You won’t find here latte, cappuccino, or flat white, but you will be impressed by the wide selection of the high quality coffee of various types. Delicious traditional desserts are served and some food too (breakfast, hot dishes). Very cozy atmosphere. Amazing place! 🤩

Drench yourself in History while sipping a Coffee along with Apple strudel / sweet cheese strudel/ sacher with cream or any other short eat here.

Started by Mr. And Mrs. Hawelka this cozy Cafe is a room full of people from all over the world and Locals making this cafe buzzing with stories of cross culture .

Don’t hesitate to share table. We shared table with a Mother and Daughter from Vienna and one conversation let to another and in a blink of an eye we have an hour long coffee.

An absolute must visit place for a coffee and snack.

Authentic place where time is frozen. Nevertheless it was fully booked the atmosphere was comfy and pleasant. The staff is very helpful, they saved me with a charger. Waiting was not long at all as for business. Very tasty apple strudel + nice coffe about 10 euros. Tea is ok, casual bags.

Absolutely wonderful, good service, food and well priced. Strudel and Frische Buchteln (little delicious breads with plum inside)

The decor is very old school and it exudes charm. If you don't like this kind of vibe then don't come and complain it needs renovating 🙄

This café is about as iconic as it gets; an absolute must-visit, if you’re in Vienna!

Yes, the furniture is worn out, yes the menu is old and doesn’t have vegan offers, or things such as decaf coffee, BUT IT’S SUPPOSED TO BE THAT WAY, which is something some people don’t seem to understand. It’s all about keeping things as authentic and traditional as possible, in attempt to maintain that old Viennese flair.

I absolutely loved every minute of my 2 visits here, and the food was delicious. Highly recommend the Topfenstrudel and Gulaschsuppe.

I will 100% be back!

How much history can a Cafe send out? Herr Ober - is as normal as it has been back in the days. We had some coffee and a Sachertorte and everything was delicious. Absolutely a recommendation, but be aware it is a small and crowded place. Therefore take it is easy.

This place didn't look like it was teeming with history in the outside. But on one rainy December evening, this has been a solace, comfort, and warm hugs all at the same time. Me & my cousin were suckers for history & culture and just sitting there, with servers in their dapper black costumes (I dont know how to say that from french to english, i'm sorry) going around, we seemed to have transformed to another place, where people come together to discuss, enjoy the moments and all over some good food, beer, and desserts.

We ordered the frankfurters with the best baked bread I ever had in Vienna. I'm telling you, I ordered the same in different areas afterwards, but nothing beat the bread from Hawelka. And as 1st timers, I thought we need to eat with fork & knife so I asked the server. He told me that I should it the local way & explained it to me, without making me embarassed about it how we should eat. I don't mind eating with my hand, and I'm glad we had the solid recommendation from him to do just that! :)

And yes, the Frische buchteln! Where should I start? It was a plate of goodness, warm hugs, and home. It was so soft, and I wanted to recreate it.

All in all, it was a lovely experience. I wish to go back here again and have frankfurters and buchteln again

Nice ambience, one of the old viennese cafe experiences. Loved their hot chocolate and cheesecake. It's Cash Only.

The mood was very cozy and old fashioned. I tried to feel Vienna in the fast. The most interesting thing is its history and they keep their style. Coffee was fresh~!!

Brown Wien cafe with a fascinating history. Expect some time to get a table. Is possible to book a table the day before, if the waiters like you

This coffee house is a Viennese institution which never put on a tourist make-up - it is as authentic as it gets. I had my first morning coffee there when returning to Vienna after 16 years. The idea is to live not do sightseeing - which is the Viennese way of life - alas I only add a single picture. Ms. Hawelka used to bring me freshly made delicacies. Today her son continues the family tradition. A must see if you want to understand Vienna.

Delicious food!! Also highly affordable. Highly recommend the goulash. Maybe with some schnapps ;) It is very cozy inside, this restaurant has been open for three generations and has the original decor from 1910. It’s larger inside than it appears outside, they had a table for us within 2 minutes, even though it was a very busy night. Attaching photos of the menu here. They also have free WiFi under Cafe Hawleka Gast.

The ambiance of this place is worth the trip alone, it looks and feels like nothing in this place has changes since the 1930s. The cafe melange was delicious and the plum bread dessert was so good and a great late night treat after dinner. The area is bustling too so plenty to do around here. Enjoy.

I disagree that you need cash, I paid just fine with credit. I speak blah German, but I was able to communicate just fine. Staff was very friendly. On Tuesday at 10am, there were just a few other customers and a doggie sitting in a reserved booth. My breakfast was delicious and ambiance was great. I didn't find anything dingy or disgusting as other reviews have said. I'd be back.

Seems to be an old and famous place. Very crowded with lots of people in queue. Worth it - very delicious strudel.

Had a lovely coffee and apple strudel around 1pm on a Monday. Apple strudel was the best strudel I’ve ever had!
They were very lovely and attentive (especially as someone from Australia/Poland who can’t speak the language).
The outdoor seating and umbrella’s were fantastic, even for a 35 degree day.
Would definitely come back! 🫶
