Dark and cozy, this secret post-performance place of musicians from the Volksoper is one of the very few REAL, typical and original "Gasthäuser" left in Vienna. I've been coming here for 30 years, it just keeps getting better, i.e., stays the same. Good local seasonal wine selection. Order "Fiaker Gulash" - it's not on the menu, but they'll make it for you. Cash only.

After several days of searching for authentic and classical local dishes, we finally stumble upon one thankfully before we leave Vienna.

I’d recommend the Schweinsbraten which is a joint of pork roasted in a shallow broth. The pork was tender with balanced seasoning to bring out the flavour of the meat. It completes with kraut or sour cabbage and the traditional ball-like bread-based knödel or dumpling.

Also recommended is the chicken schnitzel with a generous cut of chicken breast, unlike the other touristy establishments with more breadcrumbs than meat.

The service was also warm and welcoming.

Wonderful place with a nice laid back atmosphere. Food was fantastic and the staff were welcoming and friendly. Best place to stop for a meal before going to the Volksoper. We were in Vienna for a week and ate there twice.

I walked up to the guy and told him it was my first day in Austria and asked him what I should eat. He produced the most delicious wienerschnitzel with cucumber, potato, sauerkraut salad on the side. With a drink all for 13 euros. Can't beat that.

Very nice local restaurant. The Kaiserschmarnn were excellent. 3 portions were nicely served on 6 plates for our group. With the coffee came a big glass water for free. So we enjoyed both very good food and fine service.

Excellent food. Excellent service. Waiter was great with our daughter .... brought her a doggy bag before requested ... it was clear the schnitzel had defeated her.

とてもローカルな雰囲気のガストハウスです。私は日本からの旅行者で、ウィーン名物であるシュニッツェルとグーラシュを食べるために訪問しましたが、どちらの料理もとても美味しくてたいへん満足しました。
店内は落ち着いた家庭的な雰囲気で、地元の人々が多く利用していました。
店主の方はとても気さくで親切で、我々が旅行者であることが分かるとすぐに英語のメニュー表を提供してくれました。また、不勉強のため食事後にlecker!と言ってしまいましたが、ウィーンではgut geschmeckt!が正しい言い方であることも優しく教えてくれました。

注意点としては会計がCash onlyであるため、訪問の際は現金を持って入ることが必要です(お店のドアに貼紙で書かれています)。

Daraus hätte durchaus auch eine angepasste Bobo-Bude mit dem unvermeidbaren Fritz-Kola werden können. Aber nein: Unverbogene und gerade Wiener Wirtshauskultur, die leider viel zu selten geworden ist!

Atmosphärisches, „gestriges“ Interieur, gutes Service und sehr gute Speisen auf normalgebliebenem Preisniveau.

Das Publikum ist erfrischend divers. Von den üblichen hiesigen Beisl-Verdächtigen bis zu Volkstheater-Gestrandeten jedweder Couleur ist hier alles vertreten!

Ur gutes Schnitzel! Suppe und Salat auch top! Nette Kellner und schöne Atmosphäre! Sehr empfehlenswert!

Rundherum tolles Service. Wir hatten als Kulturschaffende eine sehr schöne Lesung, tolles Publikum und ein sehr gutes Nachtmahl. Danke & jederzeit wieder! Und nicht zu vergessen, die wunderschönen, denkmalgeschützten Fenster!
