Greentail’s Seafood Market and Kitchen

Quite an upgrade! I had not visited the Banks since pre-pandemic and this spot was my go-to for fresh seafood. Its still got excellent seafood, but better than that they have top-notch casual take out food (and several small tables if you're not actually taking out). The fish tacos I had were fantastic (just needed the tiniest splash of hot sauce), and the panko swordfish bites with kimchi and plantain chips - wow! Totally worth the visit (and re-visit the next day)! Whoever the chef is working the kitchen, they have an excellent sense of food parings and presentation.

Best fish sandwich I've ever had in my life. That Mexican street spread they have is a game changer, and the Buns are insanely soft and flavorful.

Fried fish basket of the day was so fresh and fried perfectly. This is now our first choice for fish market/casual restaurant when we’re in OBX for sure

Friendly service and amazing food. I got the Fish Tacos with hush puppies and special of the day Mackerel Buritto. Both were fantastic and large portions.

So many good things to say about this place! The people were so friendly and the food was delicious! I got the clam strips and my fiance got the soft shell crab sandwich. We both loved our meals. Seasoning was perfect. Also my fiance has tried a lot of hushpuppies and he said these might be his favorite. I look forward to the next time we visit OBX to come back here and try more of their food!

Great lunch stop! Very small and limited indoor seating but fresh and delicious seafood! Seemed to be a local favorite. Staff were kind and informative.

We got the swordfish special and grouper sandwich special. Everything was fantastic, the sides were phenomenal, fish was fresh… very affordable. Glad we found this place!

Looking for a little lunch after a wine tasting at Santuary Vineyards and found this gem! The food was hot, fresh and very well seasoned. The portion was great and they also have a fresh seafood market as well as to go items to finish at home. Im already planning my next trip back!

It was wonderful! Our food was cooked fresh and came out hot and delicious!! Shrimp and fish were cooked perfect, not overcooked. Delicious hush puppies too, also not overcooked. We will definitely be back! Mmm hmm!! Super friendly service as well. ♡

Best vegetarian collard greens I’ve ever had. Recommended to me by a long time local. I’ll be going back for a quart of the greens once a week. Look forward to trying other menu items.

Bought very fresh salmon and shrimp. We all loved it. Trust me, you will too and they have different kinds of fish as well as coffee and other kinds of food bowls.

We've made about 5-6 visits to Greentail's now and thoroughly enjoyed each time! The food is GREAT!! Fresh local seafood 100% Service has been great each visit. Today we enjoyed the Pan Seared Sword fish sub sandwich with coleslaw. We also enjoyed the Fried Mahi BLT sandwich with Fried brussels side! Super!
Oh yeah, we will be going back soon!!

Even though I live in Raleigh and Wilmington is so nice and far closer than the Outer Banks, I would never even hesitate to make the journey to Nags Head JUST so I can eat at Greentails. Man... This place is the perfect seafood market and kitchen. Everything you see, smell, and touch is fresh off the boat. The owners are super friendly and it seems like they know everybody on the island. Greentails is beloved by the OBX community and beyond. I can never resist the fried Mahi, but they also have some really cool and creative asian fusion options on their menu which are part of what sets them apart from other similar spots. I would honestly recommend asking whats in season and getting whatever they tell you. If you're in the OBX, this is a must stop for lunch. Make sure to check if they're open before you plan your trip!

This place has amazing fresh fish and meal platters. The soft shell sandwich was out of this world! Thanks for such great creations

So good! We were looking for some good seafood and a place to sit outside and Greentail’s more than fit the bill. We got the crab puppies, fried scallops, and fried oysters. The scallops were perfectly cooked even with the batter and the oysters were so plump!

We also got shrimp to go, which we cooked that evening and they were also delicious.

Fresh seafood and very friendly service. This is a MUST stop type of place! Poke is still the best I've had.

This was absolutely delicious! I wish we lived locally to frequent. The best fried shrimp and flounder we’ve ever had, plus great hush puppies, and clam strips. Will look forward to future trips enjoying Greentails 🥰

Great spot in OBX. believe it or not we were having trouble finding somewhere that served fried scallops... This place has some great ones. Golf cart accessible if you cut through dowdy Park and jump over 158. A+
