Green Homestay

We wanted to stay a little bit outside of town after several nights in Hanoi, so we opted for Green Homestay. This is a delightful space run by delightful humans. The family/staff is very helpful, diligent and accommodating, arranging whatever transport or tours we desired, preparing delicious meals, and attending to all the details. The grounds are absolutely beautiful; like walking in a rose garden. The pool was clean and well-maintained. Plenty of room to lounge and enjoy. The room itself ( we stayed in a hut) was clean and simple, perfect for a good night’s rest. There are scooters to rent to get you to the actual town ( about 15-20 minutes) where tours embark from.
Would recommend to anyone visiting Cat Ba!

We booked here because we wanted somewhere easy outside of town. It was perfect. The bungalows were kept to a very high standard, very clean and spacious each with a small decking area looking out on to the pool. The owner has plenty of moped which are available to take to explore the island. The breakfast and dinner is delicious and service is quick. There is a great family feel amongst the owners family and a fun community feel for guests wanting to mingle. It was very peaceful and we enjoyed the dog and two cats that live on the property as well. The pool is also a good size! Would really recommend for solo travellers, couples, friends and family !

We loved everything about our week-long stay at Green Homestay. The location was perfect for us to explore the island on a scooter/motorbike (which they have available for rent). It's in a quiet neighborhood on a hill with a view of one of the bays, which is within walking distance — maybe half a kilometer or about 10-minute walk down the hill. The landscaping and grounds are beautiful with an abundance of flowering plants, bougainvillea and jackfruit trees that make the property feel like an eco-resort. The pool is pristine and clean! The staff works tirelessly to keep everything in perfect condition — everyone seemed to be working around the clock.
The included breakfast was very good — with a choice of a beverage (ranging from coffee to smoothies) and a choice of food (ranging from pho to eggs with banh mi to fruit pancakes) and always served with a plate of fresh fruit. We also enjoyed a couple of other meals there and everything we ordered was delicious.
Most of all our host, Mr. Win was everything you could ask for in a great host. He was super-friendly and assisted us with anything we needed from providing suggestions for things to do in Cat Ba to arranging travel for us back to Haiphong.
We would highly recommend Green Homestay and will stay here again next time we come to Cat Ba.

Just right out of Cat Ba town, but a scooter for rent when you want to visit. Nice location and building, clean little bungalow and a garden! Win was super helpful and did a great job running the place!

We enjoyed our stay here a lot. The homestay is very relaxed, rooms are centered around the swimming pool in a well maintained garden with amazing flowers. Room was clean and comfortable. Food, laundry service and motorbike rental were all good, people were super friendly and helpful. Thanks!

Beautiful Homestay!
The owner was so kind and helped with anything that we needed. This is the perfect location outside of the busy area of Cat Ba, but be mindful you will need to be confident on a scooter to get around the island.
The pool area was only a month old and we stayed , and was beautiful. The rooms & food on site were also really good value!

Would definitely recommend staying to anyone traveling to Cat Ba
we stayed in one of the new bungalow rooms. It was cozy and very clean with a small fridge and a hanging rack for clothes.
There is also laundry services onsite which is very helpful!

This place is outside of town about 8km, so you will have to motorbike or taxi in. Short walk to the beach and close to the national park. It is quite and peaceful a great place to relax. The owners are amazing, extremely helpful and kind. Great food as well.

We stayed 2 nights at this beautiful homestay and absolutely loved it. After the business of Hanoi, our stay there was just so calming and relaxing. The room was clean and comfortable. Our favorite was the beautiful garden and the pool! We did an organized day trip to Halong Bay, which our host organized for us and everything worked out very well. The owners (whole family) of the homestay did much more than necessary. They care so much for their guests and are the friendliest people! We felt very welcomed and would recommend Green Homestay for everyone who is looking for a relaxing, authentic and peaceful stay!!

Lovely place to stay in CatBa if you have a motorcycle with you ..Host is good and the food was also great ..Few cats and a dog for good company .. Fabulous value for money

Such a beautiful place in Cat Ba. We really enjoyed our stay here. Our room was perfectly clean, the service was amazing and the whole place is just beautiful with all the flowers, the pool and view. You can rent a scooter to get around or enjoy the delicious pancakes in the homestay. The owner is super friendly and helped us with everything.

Can't recommend this homestay enough!! The location is out of town a bit, so it is the perfect place to come and relax. The rooms are clean, the place is beautiful, food is great. They provide laundry service, motorbike rental, pool etc. The owner and his family are lovely and kind and helped us out a lot with our trip planning and general advice.

This place is a small heaven on earth. We've been travelling for more than 4 month in Asia and this is one of the best homestay we've stayed in.

The rooms are quite big and fully equipped. Bed is big and confortable.
The garden area with the swimming pool is so beautiful : full of flower with a big and clean swimming pool, lights during night time. It's close to the forest so the few noise you'll hear is birds.

