Merci Beaucoup, Stefan and Company!

Delicious French cuisine! We got the pre fixe menu ($70/pp) and had no regrets! Would recommend for the adventurous eaters who appreciate high quality eats. Flavors had variety and depth, while honoring local in-season produce. Could tell with each bite that the quality of ingredients were some of the best. Wine bottle selection is “pick your own” from the shop next door, which offers a fun, interactive experience.

Highly recommend. Can’t believe we waited this long! Great for a special occasion.

Staff are playful and fun - with that classic French hospitality. Bon Appetit!

A casual French restaurant with seriously good food. Tonight I was with a party and from the starters through salmon, melt-in-your mouth pork loin and chicken surrounded by small potatoes and then a fruit galette and ice cream in a chocolate topped puff pastry, it couldn’t have been better. I was so busy talking and eating I only took a photo at the start. And the acoustics were surprisingly good so we could hear each other.

Just had dinner there with my lover last week or so. The staff including the owner are a riot once you get past the phony Gruff exterior who's the name is Stefan. I don't know if I've got the spelling right, so if you're reading this, S, get over it! Seriously: thanks for letting us in, I mean, genuinely welcomed in. Will be back again soon!

Had a wonderful dinner in this French restaurant tonight. No menus - but trust that the food is great. Stefan, the owner knows what he's doing. Chose the right wine, perfect dishes, amazing profiteroles for dessert. Very simple spot for good food. No fuss, no muss - very real.

Simple, elegant, all about the food and wine. Not about heavy and pretentious. I wonder if our table wasn't too loud. We were having a great time. Well, the staff didn't throw us out!

We had an absolutely fabulous experience! Our food was wonderful and was take out! The lamb was specifically memorable, definitely a wow. We picked up a great bottle of wine from their shop next to the restaurant to pair with our meal, yum! The owners were so lovely as well. We will be making this a regular event!!

Possibly the finest French restaurant in the Bay Area, think of Le Comptoir as what Larkspur's Left Bank was in its glory days, back when it was run by its creator. From the wines to the exquisitely prepared main dishes, everything at Le Comptoir is, for lack of a better word, perfect. The attention to detail is amazing, like salads that are properly dressed--which might seem like a little thing; but it brought me back to my childhood, and how my father used to prepare salads.

The menu changes weekly, which means I might have to wait awhile before the sliced flank steak and the pork tenderloin are once again on offer.

Le Comptoir leaves Left Bank--the county's most well-known French bistro--in the dust. Which is not to say that Left Bank is not a distinguished French eatery, but their reds leave something to be desired, and I've had mixed experiences in 2022 with their main courses.

Value-for-money puts Le Comptoir at the top of my list of SSS-category restaurants in Marin as a whole, and certainly San Rafael. I'll update this review as necessary.

Not many places like this in the Marin that I know of. Simply the best atmosphere with a lot of character. Yogi was a delight, and the root soup was something I have never had before!

Great service. Our server was very friendly, knowledgeable and attentive. I had the pork chop and the pairing with the creamy mustard and tangy cabbage was wonderful. My partner had the duck and that was great as well. After dinner dessert was hazelnut crisp which lived up to its name by being surprisingly crispy. A very satisfying night out. Definitely recommend le comptoir for dinner. We went on a Monday, but I hear that it gets really busy on the weekends so if you want a more relaxed atmosphere you may want to go early in the week.

Fantastic service. Great food. The rotisserie pork ribs are not of this world. I've had many and said "f*** the fork, they deserve some tlc because the chef gave them just that". Great wine selection.

Reserve a table or you're at the community table...or Le Comptoir.

Le comptoir is awesome! We love the food and the service over there. And the side grocery store is perfect to bring some France home with you. The only negative experience we had was the creme brulee, don't get it. It was really dense and not custardy at all. Everything else was great and they took it off the bill so no big deal.

Best new-ish restaurant in San Rafael. Great French bistro classics, steak fritos, rotisserie chicken, steamed mussels and others. It can get pretty noisy when the service gets going, it can be very difficult to carry a conversation, the nice beverage selection and well prepared menu items will most likely still make it worthwhile to people that don't like having to lean into your table mate to avoid yelling.

We loved dining at Le Comptoir. The staff was on point. The owner was charming. He greeted us, even visiting our table during the meal to check-in while he was busy expediting the dishes. The beet salad with creamy blue cheese pieces and a tarragon dressing was superb. The little gems salad plentiful and crisp. My husband loved the Steak Frites au Poivre, I had the melt-in-your-mouth Beef Bourguignon served with the creameist polenta. The portions were a bit uneven, ours were ample but our neighbors' fish entree looked small, and he agreed it was. The owners have created a friendly open restaurant with good service and excellent bistro food. Nice wine list accompanies the menu with many French and California sections to choose from. We were very happy with our experience. San Rafael needed a good restaurant! We will be going back soon!

I've loved dining in at Le Comptoir for a couple years so I shouldn't be surprised that their Take Out option is so delicious! The menu changes and I'm always delighted with the result. Coq au vin, beef stew, lamb shank... all have left me wanting more (even though I'm full). You won't be disappointed (but you need to order dinner before 5:45 and last pick up is at 6:00 during this pandemic.)

We go here about once a month. Usually little to no wait for a table. Owners are extremely friendly. Food is delicious. Menu changes from time to time. Really great place for an fancy yet casual date.
