Castlemaine RSL Sub Branch Inc

I recently attended the ANZAC Day Dawn Service at the Castlemaine RSL. Primarily to pay my respects to those who made the ultimate sacrifice for their Country. It was a moving service, but lacked any demonstrated organisational capability on the part of the current President and their Committee.
They had rows of unoccupied seats, no one to provide directions or guidance and a lacklustre ‘Gunfire Breakfast’, that left many without the opportunity to enjoy this Traditional feature of a Dawn Service.
The second reason to have travelled to Castlemaine was to learn more about my Grandfather, (an Ex AIF Officer, who served his Country with distinction during WW1) JF Wall. A past President, (1921 & 1922) and a man allegedly revered by the members of the Castlemaine RSL and the people of this Central Victorian town, for his work with the RSL in its formative years.

Once the Official Ceremony was concluded, I went into the RSL to partake in the Gunfire breakfast, prior to seeking out a member of the Committee to learn more of my Grandfather.
It was whilst looking at and taking a photograph of, the Plaque Honouring my Grandfather that I noticed a man lounging against the office door, who I recognised as one of those who gave an address at the Ceremony.
I approached him, to ask of his knowledge of my Grandfather, informing him that I was the Grandson of J.F Wall.
His response was basically dismissive and amounted to a ‘so what’. His total lack of interest in talking to a direct descendant of one of the Founding Members the Sub Branch was astounding.
After being dismissed so rudely and abruptly he brushed past me and made off to talk to someone he obviously felt was far more important than I.

This individual disrespected me, disrespected my Grandfather and disrespected my Service. He most definitely does not deserve to hold any Official position in the Castlemaine RSL Sub Branch with his arrogant and dismissive attitude.
As for my Grandfather he would be turning in his grave at actions of this fool.
Will I ever return to Castlemaine RSL, not bloody likely!
