Ralph at Black Oak Guitars was recommended to me by one of my students. The luthier to whom I had gone for the past 20 years had retired and was no longer performing repairs.

From the get go, Ralph was professional, honest, and congenial. Initially, I took two guitars to him. One of them he said was really not worth fixing in consideration of the value of guitar. The second needed a new acoustic pickup. Despite having purchased one, that I had used in the past, I trusted his recommendation to use a different one, and I'm glad I did.

In over 30 years as a professional guitarist, I have had the fortune of finding great luthiers, Ralph included among them. Without hesitation, I recommend him to anyone looking for top-notch guitar repairs at very reasonable prices.

Took my custom Telecaster to Ralph for a full rewire and setup and he did an amazing job! He works quickly and offers great prices. There is no one else that I would trust more with my gear than him. Thank you Ralph for helping me build my new favorite model!

I Love this shop! Ralph gets down to the problem & fixes it. A friend accidentally sat on his U-Bass, busted it into 4 pieces, I collected the parts and took it to Black Oak. Ralph put it back together & it plays as good as ever again. I highly recommend this shop!

Ralph, the owner/luthier, was clear and straightforward in his assessment. His prices are fair and the work was completed quickly. Ralph did an excellent job. I would recommend his shop.

I’ve been going to Ralph for 4 years. Once I heard he was opening his own shop I had to check it out. Guitar center is very expensive. Their Premium set up is around $90. Black Oak can offer everything in the premium set up at the price equivalent to guitar centers standard. I broke my high E string after getting it set up. It was totally on my part. I went straight to bending high notes without letting the strings set in. Anyways, I took it back the next day and Ralph replaced the string at no cost, along with a nice convo. I recommend this shop 10/10

Brought my newly purchased carbon fiber acoustic. Action was a little high. Brought to Ralph to get it set up. He adjusted the truss rod and action is spot on. Asked how much I owed him and he kindly said no charge because he did not have to do a lot. Where can you find service like that nowadays. Ralph is very easy to talk to and explains the process of the set up. A plus Guy.

I took my Standard American Fender Stratocaster to get some work done on it and Ralph left it looking brand new! My Strat hadn't been touched in 20 years and needed some serious work. Got some new custom shop fat 50s pick ups, 5 way switching, volume and tone knobs, re-wired all of the electronics, did a new bridge set up and got some work done on the fretboard. Ralph has years of experience and is an awesome guitar luthier. He is very professional and a pleasant guy to work with. I'll be taking my other guitars to be serviced by him.

Great service ..ralph dialed in my musicman 4 string bass and brought back to specs even better than when i first purchased...also repaired my early 90's takamine 12 string acoustic which came out incredible..fixed a small crack on the body new nut new hardware came back awesome..my go to guy for sure when it comes to guitars great fair prices too!
