Came here with 3 friends, had amazing food (I had the asparagus and potato) which was very reasonably priced, filling and tasty. Very chill atmosphere, friendly staff. Love the idea of weekly menus. Perfect pitstop before taking in a concert nearby. Would definitely come here again without hesitation.

So delicious! The weekly menu changes but there always seems to be at least a couple of vegetarian options. I had the wild garlic dumplings and wow, they were amazing! The place is more of a fast food/takeaway eatery than a restaurant, but you get your food super quickly and it is so tasty and reasonably priced.

My favorite Austrian food I’ve had this whole trip. Everything is made with love. They are extremely helpful and accommodating to English speakers, as well as having fast service. I felt like this was real, homemade food. The garlic dumplings and soup were fantastic. There are limited menu options but we got to try almost everything and it was all excellent. They were able to accommodate my group of 11 quickly and well even with their limited space. Not a single person left hungry or unhappy. We adored this place!

Food that goes directly to your heart and reminds of the traditional flavors, with a touch of modern. This is just the place that Vienna needed desperately, and the kind that we’ve long been looking for!

Cozy, small place with the right atmosphere and food selection. Great quality, fairly priced. Expect to find a different menu every few days! But don’t worry, I bet you’ll leave with a full tummy & a happy heart.

The best part? Seeing the chef cooking the dishes on the spot, tasting and feeling, how good cooking is all about.

Dare I say... soul food? :) Well alright let me describe it in a way that is not appropriating the term that is usually associated with southern African American cuisine. I can say, with confidence, that the food here is made with love and dedication. And it was such a pleasant surprise for me. For two months, I've been trying to find a good Austrian restaurant in Vienna. I want to be able to appreciate the local, traditional foods more. German or Austrian cuisines don't have a great reputation, and my first few times trying either left me baffled. Still, I didn't want to continue bashing the foods, so I held on to the hope of finding a good restaurant that could change my perspective. And I've found it.

I believe that in foods, what matters is the way you cook it. The roast pork dish, the restaurant's signature, is definitely slow-cooked. That's love. The pork skin crispy chip is a treat. The fat side has this bready touch (interesting), only when you eat it, you know it's the fat. I say this because I thought it was a piece of bread at first look. The beef tartar, though good, with interesting ingredients I can't identify (dried capers?), is not a contender for the roast pork.

A few minor negative points, just FYI. First, the restaurant is very small and doesn't have good exhaust fan. So you will smell like roast pork. If you don't like food smell on your clothes like I do, keep this in mind. Second, I don't know why they gave me only one piece of pork skin in a giant paper bag?

Fantastic food and service. Very economical for the quality and amount of food we received. Cozy atmosphere with a good selection of beer too! We had pork, sauerkraut, and dumplings. The pork was so flavorful with tons of flavor. The kraut was bright and just the right amount of bite. And the dumplings were firm but fluffy with great flavor….not bland or starchy. They seem to care if we enjoyed our meal which was an extra layer of service we did not expect. Great experience!

Absolutely delicious, perfect for cold winters. The ‘creamy fusilli with kale’ was light and creamy with a hint of caraway. The ‘creamy lentils’ had a stronger flavour and spice to it. I highly recommend both! The only thing I didn’t like was the drink matcha lemon soda cannot recall name..

Finally a place which focuses on what they supposed to focus on . It doesnt want to be the fanciest place the most modern restaurant, don’t try to be the no1 in marketing cliches , or advertisements. They just want to deliver the Best possible food what they can and they doing it great !Surprisingly good food , the best what I tried so far in Vienna , and I tested already many of them ! A big thanks to the staff for the kind service as well ! :)

Great wee place for tasty, wholesome food. I had the roast pork which was delicious, and filled me up well after a long, chilly day of travel. There were also good vegetarian options which had me tempted!

The staff were really friendly, spoke very good English but were also patient when I wanted to practice my German.

Place was one minute from the Wedding Statue. Multiple vegetarian options. I got cabbage with pasta and truffle oil, and the boss got pasta with King Mushrooms. This is a cool, cozy place, and the food is excellent. Our server spoke perfect English and was great at explaining all vegetarian options. Great place.

The food is Great and they change the menu every few days. We went there twice during our stay in Vienna and both times we were super Happy. The price is also very good for the centre of Vienna, one main dish is between 9 and 12 €. If we come to Vienna again this would definitely be our go to place for dinner.

Great food, the pork with sauerkraut that’s their specialty is moist and flavorful, comfort food like your Austrian grandma would make. This is a very low-key order at the counter place, nice music and vibes, several bottled craft beers outside the normal offerings are available. Most of the menu changes weekly based on what is in season. The owner and staff care about quality food and keeping customers happy, that really came through on our visit. Definitely recommended, get away from the tourist traps and go here for food prepared with love instead!

So glad I got to try their roast pork and crackling! Every staff member was very friendly. Crackling was very delicious! Also, I loved the sauerkraut that comes with it which balances the flavour. The food comes in a cardboard box, but you can sit inside as there are quite a few tables. Would come again to try other dishes!

Ordered the soup, roasted liver kidneys, & some beers.
The kidneys were the bomb!! The kidney and the fat on it complimented very well with the sauce and the starchy potatoes.
Will definitely go back to try the other dishes.

Staff was extremely warm and friendly. Highly recommend to try it out!

If you are someone mindful of your clothes/hair smelling of food after, then you might want to take away like I did as its an open kitchen. Otherwise the high tables and the causal ambience is actually quite nice. The food are in a takeaway box anyways, so either way it works out!

I had been wanting to eat here for a while and I finally did! I am often quite sceptical of restaurants with high scores as the expectations run rather high in such cases and Schachtelwirt is no exception. But I must admit this place deserves its high score. The roast pork was absolutely delicious and the portion was large enough to fill you for hours on end. The staff was super friendly and the vibe was amazing. It is lovely to see a modern hip place serving traditional Austrian food. A hidden gem worth giving a try. You won't be disappointed! Cards accepted.

Disclaimer: I am a tourist from the US

This restaurant has an amazing pork roast served in a deep to-go container which to me was quite charming. The flavor of the roasted pork mixed with the kraut and bread dumplings was perfect and had great seasoning combinations. If I lived in Vienna, this would be a place I would frequent.

The waiter was very kind and helpful, and the atmosphere is very casual.
