Lan Ha Floating Homestay

Amazing spot. Stayed Feb 14-15 2023. Lucky to get amazing weather and we shared the bay with one other floating home stay and had a very local feel. Shared spaces outside were beautiful to watch the day go by. Room was basic but pending good weather you’re only going to sleep and shower in them. Other room seemed to have better views. Our host had limited English but it is Vietnam after all. He was always there to provide generous portions of great food and help with using kayaks and paddle boards. We kayaked at night 5-10 minutes to see the bioluminescent plankton which was amazing.

Amazing experience to sleep on a floating homestay. We will be back when it is warmer and sunnier. We had the best night there. The food for dinner was so filling and good! A bit unfortunate that the hosts cannot speak English at all, it makes it difficult to communicate, as a result they appeared a bit rough to us.

We had such an amazing time here. Thang and his crew are great hosts that help you with any trips, transfers etc. The house lady is an amazing chef that prepares amazing dishes. The location of the home stay is super peaceful at the edge of the floating city. It’s super to relax outdoor with a beer and watch the scenery. Would definitely come back!

We stayed back in May 2023 at this charminh homestay, we were lucky to be the only guests on that day so we had the whole homestay for us. I can only say that we made great memories there, we enjoyed sitting ans chilling on the deck while admiring the peaceful view. It felt incredible to be there, our wonderful host was kind to prepare us a full dinner with fish provided by the neighbour next door. We woke up early to admire the sunrise. My boyfriend speaks vietnamese so it was nice to talk to the neighbour who came to feed the fishes 😂 Would highly recommend staying there if you want a moment for yourself. You can use the boat to go visit the fishing village although it was hard to navigate for us

Such an amazing time! Thang was a great host and very helpful organising tours and transport. We loved our time there and the food was very nice! Really nice to just take the paddleboards and kayak round the bay, we saw langars just in the next cove!

This homestay is as good as it looks in the pictures (when it's sunny of course). It's a gorgeous property furnished with lots of natural materials giving a very charming feel to the homestay. The co-owner, Trang, was very welcoming, helpful, and a pleasure to chat with during our stay here. The staff, Ha in particular, were also very pleasant and were more than happy to make us food and coffee at any time of the day. Not that we needed it given the generous breakfasts, dinner and fruit provided throughout the day! The general atmosphere was very relaxed.
The housekeeper, Ha, sells cans of beer at the homestay (just keep track of how many you've had) as what seems like a little side business. This wasn't immediately obvious to us when we arrived. We'd recommend buying beers from Ha as this helps her out and are priced roughly the same as what one would buy "on shore".
Paddle boards and rowing boats are free to use. We highly recommend making use of these and paddling over to the other side of the bay. If you're lucky you might get to see the critically endangered Cat Ba Langa money (we were one of the lucky ones!).

You gotta stay here for at least one or two nights if possible.

I spent a night in their hostel on Cat Ba Island too, and it's the same - the friendliest people and best service going.

This homestay easily lands a spot in my top three favorite places I’ve stayed at in Southeast Asia. Not only was I blown away by the incredibly stunning and breathtaking views, I was also extremely impressed by the hospitality of the homestay owners. They were very helpful, friendly, and went out of their way to make sure I was uncomfortable and had nothing but the best experience. They even invited me on a boat ride to go to one of the floating homes on the bay where we got gosh and shrimp for that night’s dinner. It was truly and unforgettable experience. If you’re looking for a place to stay in Ha Long Bay that’s away from all other tourists and noise of the town, this is the place for that for sure!

The owner, Thang, was the most generous host to both of his places, more on that latter. This place was perfect for those who want a interesting “off the beaten path “ experience. We had two amazing hosts helping us with anything we need from organizing taxi boats, cruises and other tours and things to do on the island also cooking breakfast for us every morning including delicious dinners if requested. Kiet was a DJ who was learning how to cook from our other hosts Vinh who spoke perfect English. Kiet is learning English and is doing very well too.
Now on the the other property that Thang recently bought located on the island not far from the harbor. This is a place for all travelers. It includes hostels, private rooms, apartments for those looking for a longer stay, and awesome shipping container bungalow with private deck. Oh did I mention there was a pool!!! We were invited to a private party to celebrate a new beginning for a great place to stay. The place is called “Republic Hostel CatBa” for warning the reviews of this place on google are from previous owners. Maybe Thang will see this and post a link to this place.

We enjoyed our two night stay here very much. This place is good for you that want to both chill and get a taste of how it is to live among fishing villages. Two boats and padleboards available there which were fine to use to get around in the fishing village and check out. We did not find any restaurants or shops in the fishing village, but we managed to find a restaurant kind of place which served us cold beer. That was nice.
We did hike the frog pong to hai viet harbour (hike + bicycle) and got picked up by boat arranged by the homestay. We strongly recommend do this trip and then go to homestay to chill. Be aware that the trip can be hard and take.long time. We would describe us as experienced hikers (used to steep climbs).
Before going out there it is practical to shop in food and drinks. The host also can make you food but that was rather expensive (500 000 dong for two people). We like making food so we made dinner one night and grilled pork.
There is possible to buy food from the "market lady" which is a floating shop on a boat.
We got super good service from host by him buying food and drinks for us from town and bringing to us.

Unique bay rooms. I had 2 nights here, impressed with the room completely made of wood, but bougainvillea and enjoyable even music experience. I will come back here. thank you somuck.

Nice location in Lan Ha Bay

C'est un endroit vraiment atypique ! Un inclassable, une expérience unique.
On a passé un très bon moment.
Le repas était vraiment excellent. La soirée karaoke restera un moment mémorable de notre voyage au Vietnam !
On a fait un tour en kayak. Le bateaux taxi pour arriver à l'hôtel est très ponctuel.
Le coucher de soleil était incroyable. Je recommande !

Wirklich suuuperschön und edel. Reichlich teuer, aber auch sehr intim - maximal sechs Gäste bei zwei Bediensteten, die sich ständig und um alles kümmern: Licht an? Licht aus? Snack? Abendessen heute früher? Bier leer?

Ultimativer Blick und zumeist ultimative Ruhe. Jedoch Obacht: Auch hier (in der Bucht) wird Karaoke geliebt. Insbesondere abends war daher mit Ruhe gar nichts.

Tolle Unterkunft und eine echte Alternative für Menschen, die gerne in der Bucht übernachten, aber keine klassiche Bootstour unternehmen wollen.
