Great spot for delicious food and a refreshing beer (and “a couple” schnapps). Capacity for dining is limited; only three 4 person tables and one larger table for maybe 6-7 people. At the bar theres a few chairs for having a drink and a chat.

The barkeep/cook/waiter was great, he seems to have a gruff sense of humour. Laugh along and you’ll have a great time.

The food was just amazing, if you order a schnitzel you’ll soon hear vigorous beating from the kitchen as he prepares it fresh. He has the menus in English!

Lovely inside as it is warm and cozy. Most tables have a plug for a charging device.

First of all: there are lots of negative reviews, mostly mentioning the owner/host/cook. They're true, but with something around a dozen asterisks.

He is certainly a cantankerous old man, be ready for that. He really didn't want us to order food, but he changed attitude when we all got the Pork Schnitzel (he seems to not care much for cooking else). He is definitely set in his ways and is far too old to change.

That being said, he does get friendlier as the night goes on and you order more drinks. He really enjoyed serving us his Hauspunsch (which was almost toxically alcoholic) and guffawed at some of us ordering dark beer, which he said was trash (and it might be by Austrian standards, but it was still miles ahead of the swill you get in an Aussie pub).

The food is great (highly recommend you get the Salad with the Schnitzel, not the fries), the beers are great, and the place has a really homely atmosphere.

Just don't be put off by his mannerisms (his English is not great, and there WILL be communication issues - and he will get a little frustrated, but it will pass quickly as long as you don't take offence at it) and don't come with too large a group - its a one-man operation and doesn't have seating for larger than seven heads on a single table (and no more than four on most of the tables).

Delicious food, the host/waiter was a little gruff around the edges but kind. The spot is cute.

Came in for a light lunch. Got large portions. Goulash and dumplings was delicious.

this is a very typical tavern looking place in wien, away from all the tourist traps. the owner is a whole character and I will definetely come back just to have a nice beer and hear all of his life stories.

I just finished my beef goulash, my soda with strawberries, oranges, mint and lemon and am about to eat my pancakes right now but honestly, this place is cozy, delicious, and very relaxed! The goulash was really good and dare I see a bit better than the famous,
Heindl's Schmarren & Palatschinkenkuchl
And to be fair, the customer service is respectful. Overall, both places are good but this is better in my humble opinion and feels less touristy.

The genuine article...this small pub/restaurant oozes personality because of its proprietor. Go with it! Huge portions, good beer and an interesting host. Wouldn't have missed it and would definitely go back.
