Saeng Thai House

This was world- altering Thai cuisine for me. I am not at all an expert, and I've always had a hit or miss relationship with Thai food, but this was by far the best Thai I have ever had. I'd even say it was one of the best casual meals I have had in this country. Do not miss this place. I had the Chicken Sate and Special Basil Pad Thai with duck.

The chicken was a wonderfully sweet coconut curry. I am generally one to stay away from peanut sauces but this one was so well balanced that I would put it on just about anything I can think of, including pancakes.

The duck was perfect, and in surprising quantity. The sauce was nicely spicy without hurting, I asked for the upper low end of spice, I believe. I'd go up one or two notches next time but it's always good to start carefully. The best part of this dish were the bites with a basil leaf. Aromatic with a little bite.

Small restaurant, very good food with generous portions, fair prices. Got the Tom yum soup, papaya salad, pad Thai, special pad Thai with basil, and drunken noodles. We customized the level of spiciness for each dish. Everything was excellent, although the pad Thai was on the sweeter side. The inside is nicely decorated and the ambiance was pleasant.

Fantastic food and super friendly staff, while it might be too long for a take out order on a regular Friday night (1 hr). I am still enjoying this Thai restaurant.

I cannot wait to go back to try more of their menu. Being a pretty big fan of Thai food, I've been most places in Portland. Saeng rates at the top. Basil pad Thai was delicious, and the drunken noodles were absolutely perfect.

This place was amazing!! We stayed at The Inn at St. John, just a block away, and were told to check out this restaurant. After a big day of exploring, this was the perfect meal! Staff is so friendly. A lot of people came in for take-out.

I haven't lived in Portland for over 15 years and this place was by far my favorite Thai food. Well 15 years later and they DID NOT disappoint, still just as yummy as I remembered.

Some of the best Thai food I’ve had! We had the fried shrimp, chicken dumplings and teriyaki chicken and all were superb. This is a tiny, unassuming joint with big flavors!

This is the best Thai food in Portland for sure! The portions are huge and the food comes out very fast. The atmosphere is really cozy as well. Definitely try the strawberry bubble tea and fried rice!

An old favorite when I lived in Maine, the food is delicious and fresh! My spicy red curry hit the spot and was a perfect size for a lunch portion.

Best Thai food in the area! Service is always on point, always friendly and smiling. Absolutely the best packaging I’ve ever seen from any restaurant, I’ve never missed or spilled any food from this restaurant. 30 years later and I still see the owner in there prepping fresh vegetables today. It amazes me how she still remembers me after I’ve move away for a few years. Five stars!

One of the best Thai places in Maine. The food is delicious and always fresh. The staff is very friendly. I usually get takeout.. I should mention very good prices as well compared to many other Thai restaurants.

Oftentimes, we order a bunch of dishes from a Thai restaurant only to find that none of them are good. Exact opposite happened here - we ordered just a couple appetizers and entrees and regretted not getting more. Chicken satay was good but peanut sauce was fantastic, so overall it was fantastic. Crispy tofu was okay, with sweet chili dip better, so that was tasty. Panang curry with tofu was out of this world good - good enough to just go back for that. Pad See Ew with tofu had the right flavor but needed more sauce, more noodles and less vegetables - I’m ordering it for those lovely chewy noodles and I’d be happy with it being completely noodles. People at restaurant were very friendly, takeout was packed immaculately, and if parking wasn’t such a headache (one side street closed with construction) we’d have eaten there many more times. Will definitely go back and recommend it highly.

Probably one of the best Thai places I've ever been to. The customer service was attentive and kind and the food was spectacular. Everything is sort of takeout style right now, but it makes it very easy to bring home leftovers.

This was my first experience having Thai cuisine. I wouldn't have wished anything better for my first experience. I ordered a special pad Thai basil with tofu. The quantity and quality were both good. They have a spice levels from 1 to 5. This place cannot serve more than 5-6 ppl in dine in. Please be careful, foods served are hot.

I've always loved it here. This was the first place I ever had Thai food, back in the 90s! They have always been wonderful, and the dining room is beautiful.
