This campground is easy to get to, clean and the staff are very friendly. We went camping here in a tent for 3 nights. Our site had electricity and free wifi. We are normally deep woods, secluded site campers with no amenities so it was a nice perk to have electricity. It was a bit uncomfortable for us to be so close to the RV'ers (and I mean the nice man in his trailer had his door open and a perfect view of us and our campsite! - That is odd for us!) It is a small campground but relatively quite. Will stay here again if we come back to the area.

We stay in SunBeard's Lodge in Douthat State Park every year. Buckhorn Country Store is our go to place for ice and other items we may have forgotten. We also go out here for ice cream at least one time during the weekend. Very convenient and great service here.

I stayed at the Buckhorne Campground a week ago. I am rating this small, family run campground 5 stars because they have earned it! The owner, a retired school teacher of 39 years is truly a man of character. He truly cares about you having a relaxing time and is not looking to price gouge anyone. The prices have been updated on the website and are now accurate; $30 for non-electric,$40 for standard electric/water,and finally $50 for electric/water/sewer hookups. The facilities within the campground are excellent for a family run campground. They completely renovated the Men's rooms as they previously had negative reviews, they have wifi if needed and it works just fine, and the park is small enough to easily walk through it. They have 39 flavors of Hersey's ice cream and VERY reasonably priced too with a triple scoop in a cup only being $5 at the time I went! The owners daughter runs the restaurant and, once again also priced extremely well. I was able to get 16 wings, and 3 things of blue cheese sauce for right around $10 (try finding that price on bone in wings anywhere else). The items in the camp store are of course slightly higher than Walmart (they still have to make money) but very reasonably priced for a small convenience store. I firmly believe the owner and his daughter (both run this place) are genuine, hard-working, good people and you should give them a shot.

Oh! One final thing I did not discuss, location. The location is probably 1-2 miles from Douthat State Park, just as quite, actually I thought it was quieter due to how small the park is, and you have internet if needed. Also I failed to previously mention all campsites with electric/water have Shentel cable hookups as well! Try finding that somewhere else at this price.

In case you're curious of how the price lines up with Douthat State Park. As a VIRGINIA RESIDENT the state park will run you $35 for electric/water (no sewer, cable, or internet available at campsite) and $25 for tent camping with no hookups available. The prices are only that of a $5 difference for so many more amenities. For the price and even if you do not use all the amenities simply to have them available to you makes this campground well worth the money. I fully plan on making this campground a regular stop on my list of places to camp this year.

Pay 600 dollars for a parking spot and utilities. You would think they would or could allocate some funds for repairs and services. At least five other customers have experienced electrical problems, due to their faulty outlets. I have had to replace surge protectors, plugs, breaker's etc. Every time one of their outlets malfunctioned and had to be replaced. Usually leaving whichever customer without the services they had already payed for. Look at my photos and posts in my profile. Explains the whole situation. Negative terminal on the outlets are melting!

Very lovely people. Friendly and will do what it takes to make your visit enjoyable. They didn't have the spicy wings so the owner brought several different hot sauces from their home to sample. That's special! Unique atmosphere with many different flavors of ice cream and sherbet to top off your visit or just come for a taste. Loved it.

Locally owned by a great family, Mr. Allen was my high school English teacher and he loved his job and students. He never forgets a face! The staff is courteous, the food is great and top it off with delicious ice cream on the cozy front porch!! A must stop on your journey through the beautiful park ahead!!

Came in near closing after finishing up a section of the MABDR. They couldn't have been nicer! Whipped us up a few pizzas, got us some ice, and we grabbed some sodas. Set our tents and grabbed hot showers in a spotless bathhouse. We chatted about the route with the owner and she's really motivated to host riders. Really cool people, great site

I came with plans to spend one night in my tent before the "Agony in the Alleghenys" bike race the following morning. Rain was coming and I was hurrying to get my tent set up before it hit (and it really came down that night). Before I could get my tent set up, Ray drove up and told me that he didn't want me to spend the night in a tent during a tornado warning! He put me up in his rental RV that night at no additional cost. That's what i call great service!
The store and all the facility was very nice. I would certainly recommend them.

Love this place. Every time we go to Douthat State Park we stop here for ice cream. Lots of choices and super friendly service. The camping is good too. My 19 year old daughter and friends stayed. They felt safe and had a fabulous time.

Really quiet and serene RV park! Owners are super nice and try their very best to accommodate customers. Food is good and reasonably priced. Ice cream is the best! Very interesting store with a sitting poet, lots of Appalachian mementoes and fairly well stocked supplies. We stayed 4 nights in our RV and hated to leave but needed to move on. I would definitely stay here again.

Staff is always friendly and they're generous with scoop size! We visit the store at least a couple times during our week-long vacation at Douthat State Park.

The check in was very simple and quick. The workers were very friendly and helpful. The site had everything you could need at a campground. The bathroom was warm and clean. It is close to the highway and to the state park which was worth visiting.
