Neidhart Festsaal (formerly Neidhart Frescoes)

Loved this place, part of the Wien Museum. As such, on the first Sunday of each month the entrance is free of charge. The museum is a ballroom with wall paintings (the oldest surviving from a private home in Vienna): basically, a small rectangular room, with explanations and captions both in English and German, some vitrines in the middle with pieces of objects, but also a touch screen to read more about the place, the owner/merchant and scenes depicted. You can open some drawers and see more objects, so there's that element of interaction. From the outside, with the big door of the building shut, you would think it's closed and you may have to ring to be let in. Then again you have to find your way, since it is on the first floor and the door to enter the room will be closed too. I think partly because of all this, even if the building is super central!, it was quiet and peaceful on Sunday morning: in fact, for the good part we were alone with the one member of staff sitting at the desk at the end of the room. There are a very few nails on the wall just by the entrance where you may leave your coat (and the bag on the floor, if you wish), but you may as well keep all on you since the visit will not be long.

An incredible discovery; must see. Staggering that this has survived. The entrance is not obvious from the street, since it is inside house no. 19. Look for a small sign next to the closed door and ring the bell to gain entrance. Very friendly staff. A lot more than expected in a little room! Pull out all the drawers to read on medieval history and read through the interesting explanations of the murals' subject matter on the video screens. In German and English with stools to drag around and sit on, because it can take a while.

These are the oldest secular frescoes known in Vienna. They have been discovered in the 1980's in what appears to be an ancients ball room of sorts.

The renovation and Re-opening has hugely improved this place: Now there is interesting background information given, and the exhibits (everyday articles from medieval times) are excellent. For booked guided tours, there are even replicas available for hands-on experiences - children can try a real chain mail.

It's a great history museum get to know about the lifes from middle ages, it's also children friendly which parent can explain to them in a easy way too!

Cosy, small place with detailed descriptions on the frescos and exhibited archaeological items. Also a nice historical insight of the medieval Vienna, which is otherwise missing in the modern landscape

Interesting frescoes, very well conserved considering how old they are, although be advised it is a small place after all

Da ist man in Wien geboren, zwischenzeitlich in Pension und hat bis vor einer Woche nichts darüber gewusst.

Die ältesten profanen Fresken Wiens in einem Privatgebäude muss man einfach gesehen haben!

Una vera scoperta (per la verità dovrebbe essere pubblicizzato meglio)! Vengo spesso a Vienna, ma sino ad ora questo gioiellino nel centro città mi era sconosciuto! Per gli amanti del Medioevo (e non solo): ci sono dei pannelli esplicativi molto interessanti, che non si limitano a raccontare gli affreschi (molto belli e ben conservati), ma spaziano sulla cultura e la società del tempo in Austria e a Vienna in particolare.... assolutamente da vedere!

Wirklich toll wie der wenige Raum genutzt wird, um den Besuchenden einen kompakten und informativen Überblick über Wien zu Neidharts Zeiten, die Geschichte des Hauses und natürlich die Wandmalereien zu geben!

Die Hörbeispiele für Musikstücke sind schön gewählt und vermitteln ein Stück der Atmosphäre, die mal in diesem Tanzsaal geherrscht haben muss!

Besonders interessant fand ich persönlich die Touchscreens mit den Details zu den Wandmalereien sowie den Infos zur Restaurierung :)

kurze Zeit im Museum, weil Inhalte überschaubar sind. Dennoch gut aufgearbeitet und sehr informativ. Die Fresken ob des Alters und des Erhaltenseins beeindruckend! Gemütlicher Tipp für den Sonntag!

Hochinteressante mittelalterliche Fresken. Kleines feines Museum.

Die Wandmalereien im Neidhart-Festsaal sind gut restauriert und einen Blick weŕt. Die zugehörigen Animationspulte stellen gut aufbereitet Informationen zu den dargestellten Szenen an der Wand und dem mittelalterlichen Leben sowie Informationen zu Neidharts Liedern.

Diese bei Renovierungsarbeiten gefundenen Wandmalereien aus dem Mittelalter sind als winziges „Museum“ bei dem man klingeln muss um Einlass zu erhalten hervorragend in die Zeitgeschichte, und das Haus in die mittelalterliche Umgebung eingebettet durch die Audio-, Video-, und haptischen Ausstellungsstücke, man sollte durchaus etwas Zeit mitbringen, aber es ist ein wunderbar gut verdaulicher Happen Wiener Geschichte der hier lebendig gemacht wird! Auch hier gibt es jeden ersten Sonntag im Monat freien Eintritt, sonst sind die 5,- Euro für Erwachsene aber auch gut angelegt. Mitten in der Innenstadt.

Ein Kleinod, unscheinbar im Verborgenen. Selbst Wiener kennen es kaum.

Fresken mit Szenen aus dem Leben und den Liedern des Dichters und Minnesängers Neidhart (Wirkungszeit von ca. 1215 bis 1240, zuerst im bayerischen Raum, dann am österreichischen Hof) an den Wänden von Haus Nr. 19 in den Tuchlauben und die frühesten Profanfresken in Österreich. Das gotische Haus wurde in den 1710er Jahren im barocken Stil überbaut. Heute sieht man die Fresken, von deren ursprünglichem Umfang von wohl 30 m nur 15 m freigelegt sind, auf Augenhöhe. Im Mittelalter erstreckten sich die noch sichtbaren Teile des Bilderzyklus im oberen Bereich des Festsaales. Aufgrund der kunstvollen, detailreichen und recht realistisch wirkenden Wandmalereien ein wirklich lohnenswertes kleines Museum, in dem die spätmittelalterliche Kultur noch ein wenig zu spüren ist!

Un diamante escondido en el centro de viena. Se trata de unos frescos de hace más de 800 años pintados en lo que era una sala de ballet, si no recuerdo mal. El museo se encuentra en un primer piso, algo escondido, pero sin lugar a dudas vale la pena. Tened en cuenta que el primer sábado de cada mes la visita es gratuita!
