Awesome place to eat with delicious food but as many small restaurants they could use some more help since the bartender is also a waiter every time we've been here.

Food was good. It was fun cooking my own steak on the big grill. Service was great!.

Great ambience and service. The restaurant is famous for its streaks which were cooked to the right point we requested. They also offer the option of grill-your-own which we've done in the past but we decided to go with the option of having the chef grill it for us.

I had house chips as a appetizer little heavy on salt for me but I dont use salt, fried crispy and was very good with ranch.

Ribeye med rare heavier on rare side. Was perfect, just as i ask. As close to perfect as you can get not smothered in seasoning , just a touch for flavor . Which was perfect it was a quality cut of meat , did not need to be disguised

Nice selection at bar, was very accommodating had a special drink request and they nailed it perfectly!!

It was great especially Melissa she was an amazing waitress great food great service great atmosphere especially for someone who doesn’t do cheat meals this is one of the best places in Iowa if you want actual good food

Multiple rooms suit various size groups. We were seated quickly in a quiet area with nice ambiance that included a wallmount fireplace. The service was good even while staff were tending to multiple large groups that were in house for holiday celebrations. Food portions were generous and delicious.

Everyone at the Flame is so friendly and the food is fantastic ! It's a great getaway any night of the week or join the Wednesday night bike rides. Dining at the Flame is like going to your favorite friends house for dinner .. They love having you . Great people who care about their food and guests. It's one of Story county's best kept secrets for 43 years and counting!

Excellent cheeseburgers on Tuesday nights! 5$ can't beat the price.

We stopped here during a track meet. The staff is very friendly. I ordered the ribeye, it was cooked to a perfect medium rare. My wife ordered the New York strip, it was a perfect medium. Waitress kept tabs on us and brought everything quickly, very impressed. Jealous that this small town has such a great restaurant.

My wife had the prime rib, medium. Was absolutely gorgeous. I ordered the filet mignon, it was superb. Lovely place

Excellent restaurant! The Open Flame is a great place for a date night. They have an indoor grill so you can grill your own steak and showoff your skills. They also have a $3 burger special on Tuesday nights. The staff is very friendly and the dining area has been recently renovated and looks great. Highly recommend.

A great out of the way place for a date night. While you can order pre-cooked food, their claim to fame is a self service grill where they kill it and then you grill it. I had the bacon wrapped pork and my wife had the bacon wrapped chicken breast. Both were quite good. It is worth the trip to visit just for the old style small town charm.

I had my best top sirloin steak dinner ever at Open Flame. You pick your cut of meat from cooler and you cook it on grill. Then you cook your Texas toast. Then you can select your own plate full of salad greens and prepared salads from a large salad bar. There is a full bar with a talented bartender. The waitresses are friendly and fast. The dinner was $20.00 so it was very competitively priced. The restaurant was filled with farmers and wives along with a bus load of senior citizens from local assisted living center. The customers loved good food and loud conversations. I love this place.

The prime rib was delicious. The waitress was friendly and efficient. The establishment allowed us to split the 13 oz prime rib and potato, and purchase an extra side salad. The prices were reasonable.

Best steak in Ames area! Prime grade Iowa beef! Amazing thin cut (haystack), handmade onion rings. Fresh, locally grown oyster mushrooms. Or get the Freddy's Special - handmade potato wedges, topped with onion rings, topped with cheddar cheese sauce, yummy 😋. Awesome drinks & great beer list too.

The Open Flame is a great place for dinner. Service is better than good and everyone is really happy to see you. I always have a steak sandwich and baked potato. Tasty and the best restaurant baked potato around.
