Haskell Cultural Center and Museum

A recently reopened great museum on Haskell University's campus. Though they are still updating the museum you will always be able to find the story of the beginnings of Haskell as a boarding school to when it becomes a full fledged university. Admission is free and it is presently open during the week. A must see if you live there or are passing through.

This cultural center does an amazing job of examining the complex story of a school that originally existed to assimilate Indians into mainstream white culture and now helps Indian students to find their own voices. Heavy focus is on pre-1926 history and military contributions. Give yourself time; there is a lot of reading.

I have visited twice and more visits are inevitable. Not only is it historical but contemporary and forward looking. This space inspires and instills reverence for the indigenous ways.
