Franciscan Church, Vienna

A beautiful church. It's a little off the beaten pass, so it is not overrun by tourists.

Unassuming from the outside, and absolutely stunning on the inside. We came for Christmas Eve mass and were so happy we did.

Beautiful unusual church! 😍 Exterior don't promise much but boldly embellished interior is a truly marvel. Gothic cross-vault reminds how old that Franciscans monastery is. Huge main altar and lots of gold! 😎
Universe of extremely rich baroque visual vocabulary took me in word of grandeur and opulence!
You can wonder what style is that weird blue facade? 🤔 I will tell you: it is one of very rare examples of renaissance in Vienna and only renaissance church fasade in Austria's capital.

They play the organ pipes all day I believe. Now its probably someone practicing, but it's nice to actually hear them for a change!

One of the best church in Vienna, Austria!! I really liked the place and as well people and also built. Very good architecture and everyone will fall in love it!!

Nice church. The organ is apparently well-worth visiting, but I didn't have a chance to see it. The square in front of the church is really quaint, good place to have lunch.

About The Franciscan Church: There have church here since 1139, but it is the current Gothic-style one that will make your jaw drop. You’ll enjoy trying to wrap your head around the scale of the forest of columns holding up the uniquely designed vaulted canopy of a ceiling. The breathtaking beauty is impossible to get into one photo unless you have a fish eye lens. The interior is pretty bare as all of the color and attention is meant to be drawn to the gilded Virgin Mary alter in the center of the Church.
Church Hours: Daily 6:30am-7:30pm; No visits during mass.

The exterior is humble but the interior is simply stunning. It seems to be less touristic that St Stephens and Charles Church, and this provided a more peaceful and calm place for introspection.
