This museum has a superpower, throwing engaging outdoor events. First it was The Featival of the Moon with a massive replica of the moon taking up most of a city block as Indigenous people performed sacred ritual dances. More recently, Fantastic Planet with three enormous inflatable beings and a dance troupe performing in the street at night.
If you ever see an event happening there GO. Do not hesitate. Both these events were free and open to the public. Suitable for all ages. Food trucks, glass blowing on special occasions. Once inside, the galleries are filled with treasures including a slightly creepy doll collection, fantastic glassworks and video games by student designers complete with VR experiences. Your kids will love it and so will your inner child.

Free admission. Free Parking. Open on a Sunday! Great place!! Staff was very welcoming and friendly. Spent about an hour here. Restrooms are clean. Fun art on display.. many beautiful and thought provoking pieces. A lot of glass. There’s a cute book nook upstairs to read and relax..a good number of glass and art books to flip through. Definitely a must see if you’re in Norfolk.

Quaint little art museum, yet rich in art. Quiet so you can enjoy every piece individually and not have to run through any of the exhibitions. Free parking and free admittance. Convenient location to eateries. If you enjoy art, you will absolutely love the Barry Art Museum!!!

I fell in love with the exhibit
Orchids: Attraction and deception! My tour guide was amazing! She knew a lot about the exhibits and the each individual artist and I love the way she explained what was on the mind ofeach artist at the time they made the piece.

Always fun to walk through. The special events are typically worth a visit but can start later in the day.

A great new cultural institution in the heart of Norfolk. While visiting the new Barry Art Museum located at the entrance of Old Dominion University's campus, I found free parking in the bottom of the parking garage adjacent to the museum. Once inside you are greeted by beautiful architecture that showcases a Chihuly chandelier. There are four galleries that showcases primarily glass art but the collection also includes paintings and one gallery is dedicated to antique dolls and automatons. They even have a place to make and post your own drawings. It's a great space to visit!

Incredible exhibits with a focus on glasswork. The glasswork is the star of the show, though there are some wonderful paintings as well. Took me about 2 hours to go through all 4 galleries.

The facility is fairly new so it is in pristine condition. The exhibits were meticulous and engaging. The current subject material (dolls and automatons) were quite interesting, especially for my wife who holds a special place for all things dolls. There was a decent array of exceptional glass art, oil paintings and folk art for all those who appreciate these crafts. The experience was enjoyable and enlightening. The museum admission and parking was free as well.

This is a great little museum! Parking was extremely easy and everyone working there was very friendly and welcoming. I think this is a great asset for Norfolk, that can provide a really wonderful work experience for the college students.
