It was an incredible museum that shares such an important piece of US history and the beginnings of school desegregation. Inspiring and encouraging!

Your chance to step back to a challenging period, in time, for the black community in terms of educational equality. I think the museum content and presentation is wonderful. The museum offers an opportunity to learn about the struggle with photos, displays and videos. There is museum store offering books and other material about that period of time and it's people.
Visit this museum if travaling in the area.
It's a short drive from Lynchburg and Appomattox.
Farmville offers other historical locations such as the High Bridge Trail and the bridge itself.

A very well-done museum that offers a walk through this very specific history that created enormous national change. I learned so much in the 1.5 hours I was there. I had the place to myself on a Tuesday afternoon.

Exceptional experience. Mr. Thompson was extremely knowledgeable and gave a fantastic tour, highlighting many aspects of our shared history that I hadn’t previously known. It’s a lovely museum in a beautiful little town, and I highly recommend it.

Put this on your must see list of Virginia and National history. Not the proudest part of VA history for many perhaps, but one we need to know about. The exhibits are very well done and tell the story of students trying to get what they were promised and winding up being part of something larger. There is triumph and tragedy fairly explained. Absolutely see the film at the beginning and then tour the exhibits. Learn something about the Civil Rights movement you likely did not hear in school.

We're all taught about the suit by Brown vs the Topeka Board of Ed in school but I never realized the role of the students in Farmville and that their suit was rolled into Brown vs. BoE. It's also important to remember the loss of human potential caused by the complete public school closure to avoid integration.

Moving experience. We from the "North" only remember reading about what was going in our country while we where growing up. A must stop while in the area! History in our lifetime bei g made in a little town in central Virginia.

This museum is an incredibly well done snapshot of Virginia before, during, and after the Brown vs Board of Education battle to integrate, and well worth a stop while you're in Farmville.

There's a 15 minute video right at the start that puts you in the school as Barbara Johns staged the student walk out, and a small walkthrough portion explaining what happened in Farmville and Virginia afterward. Take your time to talk with the docent, read the exhibits, and put yourself in the school at that time, and you'll learn a lot.

So much history that I wasn't aware of of. Well presented exhibits, our tour guide was well versed in the history, the people, the politics and geography of that time. Very impactful. More people need to know about this! Very timely as we struggle still today with what equality truly means.

My teenage daughter and I enjoyed this museum and would highly recommend it. It's free to enter and definitely worth a stop if you are in the area. Don't skip the movie at the beginning, since the interviews with former students help the history come alive.

Wonderful! Everyone should visit to learn about Civil Rights history of these brave students who stood their ground for their rights. We are leaving very flush with hope and ideas. Who knew this deep in Confederate Virginia, there could be this spark of Change.

I loved it. We were blessed with an original student and board member. The tour was incredible and informative. The store, grounds and the overall atmosphere was wonderful. The staff were warm and friendly. I highly recommend you visit and enjoy historical facts not shared or taught in our educational system.
