting.

We were on the way to the St James park to visit the playground but suddenly heard music coming from the palace. It turned out the guards were practicing here. To us there were a lot less people here then when the changing of the guard takes place at Buckingham palace.

As with any places where you can see the guards perform it does get pretty crowded so it’s hard to get a good viewing spot, especially for our 3 yo.

You can still hear the music loudly while playing in the park.

St James Palace is one of London's beautiful historical palaces in the heart of the city, just down from the Ritz.
Outside you can see the changing of the guard.
Inside are beautiful state reception rooms bedecked with stunning portraits of members of the royal family. There are some particularly lovely recent paintings of both Philip and Elizabeth close to the entrance.
If you are lucky enough to be invited then you should take the opportunity for a visit.

I learned about this location online while in London. I have tried to watch the changing of the guard at Buckingham Palace on two previous trips and found it nearly impossible for a short person unless you camp out for quite a while! This area requires some planning to arrive early enough for a good seat, but since it is not as familiar to tourists, it was very accessible. We were able to listen to a couple tour guides explain the proceedings, as well. We got to hear the Scottish guard play bagpipes and see the inspection of the guard prior to their march! Excellent experience!
*be sure to check the schedule for the different locations online as the formal changing of the Guard is NOT daily in the summer!

This historical palace has so much history. Those who want to learn and / or see history will like this palace. St James's Palace was built by Henry VIII on the site of the Hospital of St. James, Westminster between 1531 and 1536. Photos from different locations near by.

Went to see changing of the guard Sunday morning the day after the King's Coronation. Fantastic place and setting not far from Buckingham Palace. The area was clean and spotless. Well done London, keep up the great work.

Today was a magnificent day. Not only blessed by great weather but by the ceremony of the 50th anniversary of King Charles 1st execution. Fabulous pomp and ceremony plus the changing of the guards!

We were on a changing of the guards tour. Highly recommend booking this if you are taking visitors to London. Early start from Piccadilly circus and then walk down to St James Palace to wait for guards to come out. Less than usual as there was a rehearsal for Trooping of the Colour going on which we had the added bonus of being able to see part of it. Well worth doing this trip as you get to walk up to the palace alongside the guards

You have to overcome all those steps, because on the top of st. Paul's cathedral you will see splendid view! Inside is also great and interesting.

Historical Palace, a short walk from the Mall, The Court of St James is still officially the Royal Court, and the accession and proclamation still take place here as they did recently for King Charles

Saint James Palace is a nice place to see. The colors of this palace are amazing. This is a good place to make a stop and take some pictures prior to walking in the Saint James Park close to the palace. There are also many interesting places to visit or see in this area : Buckingham Palace, Churchill war rooms and Churchill museum, Piccadilly area, etc.

Really surprised there was no one here. Everyone goes to Buckingham Palace and this place was empty.

This is a great space to view - although not open to the public, is visible from the streets. Some great little pubs scatter around this palace which is an official royal residence, Prince Charles's house.
It was built originally during the Tudor period, and there are bits from a lot of eras evident and it has a changing of the guard - as does Horse guards and Buck House. Take it in along with the rest of the area, in the context of a good walk around Piccadilly.
