For the past 11 years, I have blogged about cheap recipes and ways to save money on food (IG: @cheaprecipeblog )
With food prices increasing all the time (thanks, inflation!), the number one piece of advice I give people who want to save money on food is to shop at discount grocery stores, like Mike’s.
The deals are amazing here. On my latest trip I found healthy foods like a HUGE bag of organic romaine lettuce for 2/$1. And a pack of pineapple-teriyaki gluten free chicken meatballs for $1.99.
This summer I bought a pack of 200 Cholula hot sauce packets for $2.
My tip for shopping at Mike’s: go in with an open mind, because you may not find every single item on your grocery list - but you will find amazing deals on groceries.

Great great people great prices it's a perfect place to help stretch the budget. Wish they had a store in ham lake! You have to use the produce within a couple days but if your close to one it makes it so much easier to eat healthy foods foods that are nutritional and affordable. So much in this world goes to waste. They should work with daycares and advanced age housing schools and restaurants in the area of these stores to reduce the amount of waste that we are all convicted of..... would provide variety to children and keep price of food budget to educational programs and to pay these hard workers more money 🤑 win win

Let me tell you about this store if you have a large family this store is the best you don't need a large amount of money to come here. Let me say this you get (3) boxes of cereal for $5.00 dollars now where are you going to get that from here at mikes.

I heard about this store from a friend and drove the 22 minutes from my house expecting it to be a one-time trip. No, I will definitely be back! The produce is fresh and lovely and incredibly discounted. I found several things that I've been wanting to try but thought wete too pricey at my normal grocery store--at Mike's they were all affordable! The staff at the store were also friendly and offered excellent customer service.

I’ve been shopping here for almost 20 years. The prices are great, the staff is friendly, and I get quality food that shouldn’t be wasted. Wish there was ok on the east side!

A great place in Columbia heights to get fresh fruits and vegetables.
It can be a hit or a miss but don't give up when there is hardly anything when you go there.

Deep discount on foods that are near or best by their dates!love this place and the other locations too. Red yellow and orange peppers are only $0.79 each. Today is January 10th, 2019. A Thursday. I also bought Oscar Mayer already cooked bacon, best by October 2018. It was only $1. If you wanted the same bacon with a BestBuy of December 2018 it was $1.99. I also got over 2 lb of meatballs, for $3.99. You could buy three bags for $10. I think those have a best by date of November 2018. I do not care about best by dates!

Visited this location upon my grandmothers referral ☺ really cool place with excellent deals !!! Got some interesting goodies since they get different items in!! The associates were very friendly and made it a fun stop !!!

Awesome store. We have been meaning to stop by to check it out and just end up in a rush whenever we're in the area. After this first visit, we will be sure to be back. We decided we are probably going to do our shopping in this area once per month just so we can stop here first. Great prices, cool selection that changes daily, and friendly staff. Can't wait to get back to Mike's!

Great little store, at or near expired fresh and canned/boxed goods. I found salads and strawberries, bananas and cereal. Frozen sausage and pizza, deli meat and kielbasa. Milk too! Cashier Christine was great, been there 8 years! I'll be back lol

My favorite spot for cheap fruits, veggies, and snacks. Of course many items here are past their arbitrary sell-by or use-by dates, but you can usually tell that something is about to turn. I like to get the blueberries when they are $1/pint and throw them in the freezer for muffins or smoothies. Also they have some vegan cheeses and stuff for much cheaper than the bigger stores.

I love this store! I go every day basically just to grab something we need or just a snack. I am beyond grateful for all of the workers there. They are kind, sweet, hilarious, hard working and caring individuals. I'm starting to remember to grab my back pack with some plastic bags in case i grab more than i can carry 😂 I am actually thinking about applying. I used to walk up there when i lived on 45th and Washington, i was 9 or 10 years old. i would always get a case of blueberries! now i go here atleast once a day if not every other day multiple times a day haha. thank you to the staff whom are amazing 😉

Great prices (on an extremely random selection of food items) - if you eat on a budget, this place wins.
