MAK, Vienna's excellent Museum of Applied Arts deserves more fame, more success than it has. It sits in a splendidly ornate historic brick building – a comparative rarity in Vienna. So for lovers of architecture the building is worth seeing in its own right (and don’t missing the stunning stained glass windows). But most of us will be going more for the exhibitions, some of which of course change constantly. When we went, we were immediately helped by a staff member who was next to the ticket counter – she carefully explained, in excellent English, what was on and in what order we might tackle it. And we saw some wonderful exhibits, particularly of Art Deco designs (a simply wonderful collection), and even some pieces by the redoubtable Klimt. I wish we could have spent more time here. It was all beautifully curated in good English. The temporary exhibitions were pretty variable, but that is to be expected. We lunched at the absolutely stunningly beautiful restaurant, where the service was horribly slow and the choice sadly limited.

The museum is amazing! It is so big, with so many different sections and themes: from Baroque to technology. I love that it is very interactive and modern. Also, there is a bit of criticism about the contemporary world, too much use of plastic, textile, fast life, not enough of recycling. You can follow the exhibits with an audio from their website which you can scan with a phone along the way, so make sure you bring headphones with you.
The interior of the main hall is stunning with lots of architectural details. The entrance ticket (16€ - reasonable price) is for the whole day so don’t worry if you get tired, you can always go out for a break or lunch and come back later. But definitely take the whole day for this museum, it is worth it!

The museum is located in a very beautiful building, and there is a lot to see, both in permanent and temporary exhibitions. I loved all the exquisite old furniture and statuettes, so impressive! Textile and Ceramics exhibition was fascinating, some exhibits so lovely I would like to take them home, and some quite creepy :) Critical Consumption exhibition was a bit meh, I mean a lot more could have been done to express the idea, I didn't even feel it left anything for me to think about. Protest/Architecture exhibition was... I don't know, it felt it was more told than shown. I loved My Ullmann's exhibition, it was very intellectually and esthetically stimulating. All in all, the MAK is great, I think everyone will find something they love there.

What an interesting place! The exhibitions make you really think about consumerism! Beautiful building and well-organized ! Definitely you should visit!

If you’re interested in contemporary art you need to visit MAK. I recommend to get directions from the lady at the information desk. It takes time as she is very detailed but as you go through different areas you utilise the info. I found ceramic designs very interesting.

Amazing. In addition to the collections of classical furniture (Biedermeyer, for instance), paintings and crystal glassware, there were temporary collections of modern art, themed on relevant topics such as the pollution caused by the modern fast fashion industry.

Lots of great pieces, including furniture from the 1900s. Lots of different galleries, concerning different art concepts or eras. Would visit again.

This museum is a masterpiece of art, hiding something interesting in every corner. I really enjoyed discovering all the nuances of art here, also because it is a meeting point for all artists. Between the interactivity and the exhibition everything was perfect! I recommend anyone who loves art to stop by here 🙌

So much to see at this beautiful museum. Great exhibitions and thoughtful curation. I did find some of the spaces much too warm and stuffy. I appreciate the need to control humidity and temperature but one room was 28 degrees! This made for an uncomfortable visit to that space.

The most peaceful museum in Vienna with many beautiful things to see. They perfectly manage visitors, with kindness, friendliness and smile on their faces. Right after the purchase of tickets they kindly explain the location of almost every single room and you can take a map with you. You definitely won't feel lost there and can experience the beauty of the whole building and MAK's exhibitions.

My favorite European museum! From its inception as a showcase for industrial art - to todays focus on objects of art in our everyday lives - I find the displays and temporary exhibits both interesting & and timely. Highly recommend! Excellent cafe & Musuem shop !

MAK is the most surprising museum. There is something to find for everyone, and they often have well thought-out exhibitions. The building itself is part of the charm, and do not forget to visit the Salonplafond!

I enjoyed this museum, especially the lower floor, the lab. I went on a Tuesday night, after 18 o'clock. It's a special price as well, only 7 euros instead of 15. There are also some works of Klimt.

But the dual MAK/Leopold Museum tickets. You don't have to go on the same day. The MAK is interesting but you have to like the various periods of design. The Austrian or more precisely the Vienna style was a local adaptation of the English Arts and Crafts movement a la William Morris. Other this depict baroque and Asian styles and the lower floors point to contemporary green-left ideas about living on top of each other, opening nothing, and never travelling unless you are part of the global virtue sunshine movement. Best case, you'll learn the 21st century ten commandments; wide car, you'll know your enemy. And it's an interesting building. Check out the exhibitions in the modern part at the back.

"The Wiener Weltausstellung 1873 revisited exhibition" focused on 19th century orientalism visited today was perfectly executed, with refreshing, up to day professional critical approach.

A most lovely museum indeed. It’s big enough for me the take a bite of Vienna in the novecento and the contemporary art, but at the same time it’s not too big to lose direction and focus. It’s a perfect company in a rainy day.

Great building, amazing exhibits, interesting displays and explanations, friendly staff and colourful and clean restrooms.
The ticket is valid for a whole day, which means you can go for a cake break and come back for more! We spent a total of 5 hours in the museum - which I think is one of the best I have ever been to. An absolute must-see for architecture and design enthusiasts.

Very interesting exhibits with something for everyone. Older and younger pieces that should attract older and younger visitors! Had a great exhibit on virtual media which was refreshingly interesting.

One of my favourite museums in Vienna. Love the building, love the architecture, love the exhibitions, love the vibe.
And you need to stop to the gift shop, they have plenty of options for gifts.
