I wish more places like this existed. Great options for all kinds of food preferences. As a family of four we came on December 26 and it was quite busy, but that did not stop the staff from being truly pleasant. James was THE BEST!

Delicious food, fun menu, and amazing service. I’ve been here so many times and have never been disappointed. They have amazing coffee with all different flavors like tiramisu, snickers, and caramel swirl. All different milk options. They also have vegan shakes, a vegan menu, and have everything labeled at GF or VG on the regular menu, so helpful! A wide variety of pancakes, omelets, tacos, and sandwiches. Everyone in there is so helpful and kind, I recommend!!

I really the atmosphere of Sweet Basil Cafe. The service is fast and very friendly. I read some reviews before going so I did get there at 10am and by 10:30 more than 80% of the restaurant was full. I ordered the wild berry pancakes, absolutely delicious. My friend ordered the tofu scramble and banana pecan pancakes and she really enjoyed her meal. The tofu wasn't really flavorful she mentioned. The home fries are little nuggets of potatoes. They need a sauce or more salt but I liked them.

It’s worth the drive! Delicious breakfast! Gluten free bread, eggs Benedict and side salad were excellent! Shout out to our very sweet server Michelle who was very conscientious, thoughtful, and lovely. Made the entire experience even more enjoyable! Go early they fill up fast! 😃

We had lunch here on a busy Saturday afternoon. We were promptly seated, our order was taken soon afterwards, and our lunch came out promptly. Absolutely excellent service.

The menu is amazing and very extensive. Something for everyone, but way more upscale than a diner. The autumn salad with with a side of ahi tuna was delicious as was the frittata. Portion sizes were generous and prices were reasonable.

Even though the restaurant was crowded, we could easily hear ourselves talk. A very pleasant place for lunch.

Everything was delicious! BYOB so we had mimosas. Friendly staff. They do not take reservations so it's first come first serve but the weight isn't usually very long.

The portions are very small. But filing I enjoyed mine! My significant other felt his portion was very little , he also ordered a side of sausage links for $6 & got three of them ? Toast slices were probably toddler size but other than this….

It was my first time visiting. The food was very good, tasted fresh. I had the wild mushroom, spinach, and goat cheese omelet and pancakes. Their pancakes tasted as if homemade as well rather than a premix.

Absolutely blown away. 😳 My service was amazing despite them being busy and as for taste, there was nothing lacking. I had the chicken, bacon and avocado sandwich and the whiskey R&B pancakes. Prices were definitely affordable. Food portions were large and could have fed two people honestly so I barely touched my plates. But yes, definitely recommend and will be back for more!

The restaurant was full today which is an amazing sign - very courteous staff. We didn’t like our seats since space was too tight and the manager placed us in much better space. Love going to Sweet Basil.

Heard great things about this place, and I was not disappointed. The food was excellent, and the service was exceptional today, 8/21/23. I had a crab cake salad with a fried egg for lunch. Will add it to my brunch list.

The food and menu is incredible. My new favorite spot in New Jersey. The service was impeccable, staff and owner is wonderful. It was our first time here and we ended up getting 4 dishes because everything looked so good! 10/10 recommend. Will definitely be regulars. Thanks for the amazing experience!

While visiting from Tampa with my immediate family, my mom took me and my cousin out for lunch to this lovely little cafe style restaurant in my old hometown, Livingston, New Jersey, in the Northfield Center area of Livingston across the street from the local Shop Rite supermarket.
I was surprised to see that Sweet Basil's has an extensive menu of both standard and eclectic, unusual sandwiches, burgers, salads, and poached egg "Benedict" dishes and various flavored and accented pancake and waffle breakfasts and even a vegan menu! They also have an excellent list of coffee and tea drinks. I had a decaffeinated cappuccino which was exceptional and perfect in my book with a dessert type, steamed, foamy milk top and delicious decaf espresso. For lunch I order from the "Benedicts" section, a delicious, Southwest/ LA inspired (?) shrimp poached eggs dish: chopped shrimp in a corn and cut and sauteed sweet red peppers chipotle type sauce over two poached eggs in a taco type bowl made of a sort of philo dough. An absolutely great meal! My cousin had a chicken wrap plate and my mom, one of the fruit pancake breakfasts.
If you're in the West Essex County New Jersey area and hungry for a very nice lunch, I highly recommend you try Sweet Basil's in Livingston on S. Livingston Avenue just past the Northfield Road intersection across from Livingston Shop Rite.

A favorite of ours to dine at for comfort brunch food. It can get very busy here on Saturday, so be prepared to wait if you arrive around 12:30 - 1:00 pm. The entryway can become congested as well, sometimes we have to wait outside. Parking can also challenging at this time, even with the extra lot in the back. That said, we love the food and staff here and we will keep coming as much as possible.

The food here is always good! Today we had the chicken & waffles, pancakes, summer salad w/ shrimp, eggs, pork sausages, cheesy eggs & the poached pear French toast. & Loved every single bite! Parking is convenient & if the lot is full, you can sneak a parking spot at shop rite across the street. Staff is pleasant & the ambiance is cozy & comfortable

The food is just so amazing. My family and I go here for breakfast even though it’s out of our way. The service and staff is the best. Get there early or risk waiting, because everyone who go there once knows that Sweet Basil is the best.

The vegan menu here is OUTSTANDING. They have a new completely vegan kitchen operating out of their restaurant and a full vegan menu. The owner and the chefs are clearly extremely proud of what they are creating, and I am grateful that they are serving such amazing vegan options! I have tried the vegan lentil soup, vegan chicken quesadilla, vegan buffalo chicken sandwich, and the vegan blueberry pancakes (which I added chocolate chips to) and each thing was better than the next! I highly recommend people try the vegan options here and spread the word about the inclusivity! Can't wait to come back and try the vegan PB&J french toast! The owner also said that if they get enough support with the vegan lunch menu they will be adding a vegan dinner menu as well - so support them!!! :)
