Hands down one of the best coffees I’ve had! Real artistry in coffee. I liked that they had some unique and creative drinks. For example I ordered the Masala Chai Latte with a shot of expresso. My fried. Ordered the blackstrap molasses latte. Both tasted fabulous!! Also the design and furniture looked really cool. Definitely coming back to this place.

Got a very tasty Cortado. The inside is very nice but there is a very cool indoor courtyard attached to the coffeeshop that is very nice to pull your laptop out in to work. Lots of natural light.

The staff are super friendly, the service is fast, and the coffees are good.

I love coming here for my morning coffee. The baristas are very friendly and fast. The prices are reasonable. Probably the best Americano I've had so far. Their pastry and bagel selection is awesome too. Very clean with a lot of seating if you need to a place to chill or do work.

I used to always go here when I lived nearby. Now I’m a bit farther, and I decided to make the trek out to come back, and I am so so happy I did. The burnt cinnamon mocha is PHENOMENAL. Even better than I remember it. The vibes are great, laid back, the people here (including the clientele!) are all so nice….. one of my top coffee shops in the whole world.

So glad they came back. Im a resident in Oakland, and I would say they have best coffee in this area. Friendly staffs are always a plus. Highly recommend! Absolutely love this place!

Kidding!

The coffee is truly delicious here and I've had the pleasure of trying several different options. The Vanilla Latte, the Lavendar Latte, the Burnt Cinnamon Latte but my favorite is actually the Blackstrap Iced Coffee.

All of the house-made syrups are so much better than the regular stuff, plus they always serve it with a smile.

Add to that the fact that they are a truly genuine business that cares about the rights of all individuals, and you really feel the love oozing out of Modern Coffee!

Coffee was outstanding and the service was too. Great place to catch up on a few emails while enjoying the brew.

The staff are super friendly, the service is fast, and the coffees are good. Oh, and they also have some interesting choices in coffee, and keep it fresh by changing up the menu here and there from time to time. We go there at least 2-3 times a week.

Ps the banana bread is also great

The Kashmiri chai is astonishing! I'm in love. Green tea with cardamon and a delicious spice blend. Sweet, creamy, and transporting.

They make their own lavender syrup, and it’s really nice—not too sweet at all, just a hint of lavender flavor. They have some other interesting drinks that I’d be curious to ask about and to try. They’re still not fully open, they have an outdoor area on the street, sort of like an enclosed patio, and the entrance is closed off and turned into a service window. The chocolate eclair was baked fresh that day, they said, and it was okay, but pretty dense, not crispy and flaky. It was actually better later, after a brief stint in the toaster. The prices are reasonable, I’d say average for the area.

Love finding places with creative, tasty seasonal lattes. If you go with an iced drink I'd recommend asking for an additional shot of espresso. We have had their maple rosemary latte (both iced and hot--prefer it hot), black molasses latte (iced), and their burnt cinnamon latte (iced).

Our favorite so far has been the maple rosemary.

This has become my little neighborhood coffee shop. With ordering right at the door, I can grab coffee on my dog's walks. The owners are so lovely and kind. The coffee is amazing - local coffee always tastes better! Support local Oakland and make a stop at Modern Coffee!

The squad at modern coffee is on their game, every day! They’re friendly, efficient, and they make one hell of a latte. The vibes in the shop are cool and it’s a good spot to chill out or have a meeting. I hit this spot every day and won’t go anywhere else. ☕ ♥

One of the best and most consistent coffee stop in the Bay Area. I visit a lot of coffee shops in SF and Oakland. If I want a consistently great cappuccino with great service, I go to Modern. My wife gets a hot chocolate that is outstanding.

Modern Coffee looks like the vision you have of the perfect 2010s urban coffee shop, with a strong brew to match. While this is a small space, ownership has done their best to maximize seating, giving the shop a cozy, rather than cramped, feel. This space is one of my favorite places to work.

The coffee is strong and flavorful -- perhaps a bit too strong if you're not a regular drinker (according to other reviews) but there isn't much need to comment further on the coffee. It's exactly what you're looking for in the morning.

It's worth noting that Modern Coffee offers a small range of baked goods each day. The food good, although nothing special. Typical coffee shop fare.

This is a great coffee shop to work, or just to get your morning cup of joe. I highly recommend it.

I love Modern Coffee. I've been a customer when they only had one location and now they have 3! They have seasonal syrups, which I love! Lavender for the warmer months, Burnt Cinnamon for the colder months. I love their mochas because they aren't overly sweet. They have a fantastic tea selection and great pastries from local bakeries. A great staff as well!

I love that almost all of them take some time to integrate the honey to the shots and then shake it up. Their espresso quality hasn't been an issue. I don't worry about the cash I am spending since I know it'll be turned into well! Thanks, Modern, for producing this lady's day every day!

They have the best chai ever! I was honestly surprised by how good the chai is. It's my favorite item on the drink menu. Honestly, I recommend skipping the snacks and the "baked goods" they have. They don't make it in house and it's not appealing. Stick to the drinks. This is also a good place to be productive, work remotely or meet a friend. This place has a great vibe and good wifi.
