The Grog Restaurant

Liked my time here! Even though we sat at the bar and the entire place was super crowded, the service was pretty efficient. The cocktails were made in front of our eyes and were very tasty and definitely not watered down like in some other places (we took Irish coffees). The lobster rangoons were also pretty good!

Very impressed with EVERYTHING! The restaurant has a very nice atmosphere of old American bar/restaurant. The food was 10/10 with super reasonable prices. Fresh oysters with best price in town. Service was great. Everyone just so nice and friendly.

So pleasantly surprised by this food experience. Started with fried pickles that were perfectly fried to a thin golden crisp with a spicy mayo. They were abundant in quantity and super enjoyable.

Hubby had a Reuben, which is a go-to for him, and it was a good meat to sauerkraut ratio, not overly greasy or fatty. Came with crispy golden steak fries. He gave it an A for taste and value.

MIL enjoyed a chicken burrito that was the size of her head. It was jam-packed with chicken and beans and smothered in salsas and sour cream. It was a lot of food in a hearty delivery. She loved it but did leave some of it untouched at the end of her meal due to its sheer size.

I had a classic club, triple layer turkey, and bacon in perfectly sized sections. I opted for ranch over mayo, and it was a great sandwich. Everything tasted fresh, and I also got the crispy fries. They were the way I like them - not oily and crispy golden steak style.

Overall, we were super pleased with our stop into the Grog. We had kind and attentive service by Melissa and left full and happy.

Such a cozy little American restaurant with a vintage, nostalgic feel. The staff was friendly and genuine, but the reason I’m writing is the food!! I’m constantly in Newburyport and for some reason this place was always pushed toward the end of the list to visit. I wish I had visited sooner now!! Our burger was so so SO good; cooked perfectly medium rare and the fries were delicious as well. The flavors on the burger (candied bacon and Brie) were unreal. Can’t wait to go back now and hopefully enjoy it just as much. :)

I'm here once a month with my grandmom; it's her favorite. Staff is always pleasant and helpful. There's usually a short wait, but that's because we tend to go early afternoon on Sundays, so, as to be expected; and it's almost always much less wait time than is estimated (there's also self-seating at the bar to wait or stay at, if there's space).
Menu has a nice variety; I personally love the scallops, steak tips, and their (ridiculously large) burrito...
I don't drink, but they have a robust beer menu with lots of local brewers showcased - Grandmom really enjoys the Gunner's Daughter. 😄
They also have some fun events here and there, like live music, and an upcoming comedy for shelter pups charity night, and such.
Overall, friendly, warm, neighbourhood pub.

Good choice of beers, seasonal and local ! About the food menu, from Appetizers, to salad, with good variety of fish, meat plates, etc - there is for everyone !
Quality of food, it is good, consistent - not the best but you got it verry well served for the price.
I went already 4 times and always happy and feel full after leaving the place.
I recommend this place !

Their 12 oz boneless sirloin is excellent. They use a dry rub of seasonings that is delicious. It comes with a veggie and a potato or a different side. Both my husband and I love steak. We get this every time we come here. This steak is very tender. The Grog is a low key casual dress restaurant in a small laid back kinda hippie-like town close to the Newburyport waterfront where they have many events in the summer months on the pier. We love everything about this town. The cost of two steak dinners without appetizers, with two sodas, before tax was $72.00.

food was superb and delicious. thanks to the chef! you have to try the mussels - you'll regret it if you don't :-)

ordered 1.) mussels for appetizer 2.) haddock stuffed with crab, candied carrots and rice 3.) lamb, asparagus and potatoes.

Love the classic mainstays. Overworked bartender still did a great job, very professional. Met some nice people, great vibe. Too bad no music these days, but that may change. Like everywhere they need more staff but none to be hired

Classic and excellent American dining fare restaurant and bar in the center of Newburyport. I have been going here for a long time (over 10 years) and can assure you this is an excellent place to go to for lunch or dinner. The food is delicious, portions are good sized, and service is very friendly. They have lots of beer on tap too. Overall a tried and tested favorite of mine when in the Newburyport area.

Fabulous restaurant and beautiful environment we had a great time and the food was exquisite. The service was also as good as the food.

Our waitress Laurie was amazing! Food very tasty, and prices/portions reasonable. We will definitely be back!

My favorite restaurant, always! Every birthday, graduation, and anniversary dinner is enjoyed at the Grog. Had dinner Sunday night with my parents, and my steak was perfect. I love my steak truly rare, and it isn’t often that a restaurant nails that temperature and delivers a truly delicious, rare steak. The Grog always does! Fried calamari was perfect as usual.

Wow… Bouillabaisse is delicious! Grog burger is excellent! Key lime is amazing! Fish’n Chips is generous! Catherine our waitress was caring, profesionnal, the best!

A great pub if you’re looking for excellent clam chowder and comfort food. It’s not fancy but it’s a friendly place and reasonably priced. Would definitely go there when in the area.

I loved this place. My food (a delightful butternut squash ravioli with apples and cranberries) was wonderful. My companions enjoyed their meals as well. The ambiance was perfect for me, historic and warm with lots of wood. Our server was very sweet and prompt.

It is an excellent place for great food. I love the ambiance. The service is really good. The prices are competitive. It is a place for everyone.

The Grog is a fantastic family friendly restaurant with a charming and comfortable atmosphere. The food is better than average, the prices are below average, the service is friendly, and overall the value is high. Plus Newburyport is a great place to walk around and enjoy the local stores and outdoor entertainment.

Great service, easier to get seats then nearby Sea Level with more reasonable prices. If you don’t care about a deck view going here for seafood is a much better option

Very cozy with great food and service! One of the best meals I’ve had in a while with a stellar beer selection and reasonable prices. I highly recommend👍🏼
