Stepping into this shop feels like you’re in some fictional town from your fav 90s sitcom. It brings you back to simpler times and immediately gives you all the cozy feelings. The owner Mallory Richardson, has been so thoughtful with every aspect of the shop. From outside and in! I love how much they collaborate with other local small businesses and the Mercantile Market they created that has now morphed into Northside Market to celebrate the whole neighborhood! This is the perfect shop to go to when looking for a gift or any item for the home!

I absolutely love this shop and the well-curated selection of home goods by Iowa makers. It's such a warm and welcoming stop every time I visit the historic Highland Park neighborhood. And I never leave empty handed. My favorite product is their refillable candle by local potter First Light Pottery. Watch for restock alerts and be sure to grab one when available. It's one of the best gifts I've given to myself (and to my sister!)

This is the perfect spot to bop into when you are in need of a gift. So many items for all ages. ♡

This is a hidden gem!! They have a great mix of practical items along with fun things, many made locally. The store has a great cozy vibe. If you're interested in sustainably made items, they have tons of plastic free homewares like dish scrubbers, serving utensils, baskets, etc. They even had some shampoo and conditioner bars! I'll definitely be back, that danish dough whisk is calling for me.

I wish I had more time and more money for this place 😭 Super friendly service. The vibe was great! Really enjoyed all the products they had available, so much variety! It smelled amazing the whole time. We looked at cards, bread baskets, books, and candles. Stop in and say hi and shop awhile at this cute little shop. ❤

stopped in for just a shampoo bar and found other things that have been on my list! such a sweet and lovely store, with thoughtful things that would be great for gifts, but also stuff that I just want/need on a regular basis! ie shampoo bars, local ingredients, cool stickers & stationary. the owner was so sweet and welcoming, but also let us shop and look around. 10/10!

This store is absolutely gorgeous. I visited for the first time last weekend and was delighted to find a blanket I had originally been planning to purchase online, but the in-store experience of seeing/feeling it in person (and supporting a local DSM business by buying it in person) made the purchase all the more meaningful. A great shop for making gift purchases…I think there is truly something for everybody here. At the same time, all of the products are carefully curated and make the shop have a cozy and cohesive feel. I can’t wait to come back!

Every visit is charming. It's a quiet little shop and the goods create an experience and vibe you won't find anywhere else. If you're into hygge, or looking for a local "Rose Apothecary" this is the place. If you just want to quietly shop or chat about the neighborhood you can do that too.

I started following Des Moines Mercantile on Instagram because it reminded me of Rose Apothecary from Schitt's Creek. I could not wait to come in person solely based on how gorgeous & cohesive their Instagram feed is.
On your first visit, you'll truly feel the owner's heart walking into the shop. It's cozy, it's comfy, and knowing that it's curated by someone who loves every single item in the shop is so special. Mallory and Rebekah are so warm and invite you in with huge smiles. They're super knowledgeable of the products in the shop and offer so much help to customers.
The shop highlights local goodies and it's so fun to walk through and see a lot of Iowa's best in one place. Every time I walk in, I find more and more and I know for sure that there's something for everyone in the shop. Bringing out of town guests to the Mercantile is one of my favorite things to do. Highly recommend Des Moines Mercantile for browsing and gifting!

Great shop full of locally made and unique home products you can’t find elsewhere. The stock is always changing and rotating. The owner is super friendly as well!

This is for the Victorian-cottagecore girlies. Enjoy shopping with a woven basket instead of plastic, and shop through a collection of artsy, handmade and ethical products. Kitchen, bar, bath, kids, pets, books, skateboards, stickers, home decor. They have beeswax candles, all wooden kitchen equipment, and my favorite is a wood cabin incense kit that smells like a good campfire.

Amazing selection of local homemade and sustainable goods! Kitchen items like utensils, cookbooks/books, and pantry items like tea, coffee, jam, honey, etc. Bath and other house items like t-shirts, towels, blankets, baby items, cleaning supplies, lotions, soaps, candles/inscents, and so much more I'm sure I didn't mention. Lovely little shop!

The DSM Mercantile is like going to an old general store that has been elevated to a high-quality charming homestead, homemade, and bespoke vibes shop. I've found SO MANY holiday gifts here and always find something new and unique you can't find anywhere else in the metro area. Pottery pieces, handmade wooden cutting boards, locally made journals, and soap are my favorite items to pick up for friends and family all year 'round.

Incredibly cute and well curated shop. I love that this sweet shop sources so many items from around Iowa and that the selection is always changing and evolving. I have bought several items and my favorites have been their candles! These handcrafted ceramic vessels filled with house made candles smell incredible. Love that they will also refill them for you for $10. I love the emphasis they put on simplicity, sustainability and livability. So many items to make your home cozy, functional and beautiful. They also have such a great collection of books for all ages. Highly recommend!

I am obsessed with this place! Everything she carries is useful and it makes it easy to shop local for things you actually need. The price points are perfect and nothing is out of reach. I’ve only lived in Iowa for a month, but I have been here twice already! Love the shaving oils and razors for men and they made great gifts for my husband and brother. I also purchased delicious jams, a gorgeous broom, a lovely candlestick holder, a little incense cabin, and more. Can’t wait to see what is in store for the holiday season!

The cornmeal purchased at DM Mercantile is the best flavor I have ever tasted! It made wonderful cornbread! Way better quality than any other I have baked with!

Beautiful shop with wonderfully curated products. This is one of my go-to spots when I’m looking for a gift or want to support a local maker. Des Moines Mercantile is a true gem!

Sure you’re paying a little more, but that’s the point. Local items from small businesses. The shop is well maintained and very cute. Lots of options for all sorts of tastes. We picked up holiday gifts and everyone loved them. I’m a big small, local business supporter and I’m happy to support this shop. They also do cute pop-ups and support local organizations. Doesn’t get better than that!

We noticed this little shop on our way driving through Highland Park and it looked interesting so we stopped to check it out. We were glad we did. She has some interesting, cute and nice stuff there. I bought some local honey and Kathy bought a nice wool blanket. Glad to support a local business especially a new business that started during the Covid 19 pandemic. Hope they do well it’s a nice little shop!! Check it out!!
