this pioneer location is the best supermarket on the upper west. it’s got the best quality for the best prices. the staff is super friendly and they will help you with anything you need. i HIGHLY RECOMMEND this place. it’s jus fantastic.

Pioneer has an exceptional curated selection of meats, fresh vegetables, milk/eggs/yogurt, oils/spices, and baklava! My husband and I shop at Pioneer exclusively. We've cooked much more because of Pioneer and it has been fun. And I'd like to mention - the staff is kind, efficient, and welcoming to all. Thanks Pioneer!

You get millets and lentils and such fresh vegetables and fruits. I love roasted peanuts in-shell which are sold here .

Nice and clean. A neighborhood fixture for over 40 years. Oh and the best beer selections from around the world. Good selection of fresh vegetables and also hard to find seasonings including hot pepper sauces.Nice selection of breads and cakes, always fresh. Check out the choices for piping hot pepper sauces too.

This place may not look like much from the outside, but their food and produce is top notch, with lots of fresh organic options and no crowds or long lines like at the bigger supermarkets. As a bonus, they have one of the best beer selections on the UWS!

Great market with tons of amazing vegan food

Great supermarket in Manhattan. Adam the manager is always so responsive and the cashiers are always helpful and nice they always help me to bag! They always keep the lines moving really quickly. I shop their sales every week. So much better than the crowd at Fairway

I'm a huge Pioneer fan. We moved into Manhattan from the suburbs recently and I was wondering where I would do all my grocery shopping. I tried Pioneer on Columbus and 74th and now I'm hooked. Their selection and range of products is amazing. They always seem to have exactly what I need and the store is very clean. The meat and fish are first rate and always super fresh. It's well managed and the cashiers are nice. It's a great place to shop.

I live just three blocks away from you and have shopped at Pioneer on Columbus and 74th St. since 1990. I can't remember every having a complaint. You have just about everything I need and I enjoy practising my Spanish in your produce dept. where your employees are "muy simpatico".

Very convenient. Went above and beyond when the pandemic hit the city. They have a huge selection of imported beers. Their meat fish and cheese section is not fantastic, but improving. They recently added a vegan section.

I love this supermarket. It has all the basics plus many interesting exotic ones which we love to try. Fresh veg and fruits are good too. Delivery is quick and friendly. In a box. No wasted plastic here.

I went in here on a whim, because this place looks so cool-- like it's straight out of the 1970s. I was impressed to find that they've actually got a lot of great stuff, including one of the more impressive beer selections in the neighborhood. I found some varieties I have not seen many other places in New York, and lots more bottles I'd never seen before. It's such a trip to visit this old fashioned grocery store, but I was happy to discover that they often have what I need at reasonable prices.

Love having Pioneer in the neighborhood all these (50!) years. Through blackouts, hurricanes and now a pandemic Pioneer Market has never disappointed. The cashiers are friendly and manager very attentive. This is not a glitzy grocery store but is a much appreciated neighborhood locale.

I love this little supermarket. Jam-packed full of products. Air conditioning is always on high, I love the chill in summer.

It's never very crowded. I'm sad about that. I want to make sure they stay in business. So few supermarkets around the city.

Pioneer has been my market for over 25 years. In the past several, the market, always solid, has transformed itself into one of the best, most product diverse market for quality from produce to meat to products from savory to sweet from all around the world (along with America's best). And the beer selection is second to none in New York City.

An amazing store operated and staffed by the most remarkable group of people. We loved the place from the time we first moved to the neighborhood a few years ago but the effort the managers made to stay open and safe during the pandemic cemented the relationship for eternity. The managers work hard to keep up with the neighborhoods ever changing population and its tastes. The prices are fair. They can't be as low on every single item as Amazon or Trader Joes. Remember it is an independent business, not a national or international corporation. Nonetheless: Before and during Passover I noticed the OPPOSITE of price gouging: several essential ingredients, including walnuts and Concord grape juice, were on sale. The men working in the produce section regularly tap me on the shoulder to point me to a more perfect pineapple or bunch of bananas than the pineapple or bananas I've chosen. The women who work the registers are among the most intelligent, the friendliest, and the most good humored -- you can see their smiles right through their masks -- New Yorkers you will ever meet. Pioneer is steadfast. Always there everyday ready when you are. Dedicated staff at every level. Not one day of closing down except for Thanksgiving or?
Thru all the difficult times lately these guys keep chugging on. I made friends with most people working there and they stay cordial and eager to do the necessary.
For what they are and what they do, Five stars is the least I can do for them.

Spectacular selection, fair prices
I can get all groceries, cleaning stuff.
Especially happy with the produce and seafood quality, where my Italian background serves as a high bar to meet.
