This is the BEST cheese shop in all of NJ. With a wide variety of artisanal cheeses, both domestic and imported, charcuterie, crackers, jams, oils - they have everything you could possibly need to satisfy your gourmet grocery cravings. And everyone who works there is so nice, it can feel overwhelming and they are ready to answer questions and give recommendations or just let you do your own thing. Going here is such a treat. And don't forget to get a grilled cheese!!

I have ventured to Van Hook Cheese & Grocery in Jersey City many times, but once I learned they were opening a new location in Montclair, I couldn't have been more thrilled!

Whether it's empty or busy, you will get great service here. If you have a preference of cheese, wanna try something new, or want to pair it with your wine at home, the friendly staff are there to help! I always have a fun experience here, even if I'm just browsing, but I never go home empty handed! I can rave about the selection all day, too, but you definitely should go and check it out for yourself!

Van Hook had a very wide selection of cheeses and meats available for purchase. The store also had a ton of different options of nuts, spreads and some local Paper Plane coffees. We heard they also made specialty grilled cheeses and decided to try them for lunch and we were not disappointed. They were delicious!

I've visited this store twice now and love how helpful everyone is! I don't know much about charcuterie and the staff is so nice and helpful. Both visits the staff helped me find perfect combinations of meats and cheeses to make my own charcuterie board. Would highly recommend and I will definitely be back!

One of my top 10 best grilled cheeses, I've taken my mother and my sister. This place would be great for someone who likes cheese. Kinda expensive but I mean, cheese is one of those fancy things so that's permissible. The grilled cheese is pretty cheap... considering how filling it is and the options thats usually all I get. One time I bought candles. Those were nice.

Great selection of delicious, fun, and interesting grocery and home items in addition to the amazing cheese and meat selection. Friendly, helpful staff. Enjoyable to just peruse the shelves! Fantastic selection with great staff. I never know exactly what I'm going to get and let the amazing employees guide me to a wonderful cheese board.

Van Hook has a large selection of cheeses in a beautiful setting. Staff is very welcoming, friendly, and knowledgeable. Their descriptions & recommendations are superb. I frequented their Jersey City store often, and happy to see a second location!

I ordered a custom charcuterie board and it was so much better than I expected. Whoever put it together clearly put thought into the the variety of tastes and textures on the platter. Besides the fact that everything on the board was delicious the presentation was stunning as well.

Wow!! Amazing high-end cheese & meat gourmet shop. Also tea, chocolate, and plenty of food-related gifts too. This place would crush it in the coolest Manhattan or Brooklyn neighborhood, and we’ve got it here in Montclair. Staff is fantastic and plenty of parking too.

Worth a weekly stop for the great variety of local and imported cheese alone, not to mention the charcuterie, accompaniments, etc - this shop is almost too good to be true. Was pleased to find Finger Lakes Gold Reserve aged goat cheese from Lively Run as well as baguettes from Le French Dad in town. Montclair finally has a proper cheese shop again.

Best cheese shop in the area and so much more. Caviar, unique spice blends, and all the accompaniments you'll need to put a stand-out charcuterie together.

Carl, Reese, and team are the best. We’re long-time customers of the Jersey City location and have since moved to Montclair. Glad to see Van Hook out here! Salted French butter, Arethusa Farms ice cream, my weekly mortadella and Challerhocker, etc etc. looking forward to the baked goods selection!

Great selection for cheese and cured meat fanatics. Knowledgeable staff. Nice atmosphere. The baguettes are from French Dad and are so amazing. A great addition to the area.

They got pistachio cream here. Better then Nutella, people don’t know yet.

The best cheese shop for it's wide range and high quality cheese. Their European cheese selections are more sophisticated than some of the rennound ones in NYC! So glad it is opened a shop in Montclair as well!!

Staff is super friendly and knowledgeable. Fantastic variety of meats and cheeses with many unique offerings often appearing. Also, a great selection of crackers, dried fruits, nuts and other charcuterie options. They also were a big hit this past holiday with one of their platters (see picture). Also, their freezer has a lot of hard-to-get Jeni's flavors!
