Crabtree Falls is a great hiking trail. The waterfall views are awesome and the trail is very well maintained.

Checking out some beautiful fall foliage at it's peak! Spectacular sky views! Just a few local spots within The Jefferson National Forest.

Won't be long before the colder weather moves in and The White Tail Bucks know it!

Take care when driving, especially more rural areas. The deer are definitely on the move...

We loved camping here and had a great time! Plenty of things to see and do. Riding bikes, volleyball, playground, hiking, etc. You are camping on the side of the mountain and through some of the trees you can see it! They have about 4 or more Yurts to camp in as well!

The Parkway, Peaks of Otter, Otter Lake, and especially the views are absolutely gorgeous this time of year. Late August, early September are some of best times to be there; the heat of summer is gone, but still warm enough to truly enjoy these areas. Add to that the mountain wildflowers, the abundant wildlife, and the stunning vistas and you have one of the most beautiful parts of the country!

Great place in general. There are many trails to pick from and a nice smattering of facilities. I appreciate how well things are maintained. There is a great parameter trail around the whole of the Fort Valley/Luray section, and lots of individual trails. A priceless local resource!

I decided to mark something off my bucket list which was to cruise the Blue Ridge Parkway and visit The overlooks. If you're coming from the Roanoke Valley area phone Oak Valley area and are looking for just game for just an easy little getaway I would highly recommend Lee recommend cruising the Blue Ridge Parkway especially during the fall months. You will not be disappointed with the array of colors that you are greeted withAnd a sense of adventure withoutHaving to go deep into the mountains or on a hike.

National forests are a great place to visit for hiking, fishing, hunting, and getting away fro. The hustle of normal life. Visit either one of these and leave the worries of normal life behind.

Hit up the trails and found a nice camp spot up in the hills. Some beer cans and bottles at the peak of flagpole Knob, but not bad. Pretty nice spot we stayed at for two nights for continuing our trip

Tons of well marked trails. Pack in, pack out. Dogs welcome.
No restrooms. Privies available near camp/shelter areas.
Bring plenty of water.

The real wilds of Virginia. Easily accessible however on fire roads and some trails. If you bushwack make sure you know what you are doing and watch for snakes! It doesn't hurt to have a map and compass. Don't rely on cell service as it doesn't reach everywhere.

Easy hike along the Appalachian trail following the James River working it way through the Blueridge. Decent parking on the western side of the river on SR-501.

Words can't explain how special these mountains are in the George Washington and Jefferson Forest are to me. They have something for everyone whether you're backpacking, fishing, canoing, kayaking, etc. Not to mention, the Blue Ridge Parkway is also really close. Photo's are of Mount Pleasant, Cole Mountain, and plus the Appalachian Trail goes right through these mountains.
