Asia Chow Mein

I ordered dinner for my son's birthday over the phone for pick up. They won't take credit card number over the phone. You have to pay upon pickup.
The food was made to order. I don't like bean sprouts so I got my Chow Mein without. I paid by credit card at the drive through window. The food was very fresh and hot. The portions were excellent. I would definitely like to eat here again. The dining room is open now, so I'll try eating there next time.

Well THAT was a pleasant surprise. For me, Chinese restaurants have been a hit or miss proposition — generally miss. But Asia Chow Mein hit this one out of the ball park!

Things started out very well — I was warmly greeted right away with a smile, offered water and a menu, and was helpful in helping narrow down the choices in their excessively long menu. Never was I kept waiting and they were quite attentive to my needs.

I had the lunch special Kung Pao Beef with Wonton Soup and an egg roll as an appetizer. EVERYTHING was fresh — not one hint of old, reheated food, or soggy vegetables. All of the vegetables were crisp, flavorful, and freshly prepared. It was real, freshly prepared chicken (it’s sad that I even have to say this in my reviews) and the whole ensemble was simply delightful. The flavors were slightly unique, like they have their own spin on things and were prepared with care.

It’s definitely a place to add to your list of restaurants to hit up. I’ll definitely be back.

My only complaints — and they’re REALLY minor and not worth penalizing them on:
• the Kung Pao sauce was either not thick enough or there was just too much sauce. I use chop sticks and found it a little bit more challenging to eat.
• the menu was overwhelmingly long — I also know it can be very difficult to pair down a menu when you’ve been around as long as they have, but I found myself paralyzed by choice. There might be a way to simplify things and make it easier to decide — especially if your coming in for the first time.

EXCELLENT place. Do yourself and your tastebuds a favor and check out Asia Chow Mein.

Chow mein was excellent and service was awesome! It was great to pull up in the drive through and have a dinner out safely in our car, they even gave us plates and forks. Great food, will definitely make a stop here more often.

Have been eating take out here for twenty years. I love the beef lo mein , beef or chicken chow mein and of course the cheese won tons. I also like how everything heats up so good the next day. The wait is always under ten minutes. For any of you coming here for the first time try the General Sos chicken and you will be hooked on this place. The picture attached is their Beef Chow Mein with three of the Cheese Won Tons. SOO YUMMY!!!

In my opinion it was the BEST Chinese restaurant in the area! Such a GREAT family owned restaurant! Great (not greasy or soggy) food! Some of the best service I have ever received! ASIA CHOW MEIN and the Ng family will truly be missed! Such a big part of the community! Those are some pretty big shoes to fill!

Best oriental food I have ever had. Cried when I found out it is closing in December,2022.
I have been going there when it was located in the strip mall kiddy-corner from where they are now.
2 small tables and 4 chairs.
Carry out mostly.
I am happy for the parents being able to retire, sorry for happy customers.

I have never been disappointed by this place. They are very consistent in serving the classic American Chinese food hot and fresh and has that nice wok flavor. Take out portions are large and ready quick. This shop is small and I have never been served here, but take out never failed me.

*Edit 7/10/20* I bumped it up from 4 to 5 stars because they have been consistent with quality from the get-go to today.

So sad to learn that this treasure will be closing in December of 2022. I am saddened by the loss of another small business. Great egg rolls and fried rice as always! Try and visit if you can before they are gone.

Ordered drove thru to pick up. I along with my whole family has eaten here for years. I now live in Hudson nothing compares.I happend to be in town. So I had to have it. Service and food as always excellent! Thanks Winnie and crew. Hope to see you again soon.

I have been eating there, take out only for the first many years for approximately 40 plus years. The food has always been excellent. I drive 12 miles each way, to either eat in when we could and take out now.

Hands down the best Chinese food in the twin cities! Their lunch specials are delicious and insanely large portions. I usually dine in with my granny, she orders the chow mein lunch special which includes fried rice, egg foo young, and soup. We always end up taking leftovers home. Wonderful memories made at Asia Chow Mein.

Have been going here for years. They have the best fried rice. I want to see the magic pan they use that imparts so much flavor. Their lemon or orange chicken is not just some breaded pieces in sauce but more of a panko fried cutlet sliced up with the sauce on the side and it's also great with or without the sauce. Another thing, they don't skimp on portions. In fact I am not sure how they can get so much food into one of those containers. It's either an optical illusion or just magic.

I’m obsessed with this place! The fried rice is brown & so delicious! I literally go every two weeks because YUM! My current obsession meals are Pan Fried Noodles with chicken and pea pods, the orange chicken and the egg rolls!! Wow wow wow! I would upload a picture but as soon as I get the food I can’t help but dig in lol Columbia Hieghts is lucky to have this gem here!

I've been going to Asia Chow Mein since it was located in a strip mall, when I was a little girl (early/mid-1980's). Moved out to Oregon for a few years, but I was always excited whenever my mom would fly out to MN visiting relatives, because she would *always* bring home a ton of our favorites on the flight back. Stopping by Asia Chow Mein has just become such a tradition in our family - even friends and relatives that live a good distance away will still make the drive out for it. Having tried so many places all over the country, nothing else seems to compare. You won't be disappointed!

I’ve lived in Columbia Heights for 7 years now and my biggest regret was not trying Asia Chow Mein sooner. Ordered the Vegetarian Egg Foo Young, Lo Mein, and friend rice and was not disappointed. This is a great local option for anyone craving Chinese food.

Food is absolutely delicious and well priced! Service is great,friendly staff. I absolutely love the pot stickers,egg rolls,chicken chow mein and the sesame chicken. This is my favorite place to eat in regards to Chinese restaurants,definitely recommend!
