A historical church that I didn’t know much about. I am glad I came to learn about this beautiful church, and made a visit. Great that it is open to public for free, which is hardly the case in Vienna. Highly recommended to visit if you are in this area.

This church is unbelievable. I didn't know that it is where Franz Joseph and Sissi got married, but what brought me here is the Maria Cristina's tomb. A masterpiece created by the talented hands of Antonio Canova, I studied many years ago while in high school but I didn't remember it in which church was - when someone mentioned it, I had to go and boy I wasn't disappointed. Simply amazing!

Beautiful church in Vienna. 100%recommended to visit. If you're visiting Vienna, there is a Library and a lot of national museums next to the church, that you should visit. *One of the photos below is from the library*

Beautiful church as many have said. Enormous vaulted ceilings and white plaster add to sense of scale. The carvings on the pews are delightful. Gladly go back each time.

Really beautiful church that is gothic in design but simpler and brighter than many similar churches. It’s easy to miss so it was very quiet on the afternoon we stopped by.

Sunday Mass at 11 am accompanied by symphony orchestra, choirs and organ music. Its amazing. Its a real pleasure. Better arrive earlier because 10 min before the Mass all places were busy. People stay in the aisles. Mass was 1,5 hours. Admission is free but donation is very welcome. Dont forget take a look on cenotaph of Archduchess Maria Christina

This church is really impressive, thanks to its massive architecture and its marble-like walls and columns, that make the building look optically much higher. One of the main reasons why you should visit this church is the funerary monument for Maria Christina of Austria, a beautiful masterpiece of Canova, so meaningful and aesthetically pleasing, and so realistic too, thanks to Canova's talent.

The wedding of the famous couple - Princess Sisi and Emperor Francis Joseph I - took place in this church. If this wedding took place today, not only the invited guests would watch it, but thanks to television cameras, viewers all over the world could watch the entire ceremony. Subsequently, photographs and discussions about the ceremony, the wedding guests, the groom, and especially the bride and her wedding dress appeared in the press. But 200 years ago, everything was different. The Hofburg Palace, the residence of the Habsburgs in Vienna, was connected by a closed passage (today it no longer exists) to the Augustinian Church. František Jozef walked through this corridor directly with his bride Sisi to the church, where only selected invited guests were allowed to participate in the wedding ceremony. No representatives of the press or illustrators recorded this historical moment in the form of a detailed article or image. And so, as true as it sounds, there is certainly no surviving evidence of what kind of wedding dress Sisi was wearing that day…

You can find here the tomb of duchess Maria Christina of saxony sculpted by master Canova. A truly impressive piece of art.

Great church. I love the cenotaph or Grabdenkmal for Duchess Maria Christina von Teschen, a daughter of Maria Theresia. If I'm not mistaken, Maria Christina was her only child who was allowed to marry the man she loved.
I love all the beautiful artwork in the old catholic churches.

The Augustinian Church is a venerable place with a great history. It was the wedding church of the Imperial Family of Habsburg. I had the extraordinary honour that I could marry there myself, at Silvester 1919. It was a very romantic wedding with great organ music from Bach and Widor. A lot of tourists were that much fascinated by the wedding that they filmed, photographed and entered the chapel where the holy covenant took place, for watching the whole cerenony...
