Cat Ba Sweet Potato Homestay& Restaurant

Having been travelling around SE Asia for the past 5 weeks this is easily the best homestay we’ve been to. Great customer service, English speaking and can book cheap activities through them. Would recommend to everyone

We have been here twice to eat, once for dinner and now breakfast. Food is amazing, and really friendly service too. Would gladly come again.

There are really kind, honest, and helpful hosts.
They help you to organize trips and care about you individually. They recommended us a wonderful trip to a floating house. The meal was excellent, and the smoothies were made from fruits from their own garden.

I stayed at Sweet Potato Homestay during my bicycle trip in Vietnam and I had a great time! The family who runs the place is very friendly and welcoming. It was also super easy to organise a tour for the next day. I would totally recommend it 😊

Sweet potato is very nice homestay. The owners is a fantastic family who take care of you whether you come to stay or eat in their restaurant. If you want to find out why they called Sweet Potato then you must come and find out it. I already know. 💯 recommended

Such a lovely place !! The family host is really warm and welcoming . They are also proficient in English so it was very easy for us to communicate with them. Trang was very helpful in helping us to plan our Cat Ba adventures and she helped us arrange so many things. The trip wouldn't have been so fun if not for her ! The hosts are also very readily available. The homestay is clean & homely. The food served here is also really good . We ended up eating all our meals here . A very versatile cook indeed :) would definitely come back when we visit CatBa again

Lovely little hostel & restaurant ! We stayed here one night on a short trip to Cat Ba Island. The room was spacious and clean. The owner (who is also the cook in the restaurant downstairs) is really sweet and friendly (so is his cheerful little daughter !). Very good communication when we made our booking.

As for the restaurant, we had a pizza which was really, really good - perfect dough and tasteful topping ! For breakfast (included in the room) you have various options and we choose the pho - classic and good as well.

They opened recently which is why they don't have many comments - but do give them a try, you'll be content you did :)

So delighted to find Sweet Potato guesthouse. Room is freshly decorated with the most comfortable bed ever. Very friendly and relaxed place. Breakfast is great and the menu for dinner has been tasty if a little limited for those who don't eat wheat (lots of pizza and pasta).

Great spot. Best pizza I've had since the states! Awesome smoothies and the family here is charming. Before opening the hotel the owner was chef at a 3 star hotel.The wife(?) speaks wonderful English. The beds are standard Vietnam hard, but the hotel is clean.

We just had dinner here tonight and it was lovely! It is one of 2 restaurants in this little stretch and it is definitely worth checking out. They had Vietnamese food, lots of western options, as well as pizza and pasta. We got a pizza and a plate of pasta and both were incredibly tasty. The prices really surprised me as they were very cheap especially considering the high quality of food (large pizza, most expensive pasta and a large water for 200k). Service was prompt and the man that took our order and cooked our food was very kind. I saw him picking fresh veggies from his garden to make our meals! We left him a tip and he even chased us down because he was worried we overpaid. We plan to come here a few more times as we had such a nice meal and experience.

Food was great. I love the fried rice. My colleagues also enjoyed the noodles with beef. Our dessert was super! I ordered mango smoothies. My friends ordered pawpaw and watermelon smoothies. Yummy. I will definitely eat there again anytime I visit Cat Ba.

Really nice family! They were able to coordinate busses, taxis, tours and scooter rentals. Very clean with A/C. Good sea mantis.

Just book one of the menus in the morning or the day before. The food is incredibly fresh, fish is perfectly cooked and plates are amazingly well presented. Both owners are smiling and friendly all the time. Maybe the best restaurant in Cat Ba and for an unbeatable value for money.

We intended to stay at Woodstock but they were full. Luckily we stumbled upon this gem! Double bed private room for $10. Breakfast included. The owner is so sweet and accommodating and the food was surprisingly great. Despite hugely firm beds I sincerely recommend this place!

The staff was very nice and food very good. If you are looking to avoid big party back packer hostel this is the place that you want to be. I will definitely come back. The only things is that is recommended to have your motorbike due it's not close from City center

Great food and wonderful host. Our kids really appreciated the western dishes such as tuna sandwich, pizza and pasta, while we liked the local food. Nice atmosphere and always great people around. Recommended!

We stayed at Sweet Potato Homestay for
Two nights while on Cat Ba and couldn’t have been happier. The family who run the hotel are so kind and great hosts. They are very welcoming to travelers and have great breakfast and a very cute chihuahua. Beautifully located away from the tourist strip, peaceful and can book a Halong Bay tour easily.

The homestay mom was so extremely helpful, made a private boat tour after our wished happen for insanely cheap, helped us with the planning of our next adventures and gave us recommendations and always looked after us. The homestay itself is clean, has a beautiful rooftop and chill area and amazing breakfast of your choice! Thanks again for everything

The location is a little outside the city, so it takes you a while to come there (did it by walk, but wouldn't do again). The owner is really cool and what he cooks is always delicious ! We did not eat anywhere else but in this hostel. Rooms are pretty ok considering the price.

We really enjoyed our three night stay here. The staff was very friendly and the room was cheap, big and clean, AC worked well and the included breakfast (choice between eggs, pancakes or noodle soup with tea or coffee) is tasty. It's nice that it's a bit away from the city. The only downside is the main street in front of the homestay where honking trucks pass once in a while. And their restaurant (which is more or less the only option in the area) is slightly overpriced. But the cheap vegan restaurant Buddha belly can easily be reached by the free bicycles the homestay provides. They also provide good tour advice (the day boat trip with cat ba vision was definitely worth the slightly higher price), bus booking and scooter rental (cheaper if only rented for half a day or the evening). And the best thing: they offer cheap water refills to reduce single use plastic! Yeeeey <3
