Paper Trail Books

I love this cozy and spacious bookstore. Hail to royal oak for not being a city that acts like poison to bookshops. Great owner who knows his stuff and his selection is great. It feels like those bookshops in the village I’d visit in New York until that area became one big box shopping mall.

A nice bookstore with new and used books. They had a pretty good selection. I saw many books that made me think of my early days as a reader when I was a child and teen. They really had books for everyone.

I love bookstores, especially ones that have new as well as classic and vintage books. It had the atmosphere of a library, warm and welcoming and quiet. They have a huge variety of books for all types, even manga and comic books. I found some children's books from my childhood I didn't think I would ever see again. I look forward to finding more gems here in the future!

One of my all time favorite places to get books from. If you cannot find what you are looking for they will order it for you. The owner is nice and the other staff is kind and helpful. Always a great place to stop and find that next book you didn't know you wanted to read.

I loved this book store!

I went in while there was a man (I’m guessing the owner) playing the piano. Honestly, it was one of the best shopping experiences I’ve ever had. lol

I looked through records and books while soft piano music filled my background. I couldn’t have asked for anything more. The books are very nicely priced and I just love the atmosphere.

The selection is amazing too! I’ll definitely be back soon.

At the time of this review, this is the best bookstore I've visited in the Detroit area so far. John King is excellent and is a fascinating tourist attraction, but Paper Trail is more affordable and better-organized. I walked away with five quality good books for $16. That's hard to beat.

We stopped in here while waiting for a table at Cafe Muse next door. What a great little book shop! Lots of collectible book in very good condition, and a nice selection of bargain everyday reads as well. We picked up some fiction and history on this trip and three books were under $15. The shop is clean and very well organized, and the clerk very friendly. I will definitely come back again. New find for me!

I recently had the opportunity to browse for books here and found this store to have an interesting assortment of used and new books and a pleasant environment. I would come back again.

A nice used bookstore. Moderate sized, not so small to be niche but not so large that you can't find anything. A good selection that is well organized with various neat and clean titles. A good mix of hardcovers and paperbacks in a wide range of sections. Prices seemed fair to low compared to what is typical for used bookstores. In addition to books, they also had a small inventory of new books, comic books, CDs, and records.

It has a pleasant open atmosphere, but I wouldn't describe it as a cozy place to sit and check out the books.

The only downside I have with this place is the parking meters or parking garages. The only used bookstore in the area that comes to mind is that you either must be on foot or pay to park.

I love the selection plus new and used. The staff and owner are always welcoming and helpful too. My teen girls are.always happy with the YA and fantasy available.

The best used bookstore I've been to. Everything is organized in a well mannered fashion and not overwhelming. Employees are friendly and helpful. You could spend a whole day here. Great place for Royal Oak to have.

Great selection, staff, prices, and armosphere. I stopped in here just to see what they have and I wasn't let down. Although it is a used book store, they have many classics that are very reasonable price. It's like if 2nd and Charles but they actually have books your interested in. I also love the music playing in here. It makes a nice cozy atmosphere. I would just recommend yo put more seating.

This is just one of the best bookstores stores. Small-medium size. Has a very good selection, especially in history and science which is very hard to find in a used bookstore. There is even a nautical section. It's got that nice used bookstore thing going on, but without the tripping over things and dust that some has. It would be easy to get around in a wheelchair I think. Proprietor is very nice too.

Really great little book store! The staff is always really friendly. Great selection of a lot of different stuff. And great prices. I'll usually come out of there with something interesting.

Such a wonderful place. So many treasures and reasonably priced. The owner is a sweetheart and I love visiting when the piano guy and his dog are there. A lovely atmosphere all around.

Cute little shop, lots of fun items for house warming gifts or really any kind of gift! The set up is welcoming and colorful! The staff is friendly and the tea that was offered when we walked in was delicious!!
