American Conservatory Theater Strand Theater

I had a great time revisiting ACT Theater recently after the long pandemic hiatus. We parked nearby and discovered a fantastic cocktail bar up the hill, serving better drinks than the theater itself. We caught the final night of "Wizard of Oz," a vibrant explosion of colors on stage. The theater was buzzing as it coincided with the last day of Pride weekend. We even dressed in matching purple outfits to join the festive spirit.

What surprised us most was the unexpected shower of bubbles cascading from the ceiling during the show. It added a magical touch that made us smile throughout.

After the performance, we satisfied our hunger at a Thai restaurant conveniently located across the street. The flavorful dishes hit the spot and provided a perfect ending to the night.

This visit reminded me why I love live performances. The excitement, joy, and unique moments are incomparable. I'm determined to return to ACT Theater more frequently and immerse myself in its enchanting atmosphere.

I was so happy to go to see and experience The Hippest Trip at this beautiful theater. The seats are purple velvet and as comfortable as theater seats can be. My cousin was in the production, so that made it extra exciting to be in attendance.

Great venue. I was in the last row of orchestra and it had excellent sightlines.

Saw " Poor Yella Rednecks" at this venue. Very nice production. The foyer is really nice and clean the restrooms are clean and the theatre itself is nice. Not a very big house, so from what I could tell, there are no bad seats available in the entire house.

Modern theater auditorium with great sightlines and comfortable seats. Nice theater lobby to hang out. Don't let the mid-market area scare you away. It's only steps away from public transit.

Theater is right across from the Civic Center Bart 7th Street exit. You'll get "high" from all the smoke outside. The theater is lovely. My 1st time there. Small and everyone has a great view. Lobby looks out on the Center and all the humanity. Serves drinks and snacks.

Fantastic venue. There are few better examples of upgraded, modernized space than the Strand Theater. This old theater has gone through many changes. But the latest is the best. This is a modern, comfortable venue for live performing arts. Seats are comfortable, auditorium is ultra modern, and best of all the bathrooms are large and clean. there is a concession stand and coffee shop just inside the front door. The staff including the security guards are friendly and helpful.

We saw a show called Weightless. Every seat in this theater has great views! Small and intimate yet seats a good amount of people. Decent snacks selection and a few beers and wine in the lobby. ALL the staff are amazing and very friendly. Definitely worth a trip.

Definitely a beautiful theater. Modern design, with a great high ceiling. Great staff! Nice, clean, helpful, non-invasive. The seats are great and the equipment seems to work beautifully.
I got to see a GREAT show. 'On Beckett' with Bill Irwin. Really inspiring, fun and got to talk about Beckett. Obviously short. There's so much to talk and see of the work and so little time.
Didn't get to eat in the cafe. But people seemed to enjoy what they were eating and drinking. I would just watch my time because the cafe closed a while before the show and opened once again an hour and a half before the show. I know that's plenty of time before the show but if it's winter, and it's kind of rainy out and you don't know a lot of nearby cafes, look for a nearby option on Google Maps to keep you comfy before the show.

Tall people: there is leg room! I was amazed, I sat down in my seat and there was more than two inches from my knees to the seats ahead of me. Not once during the performance did I bump the seat in front of me trying to shift, or lose circulation in my legs because of some crazy angle I had to be in to fit. It is so rare for me to find a theater with legroom that this is a BIG thing for me.

The seats are comfortable, 90 minute show with no intermission and I was as find when it ended as I was when I sat down. I'm not a huge person but space is an issue and neither my wife or the person to my other side seemed crowded, I know I wasn't. It's a small theater and I suspect there really isn't a bad seat in the house.

I like the shiny but relaxed feel of the place. A doorman to let you in, small cafe with some seats and tables for people to relax before the show. Friendly staff.

I came to this theater because of the show but from now on I'm going to be watching their schedule specifically because I loved the ambiance.

This was a nice little discovery! Went for a small tech conference and found the theater to be quite nice. Now I'm hoping to find a show playing there that I'd like to attend. The entire space is modern and up to date. The theater itself is small enough to feel intimate. Seating is comfortable and seems recently remodeled.

The Strand Theater on Market street in San Francisco, in 2019, is a beautiful renovation of a building and movie theater, originally built in 1917. There is a 283-seat theater all seats have excellent views of the stage. There is a 120-seat event and performance space, and a beautiful high ceiling lobby with a gigantic projection screen and there is a cafe. I enjoy attending plays by A.C.T. here. I also like the quick access to BART and other public transportation.

Beautiful theater and so easy to get to. Great shows, too. Often featuring new works.

The cafe out front is staffed by great people and has a solid selection of quality beverages and small bites.
The theater itself isn't the biggest, but the atmosphere is cozy and energetic, the performance(s) on stage drawing in the audience due to the close proximity of the seats to the stage.

This facility houses two top-notch small theaters, with great sightlines, roomy seats and the quality performances that A.C.T. is known for. The smaller of the two theaters is on the top floor. The larger theater has a raked, 2-tiered main floor as well as a balcony. There's a bar/cafe in the lobby that is open to all. A great venue to see theater!

Large comfortable space, modern, clean. Poor yella rednednecks performance was excellent. The nieghborhood is scarey.

Theater is more vital now than in years, as we emerge from years of relative isolation into a world more dominated by screens than ever.
ACT is among the best theater on the West coast.
