This is a little treasure. Four of us got lunch there and it was an excellent experience. The staff are very friendly, attentive and professional. Food was great--we got the fish and chips (Small and Medium sizes )and it was excellent--light and flaky, not oily--and filling. One person got the bangers and mash and it was good too. The atmosphere is great. Great memorable dining experience. Would go back again and again. There's parking onsite.

I had been wanting to come here every time visiting Ames. It’s a small place and there was a 45 minute wait when we came in on a Saturday night. We waited anyway and got sat within 10 minutes. The place is tight and you can feel it is a local spot which is so nice. Their drink list was enormous with tons of options in each category. Lots of local options as well as traditional European options. Food was fantastic, my kids even liked theirs! Our waitress was working a double and seemed rushed at first but after chatting with her for a minute she seemed to relax and she was absolutely fantastic. I can’t wait to come back next time we’re in Ames!

I visited this restaurant on a 2-week road trip, and it was the best food we had for the whole trip. They have lots of options for both hot tea and food. They have British food as well as some Indian options. I ordered a vegetable and cheese pasty, which was very enjoyable. My partner got a salad, and they said that all the vegetables were clearly fresh. After eating, we noticed a vegetable garden nearby.

The atmosphere was super cool. It was a bit loud, but the vibe in there was super awesome.
The servers were very nice and friendly.

Last week, while in Ames we stopped in at the Mucky Duck Pub. We've been there before but it's been some time ago. I had the Vindiloo which was an Indian pork dish with dark curry. The pork was very tender and literally melted in my mouth. I'm familiar with, and love regular curry but never heard of dark currie. It was great, actually awesome, even had a mild spice burn to it, will for sure have that dish again. Pam ordered fish and chips, the fries were particularly good but she felt the fish, was a bit on the oily side.
We finished by sharing an English Sticky Toffee Cake, which was out of this world. Our server was attentive and very helpful to us in describing their many entrees a number of them we were not familiar with.
The Mucky Duck also offers a seemingly endless selection of teas, beers and ales.
This is truly fun place, great atmosphere, excellent servers and all at reasonable prices, a big bang for your buck.
As you can clearly see from my last photo the Mucky Duck in Ames wins my cleaned plate, or rather licked clean plate award.

We make a lot of excuses to go to Ames to visit Mucky Duck. I've never had a bad time there and I don't think I've ever had a repeat beer there either. Their Reuben was one of the best my husband has ever had and their patsy was perfectly British. Definitely going back to try the Tikka masala and maybe finally dip into the massive tea menu

Great pub, we had the shepherds pie and fish and chips both were delicious.
Service was excellent even on a very busy night.
We were on vacation from Canyon, Texas if we're ever in Ames Iowa again we'll definitely stop in for a pint.

A pleasent British styled restaurant. Please try the dessert sticky toffee pudding. However, the price has increased significantly from our previous visits.

came in toward end of the night & started looking over menu, got distracted by drink menu & amazing bar staff & vry soon the kitchen had closed without us realizing, (hr before close after all) but they were so hospitable & got us food anyway; tried the scotch egg & 2 pasties (1 cornish & 1 veggie) with 2 drinks & scones for dessert, was all delicious ... had a lovely chat otw outwith owner marcus, (very interesting story for the bar history as well as his own) ...couldnt have been happier with our choice; a true gem of a spot all the way around, will recommend & return!

A truly charming gem. The service is fast and very friendly. There is a large selection of standard English foods as well as some fun takes on different dishes (their take on poutine is divine). Portions are very generous. I would recommend the bangers and mash and fish'n'chips as those are especially delectable. It is a small place, so I imagine it can get full very quickly. Definitely one of the better places to eat in Ames.

Authentic is the word at the Mucky Duck Pub. Real English meals such as fish n chips or bangers and mash are served up by the real deal English proprietor Marcus and his staff. The restaurant was comfortably full during the Thursday lunch rush. My medium size fish n chips was done to perfection and the chips seasoned just right. Personalized beer steins hang from the ceiling and you may choose from a multitude of real English teas. Real food, real good!

I got the rueben sandwich. It was amazing. It's a small bar and restaurant. It can be loud and overwhelming at times if you're hearing sensitive. Overall great experience and I have a list of menu options to try next time.

This is only the second time we've been there. The owner came up and talked to us. He was wonderful to talk to & extremely nice. The food was great. I love full English breakfasts. Wish we lived closer & wasn't just visiting. I would make Mucky Duck my regular pub.

The fish chowder hit the spot on a cold fall day and I could never make a stop at the Duck without a couple of pints of Magners. Fish and chips were perfect and always beg the question: why isn't malt vinegar on every table in every restaurant that serves fries? Staff are friendly and service is always quick.

Excellent food and service!!! Got the fish n chips and was not disappointed at all! Reminds you of a pub you would find in an Irish ☘ Valley, or somewhere on the coast of Ireland! Can’t wait to go back!
