This square has two very impressive buildings on each side. Each one is home to very different museums. The museums are closed on Tuesdays
In the centre is a very large set of statues of prominent people

Absolutely gorgeous. We stumbled by when walking about the city. There are a lot of benches to sit and relax, the lawns are immaculate and the flowers are very pretty.
There's a large building in the middle with an odd piece of art housed inside. It wasn't busy at all when I visited.

My visit to Maria-Theresien-Platz in Vienna was nothing short of enchanting. This public square, nestled between the Natural History Museum and the Art History Museum, is a true architectural marvel. The grandeur of the buildings, with their exquisite detailing and majestic facades, left me in awe. It felt like stepping into a page of history, with each structure telling its own story.
What made my visit particularly memorable was the beautiful Christmas bazaar held in the square. The festive atmosphere was magical, with twinkling lights, charming stalls, and the scent of seasonal treats in the air. The bazaar offered a delightful array of local crafts, ornaments, and culinary delights, making it a perfect spot to soak in the holiday spirit.
The blend of the square's stunning architecture and the vibrant energy of the Christmas market created an experience that was both culturally rich and festively joyous. It's a place where the past and present merge beautifully, offering a glimpse into Vienna's heritage while celebrating the season's cheer.

Very nice platz!
The Christmas market was big and not so crowded but very very expensive. The statue in the middle was beautiful and the lights as well!

Place with museums, monuments and too much greenery.
I visited here in the afternoon but best time to visit is in the evening.
Lovely place to spend time. You'll find other activities also where you can participate and which are exclusively for tourists.

Vienna's Maria-Theresien-Platz is more than just a square; it's a portal to the city's artistic and imperial past. Two grand, mirror-image museums, the Kunsthistorisches Museum and the Naturhistorisches Museum, flank the plaza, their facades adorned with statues that whisper tales of Habsburg monarchs and artistic legends.
In the heart of the square, the majestic Maria Theresa Monument reigns supreme. The Empress, immortalized in marble, gazes benevolently upon visitors, surrounded by allegorical figures representing the Habsburg Empire's vast reach. This is a must visit in Vienna if you are on a budget!

I visited this place a long time ago, in 2018, but I forgot to post pictures. Now that I've found them, I'm reminded of what a wonderful experience it was. I hope to have a chance to visit this place again, to sit on the grass and enjoy.

The monument to Maria Theresa (1717-1780), ruler of the Habsburg lands, is one of the most important monuments of the Habsburg monarchy in Vienna. It is located in the center of the park and around it rise the mighty buildings of the museums. For Christmas, we enjoy New Year's stalls and goodies here.

A beautiful garden between two great identical buildings, that happen to also be museums. There are also people selling tickets in the middle, which I don't like, but otherwise it's maintained, well placed and offers good photo spots. The statue of Maria Theresa is kind of dark for such a sunny and green place, but it's still a great artwork worth going round.

The outside lawn is great for an evening picnic with the family or couple's leisure walk. Large open public space, and at the time we visited (outside only), there are some construction activities going on. Also be mindful that the frequent entering and exiting police/ security vehicles with short burst of siren as this site is often visited by VIP and dignitary during core business/ early evening hours.

A nice square with the sculpture of Maria Theresa in the centre. You can see the Natural History Museum on one side and the Museum of Fine Arts on the other side. We didn't have time to visit either of those. Maybe next time.

Amazing Christmas Market
We had a blast walking around the stands, tasting food and chatting to people.
Not to forget the castle in the background that adds a great flavor to the experience.
In general I must say that our one week stay in Vienna was amazing and people are really friendly.
We even thinking about moving there with the family 🙌