Also, the food was very very good. We stayed 3 days and tried several dishes ; everything was good. I especially recommend the beef with garlic and tomato, the fried spring rolls and the banana & chocolate pancake! It was always so good that we never went to eat somewhere else, even if we had a motorcycle one day.

Finally, the owner and his family are very kind and helpfull. They make our stay a perfect moment of calm en enjoyment. As for other homestays, you can have everything there (motorbike, day tour in Hà Long or more, bus,...) and the prices were fair.

It deserves more than 5 stars!

Beautifully located by the mountain with a nice view on the ocean. Quiet and perfect if you want to relax and escape the noise of cat ba town. Owner speaks good English and explained us how to get to the homestay by public transport from cat ba town. Gave us valuable tips on what and how to visit the island. Arranged a bus pickup for us for our departure. Cheap (but pretty old and in bad condition) motorbikes to rent for only 100k. Also helmets were old and didn’t feel safe unfortunately. Good breakfast included with choice of food and 1 or 2 drinks. Nice and clean pool. We chose the “older” and cheaper bungalows and they were just fine with fan and proper A/C. Booked directly via phone / WhatsApp. We would love to come back.

Lovely place which I strongly recommend to anyone looking for a simple and nice place to stay, relax and recharge away from the city and noise.

The place is small but very beautiful, the owner extremely kind, helpful and really lovely. Good English from his side. Unfortunately the other team and family members did not speak that well, so he had to run here and there many times to deal with all request from all his guests. Always with a smile and nothing seems to be too much for him.

The room is simple and exactly what you need, small terrace where you can have dinner or a drink. The pool is well maintained and doesn’t stink of chlorine like most other ones. Barbecue place by the pool, charming lighting by night, very quiet and accommodating.

We felt that having a chat was always very easy with the owner who helped us a few times during our stay. Motorbike rental was cheap (120k /day) and same quality as anywhere on the island.

Only downside were few things:

- Disgusted by the beach, unbelievable amount of rubbish which is so sad to see. We wanted to have a nice walk and ended up not even sitting there. We literally saw fishermen discharging their net and plastic bottles onto the beach :/
- Place is called “Green homestay”, although the garden is green, this is slightly misleading as we expected something sustainable and eco friendly which is not the case and a few things should be improved:
- Don’t change towels everyday, don’t provide plastic sachet toiletries and toothbrushes. Instead place refillable dispensers for shampoo, shower gel and hand soap, and only clean room, change towels, give tooth brush upon request, unless guests are staying longer.
- They have 2 dogs on site and few cats. They are adorable and make the place feel home! The wife however didn’t seem very friendly towards them but rather annoyed by their presence…

Firstly, everyone here makes you feel so welcome from the moment you walk in to your leaving. The space itself is gorgeous with the garden and hammocks to lay out and enjoy the island breeze. The rooms are very spacious, and the food on site was very good and convenient. The hosts can help you with anything you need to plan your stay on island. The homestay is a 15 minute drive from the town center, but that just means that you'll enjoy a quiet and slower-paced visit. Will definitely recommend to anyone coming to Cat Ba!

Lovely host that can help you sort absolutely anything. Great rooms and pool, free breakfast and an expansive lunch and dinner menu. Can hire scooters from the home stay too. Would highly recommend to anyone wanting to stay out of loud cat ba town

Beautiful place in a perfect natural location. You can rent a scooter or motorbike to see the different sights in Cat Ba. The rooms are new and very comfortable and the host is the friendliest and most helpful we have met in Vietnam. The food was diverse and freshly cooked. Would recommend 100%.

The property is at the beginning of the island and it has a very convenient bus stop just 3 min from it by the main road where all buses from Hanoi city are coming and drop you there, now have in mind the as it is at the beginning of the island everything is far from it, when I say far, I mean 15/20min by motorbike or 45 min by walk with up and downs and a long drive road... However, it is an experience as they do provide motorbikes everyday (since I love to drive specially through this type of island, it was not a problem for me as the road is comfy and so nice!). The family who runs it is so nice, the man try his best to accommodate every single request, and his niece is the best any little animal come across to your room (as ofcourse you are in the middle of the mountain......) Call her she will rescue the insect/animal and take it out of your room, do not forget to give the kid a tip!!! The rooms very clean and all necessary the pool could be a bit cleaner but it was okay enough. Big tip; avoid to go there at June as it's Vietnamist holida time and every day are having dinners outside the pool until late and early mornings are a bit chaos with all kids screaming since early. But I am sure from July August which is European session must be amazing in there as it's so so so peaceful! Also, they helped us with the tour to the island (whole day tour with lunch and kayak and snorkeling...) Super enjoyable with the company!!!!

Tranquil and great value Homestay in a lovely location outside Cat Ba. In my opinion better to stay here and enjoy the surroundings rather than stay in the town which is busier and less pleasant. Rooms are modern, clean and there is good communal space and other services available. Huang and his family are awesome too!
