Super great locally owned grocery store with a great history. Have everything you need without the overstimulation of large grocery stores. Will definitely be back

Nice neighborhood supermarket as advertised. Manager (I assume it was Nick), was very helpful and friendly.
Visiting from out of the country, so I can’t say anything about the pricing.
A fun experience, even for grocery shopping

This place is a block from my house and I absolutely LOVE it.

1. They stock up on fairly fresh produce and they reasonably priced.
2. They have a pretty large selection of stuff -- ranging from daily essentials like bread, eggs, and milk to more specific things like palm of hearts and three twins ice cream.
3. Most importantly though, the guys who run this store is amazing.
- I always get a greeting when I go in.
- One time I didn't have any cash on me and was just trying to buy a tomato, so I asked them to put it on my credit card. They told me the fee they would charge me for the credit card transaction would be more than the tomato and told me to pay them back the next time. Of course when I offered the next time, they said it was on them. How awesome is that?
- I saw them bring out candy and give it to a baby once!

Great unassuming neighborhood store. Took me a while to walk in after moving here but I’m glad I did. They have all the basics at a great price despite inflation everywhere else. The store employees are really kind and cheerful every day. It’s a gem. Thanks!!

Wonderful neighborhood grocery store with very reasonable price and great selection of product. I can almost always find what I need when I don’t want to have to go to Wholefoods/Safeway that’s 15 min walk away. Really friendly owners - they are the best!

Cute neighborhood grocery store that has much more selection than your average bodega.

Nick's is somewhere between a small grocery store and a large bodega. They stock a variety of high quality items, and a useful selection of fresh produce. I was pleasantly surprised that they had the fancy Strauss yogurt that I like. Good/friendly service as well.

Potatoes, Onions, Tomatoes, bananas, and other green vegetables, the price is much more reasonable than the supermarket nearby. The people working there are friendly and always help me select the best matching products, hearing my needs. Their selected products are amazing. They are traveling worldwide to choose the best price, good taste, and interesting products.

Sweet, delightful, friendly owners. Everything you need, and pricing that is more often than not equal to or less than Safeway, they also have some extra good deals. They have everything gluten free flour, Guitard chocolate and cocoa for baking, a well curated section of fresh produce. Candles, cleaning supplies, booze and beer, flints for lighters, etc.. incredible, generous and kind personal service. And very, very generous with treats for dogs.
Imagine if a corner store, priced like Safeway, had everything you needed, including multiple brands and price points on most items. Then imagine kind owners, eager to please, who will go out of their way to help including ordering something just because you asked.

If you live in the neighborhood, and haven’t found it, go, go as soon as you want anything…. if you live on the other side of town, Nick’s is right off Gough, and can be easy pit stop on your way to 101. Stop and pick up what you realized you forgot. Thank you Charlie and everyone at Nick’s, you are the best! 🙏❤☀

Nick’s is a gem of an institution—a well-stocked, well-priced local grocery store—hard to find these days and deserving of all the praise heaped upon it.

Like other reviewers have mentioned, they’re sized in between a full grocery store and a bodega; and if they don’t have the item you’re seeking, they’re often willing to order it on the next day’s truck.

Treasure this place—and make it your go-to shop in Hayes Valley for groceries and household items.

Wonderful neighborhood grocery store. Very friendly owners. The store is well stocked, even throughout COVID. They don't have a deli or seafood counter or much fresh meat, so not good if that's what you're looking for, but they have a great selection of almost everything else. Highly recommended. Prices are reasonable too

Nick’s not only has the best prices and selections available but the staff (Nick included) is the friendliest I’ve ever met. I was followed by a crazy homeless person into the store and they made sure he left. After checking out, Nick went out into the street and made sure the crazy guy was gone before I headed out. This is the most exceptional service I’ve ever had. Truly recommend Nick’s. I’m never shopping anywhere else.

Best spot in the city, don't want to move cause I can't live without Nick's! Great chats and have all the groceries I need. Lots of vegetarian/vegan friendly grocery items and an ever rotating supply of non-dairy ice cream. True community and great grocery! Thanks Charlie, Louie, and Nick (and Bella)!

Nick's is absolutely amazing. We have been coming here for almost a year now, and we do almost all our grocery shopping here. They have almost everything we need (exceptions include many meats and dairy), and the owners are kind, helpful, and welcoming. We're so happy we discovered them at the beginning of COVID as well - much less crowded than other chain stores, and we love having them close by!

Edit 2022: Wish I could give them more stars, because Nick's (with Charlie and Louie at the helm) is the best. We just moved out of SF, and we wish we could have brought Nick's with us!

This is the best local neighborhood market in Hayes Valley.

I have found the prices to be comparable to the large local supermarket, Safeway, Market Street. Without a car it’s difficult carrying home large volume items like bleach and laundry detergent and so I use my local market as the prices are the same if not a little less

Fresh produce! Every day the items are diverse, fresh, and priced for the neighborhood

They also have a diverse wine and liquor assortment; common household items as this is where I bought my spatula as well as emergency candles, But best of all is the bargain basement “clearance items“ in the back of the store.

Overall friendly family run market going out of their way to make certain every customer is satisfied

I shop here at least once a week for food and necessities. The selection's great, the prices are reasonable (especially for the area), and the people who work here are the nicest.

Nick’s super market is my go-to place for grocery shopping in Hayes Valley. They have an awesome selection of products including a great selection of quality cheese, dry goods, produce, canned goods, kitchen supplies and beverages which are priced better than the closest grocery chains. Nick and his staff are incredibly kind and and friendly; they truly care about their customers. I would not shop anywhere else.

Charlie, Louie and his son Nick who comes to help out the family often.some of the most quality people you'd ever meet..... and they run an awesome little grocery. You can find organic gems, an incredible selection of dry goods, regular, gluten free, rare brands.... very well stocked grocery with new things in regularly. They even have a great discount section!
For many of us living in Hayes Valley, this is more than a grocery store, and no matter who you are, They will always call you by name.
