We went to go check out The Galveston Art Walk. The Proletariat is always open with some form of entertainment. They have a selection of beers, wines, a variety of coffee drinks, tea, etc. It's a great place just to come and hang out.

Review: The Proletariat & Public House: A Sober Haven with a Coffee Twist

As a seven-year sober individual, finding a place that caters to a variety of tastes can be challenging. However, The Proletariat & Public House in Galveston has managed to create a unique and inviting space that appeals to both those seeking a vibrant social scene and those who prefer to enjoy a caffeine fix.

One of the standout features of The Proletariat is their exceptional coffee selection. Despite the presence of wine, champagne, and other alcoholic beverages, their dedication to crafting exquisite coffees is evident. Whether you're a fan of a classic espresso or prefer a specialty brew, their coffee shines with its rich flavors and expert preparation. It's refreshing to find a place that recognizes the value of a well-crafted cup of joe, even in an environment that offers other tempting libations.

The interior of The Proletariat is a sight to behold. With its sophisticated ambiance, it manages to strike a delicate balance between a coffeehouse and a bar. The attention to detail in the design creates an atmosphere that feels welcoming and comfortable, regardless of your beverage preference. For someone like me, who appreciates a tastefully designed space, The Proletariat's interior is a treat for the eyes.

What sets The Proletariat apart is its diverse range of events throughout the week. From game nights to poetry nights, there's always something happening to keep patrons entertained. The inclusion of live bands playing outside on the sidewalk adds an extra layer of liveliness to the atmosphere. It's a testament to the establishment's commitment to fostering a sense of community and providing a space for people to come together.

Depending on the time of day, you'll find a diverse crowd at The Proletariat. Students can be seen huddled around tables, laptops plugged into outlets conveniently placed in the middle. Some patrons are content with people-watching, while others dress up to enjoy the bar area. It's this eclectic mix of individuals that truly embodies the charm of Galveston, and The Proletariat manages to capture that essence perfectly.

One notable aspect of The Proletariat is its extended operating hours. With the establishment open until midnight, it ensures that people can enjoy their favorite beverages and events well into the night. This flexibility is a welcome feature for those who want to relax and unwind after a long day or for those seeking a late-night social gathering spot.

In conclusion, The Proletariat & Public House is a gem in Galveston, especially for individuals who appreciate a vibrant yet sober environment. Its dedication to exceptional coffee, combined with a well-designed interior and a diverse range of events, creates a space that appeals to a wide range of tastes. Whether you're a coffee lover, a poetry enthusiast, or simply enjoy the energy of a lively bar scene, The Proletariat is a must-visit destination.

The Proletariat is a fantastic gallery and bar! The coffee is also great, and you can have excellent food delivered from next door. The gallery showcases the best local talent, and visiting during ArtWalk was a treat!

Great spot. It's useful in so many ways. The wonderful mix of coffee and alcoholic beverages that make it perfect to visit mid-day or late at night. Close enough to shops and such to be a welcome break spot during a day out, or a relatively relaxed place for wrap-up-the-evening drinks. Board game selection is a good variety (try dixit!) and the bartenders are chill. And the coffee is quality stuff. Had my first undertow here, and I dream of visiting again and having another.

I love grabbing a cold beer here whenever I am in Galveston. The beers are mostly from local breweries and change fairly often. It's a nice way to try new ones. Very impressive selection of board and card games, and there were several families taking advantage of them.

Really great stop before dinner on our way through Galveston. Enjoyed a hibiscus sangria- SO delicious. I'm not normally a huge sangria fan, some tend to be too sweet. We also had a hibiscus prosecco which was great as well. They had a full coffee bar that we didn't get anything from, but everything they were making looked wonderful. Our bartender/server was super friendly and helpful.

Great feel to this place. Very welcoming & relaxed. The Proletariat is located off the Strand. And that's a good thing.
It's calmer in here. You don't feel as rushed.

Great selection of beers, wine & they have an espresso machine.
The music & art is a great touch.

A true neighborhood bar with a great vibe. Our bartender was hilariously friendly and professional and whipped us up some amazing drinks. PRO TIP: Get the candied hibiscus with sake, trust me. It's called Spooky Hibiscus.

I spent the week in Galveston and worked at The Proletariat for four afternoons. Their espresso and drip coffees were all great. They have like twenty beers on draft and it was awesome to drink coffees then switch to beer at happy hour. They will ring you up for the deli next door and the food will be delivered to your table.

Enjoyed a refreshing beverage and slice of pizza here. Bartender was very friendly and the atmosphere was nice. Not like a typical dark bar but instead a well lit space perfect for a pit stop.

Cool, relaxed vibe. Many trivia and board games to play. Great hot chai latte. We tried a CBD beverage which was supposed to make you relaxed. Jury still out on that. I hated the taste, but hubby enjoyed it. Nice atmosphere with artwork and exposed brick. Great place to chill with a beverage.

Best coffee shop on the island! I recommend the Big Toe, a lavender vanilla cold brew, or the hibiscus iced tea.

They have a great selection of coffee beverages, teas, wine and beer. They also serve some good pizza from Mario’s and THE BEST sandwiches from the Old Moon Deli next door.

Vibes are emasculate

I love this place!!! They have a beer/wine cocktail drink menu, coffee, and snacks so there’s a little something for everyone. My favorite drink is their Sake Bloody Mary. It’s also pet friendly for pet lovers. They always have art made by local artists hanging on the walls for purchase too. Great place to be!
