I recently had the pleasure of dining at Red Coat Tavern in Royal Oak, and it was an absolute delight. From the moment I stepped inside, I felt the warm and welcoming ambiance that this establishment exudes.

I watched a Channel 7 News report on Detroit’s best burgers, and that’s what led me to The Red Coat Tavern. Let me tell you, it did not disappoint! I love Redcoat Tavern. You do not leave hungry. They have delicious burgers, and every time I've had one, it's cooked exactly as I've asked (medium). I love the dim lighting and decor. It's very cozy.

Long wait but had a drink at the bar and so it wasn’t too bad. Ambience is quaint and the red lighting makes for a warm atmosphere. Bartender and waiter were friendly and service was good. Burger was excellent and onion rings were the best I’ve ever had. Beef tips starter wasn’t anything special, but everything else was very good.

This is a great place for filet mignon. The sides are amazing and dessert is great too. The service is always good. I’ve never done dine in, I always do carry out but the people are always friendly. Pictured is a perfectly done rare steak. Thank you.!

After having a burger at Big Boy today for lunch I almost didn't order one at Redcoat, but I was told it was a must so I got The Brasserie. Holy cow am I glad I did. No offense to Big Boy but they weren't even on the same playing field as each other! These burgers have so much flavor and all the ingredients are clearly high quality, including the thick cut bacon.

As an added bonus, they have a killer beer menu. I would love for them to expand their British beer options (being a British tavern and all) but there were so many cool options, choosing was not a problem.

Service was fast & friendly, the restrooms were clean, and everyone at my table had a great meal.

Best burgers in town, I love coming here, they make everything perfectly, every single time. The employees are very nice, and friendly, I'll be coming back again.

Even when they're busy the staff is extremely warm and welcoming. The Bartender is always on point (ask for my a strawberry sidecar with grand maunier. My personal made up drink 😀) and the food is always consistently good

Redcoat Tavern is a longtime favorite. If u want a great burger, Red Coat has the best. Build your own option is available. Many other food and drink options are available. Our server, Stephen, was wonderful. Thanks. Wheelchair accessibility and parking on the side of the restaurant and in the back. The restaurant can be busy, so plan accordingly.

I first went here after finding Redcoat Tavern on a list of “best burgers in the Detroit area” and boy were they right! I’ve been coming back ever since and taking all burger lovers with me. At first glance, I was a little surprised this pIace made the list due to the dark, windowless dining room, but I was quickly greeted by a very friendly hostess. I ordered the Brasserie Burger and added some modifications like truffle Mayo, fresh jalapeños, blackened onions and sautéed mushrooms. I was blown away by the sheer size and could only finish about half. The patty was cooked to perfection and all the accoutrement was also terrific. I love that there are so many customizations, like there are even three types of onions: raw, grilled and blackened. I also ordered the sweet potato fries with truffle fixings, which I’m glad I split because I could only eat about a handful after the giant burger. While I wish there were draft beer options, the bottled beer menu is an entire page and has many global selections. I can’t vouch for anything else in the menu, but the burgers are so good I don’t know why you’d try anything else.

Our friend was raving about how incredible this place was and he was right! Came here for the crazy burgers and we were not disappointed. I ordered the Certified Piedmontese Beef burger which is a leaner alternative to their original burger with less than 2 grams of fat and still full of flavor for $4 more. The atmosphere is dark with red lighting and kinda spooky but I loved it! Our waitress was awesome and the food came out pretty quickly! The shoestring fries are ordered separately and big enough to share between 2-3 people.

Simply, one of the best burger bars around. The food never disappoints.

However, it is a tough seat as it's always jam-packed.

Drinks can also be a bit variable in quality, unless you don't mind stiff pours over taste.

I usually stick to the tap list, which usually has good options.

Here for a work trip at UWM campus for a week in Pontiac. Made our way to this spot for dinner. Atmosphere was perfect with themed lighting seating. Food took a little long but was well worth the wait. Here's a tip, order the Reuben with an egg and bacon top. Also the onion rings were perfect! Our server Laisha was friendly and personable. We will be headed back tomorrow for dinner on our last night. This tavern definitely deserves the 5 star rating.

Update: we did come back and had the best burgers of our lives. Also, special highlight was the desserts. We recommend the bread pudding. Perfect way to end our trip. They also have a great selection of local beers. Will definitely be back on our next visit.

First time here and definitely won't be the last. Everything from the service to the drink was perfect. The prime rib was perfectly cooked and full of flavor. My husband said the burger was great! You know they have a good burger when they are 90% of what's being delivered.

was here at 3:30 on a saturday & the place was packed--normally restaurants are slow at this hour--had their famous huge burgers that were very good--the place is really kept dark but it adds to the ambiance of the place--burgers start at $17--sat at the bar & brent & brian were our cool servers--this place is just north of 13 mile with lots of free parking....

Split a regular burger and a brasserie burger. The regular one was juicy and flavorful. The brassierie was very earthy flavors.

Most amazing food! Friendly and attentive waitress! Impressive beer selection! The inside is pretty worn out. Due to the interior appearance we didn't expect the food to be so amazing. The brassiere burger is probably the best burger I ever had!

The burger, perfectly cooked, juicy and tasty.
The French onion soup, the best I ever had.
And the large beer battered onion rings, comparable to New York Deli in Sterling Heights and Northside New York Deli on 23 mile…excellent!!!

My family has been coming here since the mid 1970's. Every time we come back, we have never been disappointed. I'm always particular in ordering my favorite the Reuben Sandwich and the Clam Chowder. However, don't let that stop you in trying the rest of the menu.
