Rust General Store

It is a peculiar place. At the end of the store, turn left and you will find a small bookstore full of amazing books for kids and cute souvenirs. I loved it!

When visiting Old Town San Diego, the General store is must visit spot. It brings you back to the 1800's. It has wonderful products that adults & kids will like. I always get some candy there to eat while visiting the other historic sites around Old Town.

Staff was friendly and helpful! They have an amazing selection of loose tea, and will let you taste if you are undecided!
I selected Indian Summer and I love it! I only wish I could purchase this tea online now, it was so good! I do not live in the area and will need to either wait until I make my way down to San Diego again, or find somewhere that will ship it to me. 😀 Will gladly recommend and return!

OMG what a place!!!! It felt like time traveling for a moment and definitely a delicious stop! I got lavender candies and bon bons that were absolutely amazing! I found the bonbons online (company sugar and soda) and not only were they reasonably priced, but they were kind enough to place the order for me. The decor in this store is a good enough reason stop by, but I’m very happy to know I can order online when I’m not in the area. The customer service was amazing. They were very helpful and patient with me. Once I received everything it was in excellent condition. I’m really grateful for such an easy and smooth process. I would absolutely recommend stopping here and I look forward to many future visits!

Good stop for a break and a treat. Stopped in for a root beer for a treat for the little one, and the nice employees let him choose a piece of candy from the shelf for being on good behavior.

So adorable, and such a fantastic little store! Owned by the same company who runs a restaurant down the road. It’s a great place to eat, as well! My family has never been disappointed at either location. Rust is a great place to stop for a lazy bite (not if you are in a hurry) or just run in for some salt water taffy. My kids like to make their own mix. They have fun drinks, and the vibe is perfect, quaint, and homey. Everyone is welcoming and kind. We love both establishments! The homemade breads and pickles are delish!

Such a cool spot! We had green eggs and ham breakfast sandwiches, which was very good and unique looking. Coffee was decent, and staff friendly. A tad slow, but the area out in the back is fantastic for waiting. It would be an amazing place to hold a small event, which it looks like they rent out.

This place is a little slice of magic - I try to stop by now whenever I have a little time before catching the Coaster home. Great to poke around at the old-timey items- it always sparks my imagination. The wild boar chili comes with sour cream and sprinkled with cacao nibs which is a pretty divine pairing. The patio space out back is the perfect spot to enjoy a snack!

Had such an amazing experience!! The staff was so friendly and we got to go on Halloween which was even better. Not to make waves but there was the cutest cashier guy and I believe his name was Alec so, if your name is Alec and you work here and you saw someone in an angel costume on Halloween follow me on ig HAHAHHAA @mela0014

A neat little store. They have tea, spices, and candy in large mason jars. The employees dressed like in the western times.
There's a place to order baked good off to the left. There are seats inside but it's quite cramped.

Great little general store! Very 1800's with a good menu of sandwiches, coffees, teas and good soups! Try the herbed crostini with the French onion or tomato basil. In the summer the prickly pear lemonade is so refreshing but in the winter they have the BEST hot apple cider! Nice little gem hidden in Old Town, just south of Fiesta de Reyes, next to the Johnson House.

Bought a cute vintage style, dollhouse bathtub. I Hope they add more dollhouse items to their store. It would be so awesome!🙂

Their European Drinking Chocolate is worth the trip alone. The old time charm of the store and the variety of specialty products is amazing.

Had the juan forester. The toasted cheese bread it comes on made the sandwich. Super crunchy and cheesy flavored. Definitely would get it again!

Cozy place with lots of loose tea options. They help you make your own blend.

Food was amazing here! And prickly pear lemonade is soooo pretty!

If I described everything that was amazing individually, I'd run out of room, so I'll just say everything was amazing.

Never fails to ring my bell, so I return the favor in kind. The sassafras tea is a must have!
