Matt is the most knowledgeable person around when it comes to sizing hockey skates. He will put you in the right skate with the right fit. If it isn't perfect Matt will get you as close as he can to the perfect fit. If you are having trouble with your skate or are ready for a new pair I highly recommend General Sports.

Matt is hands down the most knowledgeable about sizing hockey skates in the Twin Cities. Do not believe the Bauer computers that other retailers utilize. Trust me, I went to all of them from Rogers to Woodbury. He accurately showed me that I didn't need to size up on skates and gave advice on how to get more life out of my current skates. He also repaired a loose toe cap for next to nothing.

Coming from a parent that knows nothing about hockey. We had a skate fitting with Tory - l learned a great deal today and felt great when I left. I had equipment that was all too big for my child, as a result of my shopping at a big name sports store that was less helpful. After this experience I could see immediately the change in posture. I am very pleased with this experience and sorry that I didn’t start here.

A small business that has its customers and community in mind first. My family purchases referee uniforms and supplies from General Sports. It is so convenient to be able to walk-in, try-on and purchase ref clothing instead of battling online purchasing and returning... THANK YOU to General Sports for being the go to officials uniforms location for years in the metro area!! **The France Ave store closed May 2019, location is now at Braemar Ice Area-store still has all the items officials need to get outfitted AND the store us much nicer, cleaner, and updated.**

This is great stop for official's gear! I make a visit every time I am in the Cities to check out their inventory. I officiate baseball, and this store has everything you need: protective equipment, shirts, jackets, footwear, accessories, hats, pants, and bags. It's like shopping online, except you get to try on everything in-store. Their prices are comparable to online resources as well. They usually have some good deals on clearance items that are out of season or discontinued. I have bought a few of these items for a significant mark down. The staff is friendly and helpful. They do have an online version of their store, although I have not used it.

If you are thinking about getting new skates, schedule a skate fitting on their website and drive any distance to go here. Matt and Tory are incredible and won't settle until your skates fit perfectly. I have ugly feet and skated with pain since I was a teenager, but after working with them my feet finally feel great in skates.

Fantastic experience! Matt was unbelievably knowledgeable. They don’t try to just sell you skates they genuinely fit you/your child’s feet & needs in the skates they’re in or getting the appropriate new ones. Highly recommend them & we’ll be back!

General sports is definitely not the closest hockey store for us to go to, however they always make our experience worth the extra drive! Their staff is so knowledgeable and they never tried to upsell or oversell anything. In fact the last time we were there they suggested stretching our skates instead of selling us a new pair which is the reason we were there! My son is so happy! Thank you! We will be back!!

We stopped by here today after getting the recommendation in a Facebook group to check it out. We had been to several other local hockey stores and couldn't find what we needed. This store had all the things we were looking for and various options to chose from. The staff helped size and answer all the questions we had about all the gear. This place is a bit of a haul from home but we will definitely be going back for our future hockey needs.

Folks at GS counseled me on the best pair of hockey skates to keep up with my 6 yo hockey player and AHA playing husband. My new Bauer’s were extremely uncomfortable out of the box, but after 30 minutes of detailed attention from Jonah baking them to fit to perfection and pounding out the pressure points, they now fit like a glove. So impressed with the talent level, knowledge, and customer service at this GS location. Treated like a VIP; Matt and Jonah were fantastic. Such a great group...thanks so much, Guys!

We went for skates and some direction as adults who never learned. Matt was exceptionally patient and helpful in getting us started. He didn’t try to sell us something that wasn’t right for us (and I found out hockey skates can run you $1k!). We walked out with the right gear and knowledge. Thanks, matt!!

WE DRIVE 4 HOURS TO GET OUR HOCKEY GEAR, BEST STAFF, GREAT SELECTION, BUT MOST OF ALL MATT IS THE SKATE GOD! HE SPENT 2+ HOURS GETTING MY SON FITTED INTO NEW SKATES HE SHOWED HIM ALL OF THE OPTIONS THAT WOULD BE BEST FOR HIM.

They never over sell, they sell you the best fit for your athlete.
I screwed up sizing on a pair of blades the last time I was in and they took them back and got me the correct pair. No questions asked.
