The curries, pakoras, and naan were excellent, and our daughter who's a fussy eater loved their rice, kashmiri naan, and aloo tikki. Our vegetable masala and shrimp masala were delicious. It was odd that the very spicy was very spicy and the medium spicy wasn't spicy at all. The service was a little slow but very kind and friendly. We look forward to returning!

Food was delicious! And service was great. I especially loved the onion Naan and lamb. This was our 2nd time here and it was just as good as the first so I feel comfortable saying the food is consistently excellent 👌

Unbelievable food and service!
We sat at the bar and enjoyed an appetizer, several Naan breads and a meal each.
Wonderful experience
Would highly suggest to anyone and we can’t wait to return for more

I have been patronizing the Jewel in the Crown for as long as I've lived in Newburyport - going on 8 years now.

I wanted to share a story that isn't about the quality of the food, which is exemplary, but more about the quality of their customer service.

I recently placed an order for delivery that, for one reason or another, got very jumbled by DoorDash. I contacted the restaurant and spoke with the gentlemen who I believe owns the restaurant. He offered to call DoorDash to figure out what happened but also explained that it's not his delivery service so it is tough for him to take ownership over the mixup.

I completely understood - just wanted him to know that my food was delivered somewhere two towns away and the driver had been unresponsive.

Not only did the owner call me right back and offer to get another order going, free of charge, which we greatly appreciated. But he also hand delivered it to my doorstep himself. Which was beyond unnecessary but so greatly appreciated.

Tough to find this type of commitment to customer service in this day and age. Glad to see there are still a handful of business committed to going above and beyond.

Thank you!!

Butter chicken and garlic naan bread were amazing. The sauce on the butter chicken is just incredible. I got take out, and the man who gave me my order had a big smile on his face! Very good experience, would definitely order from here again.

Nice attentive servers and great food at a good price. Got free papadums as an appetizer. The lamb Korma was really good with plenty of tender lean meat and a tasty sauce. What more could you want?

Excellent food, clean and safe pickup during COVID19 pandemic. Don’t miss the Panir Tikka Masala - SO good. Thanks for the wonderfully delicious takeout! We can’t wait to come back.

Great food and service! My friends and I were seated in the sun room. We stopped by for dinner just as the sun was setting. I had the vegetable biryani and garlic naan. The portions were great, had leftovers which is always a plus when you have good food :D

Every bite was followed with a "WOW". Possibly the best Indian dinner I've ever eaten. My new favorite restaurant!

The food is amazing, the service is outstanding, and the staff is warm and accommodating. We hosted a party of around 30 people there last night, and we couldn’t have been happier.
The food all came out together, everything tasted AMAZING as always, and the staff was incredibly attentive to requests for drinks and met all needs. I highly recommend this place.
This restaurant is amazing for family style outings along with quieter dates nights. It is also very kid friendly yet still has a full bar for the adults to spice up the night.

Delicious food! Vegetarian and meat options. I enjoyed the sampler appetizer platter so I could try some new things. Great service, too! Would highly recommend!

Lovely atmosphere and lovely people. We went on a very slow day (only one couple in the restaurant). They had a whole vegetarian section which was lovely. The food was absolutely delicious and we had no problems with our order. We sat under the glass roofed room where you can look at all the lovely brick buildings around you. Not a particularly fancy place, but a fun part of a cozy restaurant.

I just love this place. My go to for Indian food. The service is excellent. The Kashmire naan…out off this world.

As an early birthday treat my daughters took me out for Indian food last night. We went to Jewel In The Crown in Newburyport and I must say it was some of the best Indian food I’ve ever eaten in my life! Everything was so fresh, well seasoned and perfectly cooked. They have hands down the best chicken kabob I’ve ever tasted. Very flavorful, tender and not the least bit dry.

I’ll list everything we ate below;

-Muligatawny- rich flavorful broth, lots of spices throughout, perfect amount of salt. Excellent

-Crown Mixed Appetizers: Vegetable pakora, vegetable samosa, aloo tikki, cheese pakora, chicken pakora, meat samosa chicken kabob and fish pakora-everything was hot, crispy and well seasoned. I especially liked the samosa dough.. it was light and flakey

- chicken bhuna: Boneless chicken pan roasted with  onions, tomatoes, peppers with spices: chicken was perfectly cooked, nice amount of spice and heat (I got medium level) vegetables cooked crisp tender. Yum all around!
- Lamb korma: Lamb curry cooked in creamy sauce enriched with cashews and raisins. This might have been my favorite dish of the night (tough to pick tho!) the lamb was tender and the sauce was amazing! I’ve had korma from many other Indian restaurants but this is the best one I’ve ever tasted by far. I could have eaten just the sauce itself by the spoonful! So flavorful, little bit of heat (medium level again).. perfection.
- Coconut basil shrimp: this was on the specials menu, it’s shrimp cooked in a Coconut basil sauce. This was my daughters’ favorite dish of the night! We were told by a staff member that it’s actually one of their most popular dishes lately. I can certainly see why! Delicious sauce.. rich, creamy with a wonderful depth of flavor from all the spices used.. good amount of huge shrimp too. They don’t skimp here on portions or quality that’s for sure!

We also got garlic naan and onion naan with our meals. It was good.. not great tho. I liked it, but for me it was a touch dry and could have used a bit of salt. But in general still very tasty!

The staff was very friendly and attentive. The restaurant was clean and well kept and is in a gorgeous old brick building. The prices were extremely reasonable too. We got a big appetizer, 3 meals and 2 full orders of naan and the total (including tax) only came to 88 dollars!

All in all a great meal/experience. If you want some really delicious Indian food, then I highly recommend giving this place a try! 😊

Best Indian food I've had anywhere in the area. My family loves this place.

Everything is good but if you're looking for a couple of dishes to try I would highly recommend the Coconut Chicken or the Butter Chicken.

Now that I live on the opposite side of the country I haven't eaten here in years, but I am always CHASING how amazing this food was. Restaurant after restaurant never compares and I'm repeatedly left dissatisfied that it's not *just right*. Jewel in The Crown solidly owns the top spot of most delicious Indian food I've had and I miss my regular meals here. If you're in Newburyport (or anywhere within reasonable driving distance), please try it!

Always amazing. My current fav is the basil coconut chicken, and you can never go wrong with naan. I do wish theyd bring the coconut soup back.

Food and service where excellent. The food was full of flavor and the portions where good. The meat semososas came with chutney and 2 different sauces that tasted amazing. The next time I'm in Newburyport I'll be back for sure.
